Rebuild Evangelion
So I finally got around to watching Rebuild Evangelion 1.0 to 3.0. I'm a total fantard because I thought "oh this time it'll make more sense!" lol
Rebuild 1.0 was great. Following close to the original series, perfect timing, perfect character building, supreme animation and action.
Rebuild 2.0 was ok. The story is moving along much faster because of the movie nature, so I miss a lot of those funny episodes, I especially miss the battle where shinji and asuka have to sync up! In 2.0 a new eva pilot is introduced - it feels random out of place and they gave her fighting skills that previously only shinji had. So suddenly shinjis awesome teeanage rage wasn't so special anymore. Asuka's character is really just tossed into the mix - the rebuild didn't even bother going into her past or how it effects her as a pilot.
And then we get to the end of 2.0 - waaaayyyy tooooo fast. The rebuild series didn't even bother diving into the relationships between the eva and the angels or to humans for that matter. I was looking forward to the whole AT field-soul relationship.
And then you get to rebuild 3.0! I get that the author wanted to try something different, but it all feels so rushed. Kajis character is pointless instead of adding anything to the plot. Was there any real point to his character in the rebuild except to say - he's a part of the original series? And then there's shinjis classmates - those relationships weren't as nearly developed as they were in the original. Random pilot is still random. And rather then discovering the horrifying truth of shinjis mom - were just told what happens. (show, not tell)
Seele is still as mysterious as ever and why Ikari does what he does is beyond me!
I'm really scared for 4.0! Everyone blames poor shinji but its not like the poor kid could have known that something so horrible could have happened
WHYYY!!

So far, I've only watched 1.0. I thought it was really good as well. I was super excited for these as well as the Berserk movies. Two great series' that could greatly benefit from a face lift. I just haven't got around to watching 2.0 or 3.0 yet, but I plan to watch them soon. I figured certain parts would rushed and I'm still not sure how I feel about all these new things they are adding (characters, plot elements, etc.). I just need to watch 2.0 and 3.0 before I can make a proper assessment.

I keep meaning to watch them but I love the original series and I'm scared they won't be as good.

I liked the original a lot as well, but I hated Shinji with a passion. Its part of the reason I haven't rushed to watch these yet, but I'll definitely get around to it here soon.

I'm rewatching the original series now and loving it! I still recommend rebuild but, there's something really special about the original.
I remember years ago when I first saw EVA shinji annoyed the hell out of me, and I just thought he was an emo whiny baby. But rewatching the original series I don't feel that way about him! I think a lot of it is in the voice acting too. When I first saw the series I was watching dubbed, and his voice was ANNOYING. But now that I'm watching sub, his voice is simply soft (and awesome screaming too!)
The fandom as a whole has given shinji a bad rap *which reminds me of tetsuo*. Which is really sad because I think the point the author is making is going over everyones head. Despite his personality problems shinji still rushes to help others. His personality is summed up in the first episode, where's he's desperate for his father's love, doesn't believe he can pilot, but chooses to pilot anyways because he can't stand the sight of rei getting hurt. It's the same in rebuild, it really all does kinda revolve around him!

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I think Shinji is perfect for the story and situation. I think the character and personality they chose was an excellent choice and his actions are relatively justified. Of course, that doesn't mean I like him at all. I've saw both the dub and the sub of the original. I actually think it is one of the better dubs out there, but I agree that his VA has an annoying voice. I understand Shinji, I still don't like him though :P.
