Any other Starcraft 2 Players on DV?

I've been Playing Starcraft 2 since release, I'm a big fan of Real time Strategy games, any other SC2 players?

What's your Main Race?

What league are you?

Do you have a favorite tournament series to watch/favorite professional player?

Personally I play Zerg, I was just a wee little bronze leaguer at the start, but after a lot of time watching tournaments and hours of practice I was able to fight my way up to Platinum league. It is still a personal life goal of mine to make it into Master league someday. Unfortunately it's unrealistic to strive for Grandmaster unless you are incredibly talented or are Korean ;).

I was diamond zerg/protoss a while back, but don't play much SC2 anymore. LoL is more fun.

I played LoL when it was released then quickly quit when HoN came out, then promptly quit then when Dota2 was released.

Do you plan on taking another shot at SC2 next month when Heart of the Swarm expansion comes out?

Haha I had never considered that exact sound. But the zerg sounds can be pretty disturbing if you pay a lot of attention to them :p

I played SC2 for a few days, but due my anxiety problems, I didn't go too far. Bronze league ended up with day scores of 9-2, but I just get so nervous I can't even queue for the next game. I heard other people have this problem, but for me it's just a nightmare and I ended up uninstalling the game.

I played zerg btw, very big fan of mass roaches and baneling busts builds (although you don't really need specific builds to win at bronze levels :P). And my fav player is probably Stephano, he's amazing :D

I havent played in a long time, but I'm also a fan of zergs! BTW, when will blizzard make a SC MMORPG? So I can be a mutating zerg for life!

Right now I'm playing a lot of NOTD. But before I played SOOO much squadron but stopped playing after he never released ocean builder :(

I had this REALLY bad at first too. I felt so silly. I would sweat profusely and my heart beat really hard.

I bet you watched a lot of pro matches didnt you? That was my problem. I wanted so hard to play like Dong Rae Gu, NesTea, Nerchio, and Stephano SO badly that I forgot that I never even played broodwar and couldnt expect to be anything but the worst:P

After i stopped putting so much pressure on myself I had A LOT more fun. Once i had fun I relaxed, and once I relaxed I got so much better. I would recommend giving it a second try if you have the time. Most of getting good at startcraft is learning how to do multiple things at the same time, without forgetting. period. Thats why the best are the best. I never got THAT good, but I noticed my mental dexterity certainly increased after practicing for hours.

I played a few matches last night and lost miserably on the first few, but to my surprise I actually beat a Diamond Terran.

Starcraft MMO would be interesting. They were making a Starcraft First-person shooter that unfortunately got scrapped.

I am definitely buying Heart of the Swarm, but I don't know if I'm going to climb the ladder again. I enjoyed SC2, but eventually it got sort of boring just doing the same thing over and over again. League has a lot more variation, and I generally like the teamwork.

For me, I just played endlessly from day one, starting in silver. I pretty much skipped gold (played one match) and got thrown right into platinum. Then some weeks later I got into diamond. Being good at SC2 is certainly something you can brag about though, while being good at LoL is kind of uninteresting.

Getting good at SC2 is VERY hard and takes a lot of dedication.

MOBAs have a pretty steep learning curve, but once you get it down.. I duno, I just dont find the same amount of excitement in it.

I'm looking forward to the new campaign especially since I play zerg (For the Swarm!). I'll definitely take a crack at the ladder, but I don't know if I will put the time and effort into it that I did with Wings of Liberty.

It didn't take that much effort for me actually, somehow I am just naturally good at handling macro, and I have a fairly good game sense. If I put more effort into it, I'm pretty sure I could compete in tournaments, possibly even win some. There aren't that many good Danish players. I think when I start back up in university, I'm going to switch back to StarCraft II, since it generally consumes less time than League does.

Starcraft and Broodwar consumed probably more than a healthy amount of my college years and I pre-ordered SC2. For that matter, SC2 was my main excuse for building a gaming rig, though my machine was ready more than a year before the game was. I was more a fan of the campaigns than multiplayer on SC/BW, and the Wings of Liberty campaign was pretty weak. The originals had a great sense of humor and a lot more personality, whereas WoL was just trying for epic everything and coming off kind of cheesy as a result. Still, they nailed matchmaking, which makes ladder a lot more accessible if you're willing to pick up at least a basic level of strategy (I'm not sure I ever accomplished even that much in Broodwar multiplayer).

I've been on a little Civ V kick the last week or so and playing pinball on my tablet, but I've put in 64 SC2 ladder games this season, which is pretty active for me. At least 2 or 3 seasons I've skipped entirely. I'll usually go on a two or three week jag and then wander off doing other things, but I keep going back to it. It used to be I'd feel really rusty if I stopped playing for even a few days, but the last couple times I got right back into it. My first 50 matches were Random, but since then it's been Zerg all the way.

I just patched to 2.0.x, and the new b-net UI is... quite good :D The 1.5 "arcade" redesign kind of blew IMO, but this one is much cleaner with more actual info and fewer clicks for most things.

btw, scII lags like a nightmare on my computer even if I'm just up against 1 AI. But I can play WoW just fine. Is this an internet issue or a computer issue?

Probably your computer. WoW will use some bandwidth, but it's an almost 10-year-old game that even then was designed to keep up a decent frame rate on any machine more powerful than a toaster oven. You could try turning the SC2 graphics settings way down, but even then if your CPU can't handle it, you're going to see some lag.

Framerate issue. Not lag.

World of Warcraft swallows up a lot more bandwidth than SC2.

Oh man, and here I was blaming my internet. I guess I won't be zerging anytime soon

I played WOW on dialup up until around Wrath of the Lich King. Only problems I had were pvp greater than 15man, and 40 man raids.

You were not using addons then.

I only used a couple (target of target, DPS meter, something else for raid bosses, and another for quick gear change) most of those got implemented by blizzard later on. The lag got worse after vanilla. I could run all the 40 man raids pre BC without any major problems (other than the fact I couldn't use TS). After that, I couldn't handle some of the 20 mans. It even became a problem to walk through the major towns. Sometimes I had to ask my friends to log in on my account to move me away. I would only step foot in Shattrath if it was like 4 in the morning.

That's your computer not being able to keep up though. A lot of the current addons in Mists of Pandaria eat up a fair bit of bandwidth, because they query the server for a lot of information, that you would not otherwise be requesting. The end results is a much higher amount of data downloaded through the API.

Back in Wrath, I played on one of the most populated servers in Europe. I could run Dalaran, since I had a decent computer, but a lot of people would just hang out outside of the city on their flying mounts.

Ah, gotcha. That explains a lot. And yeah, I meant to say Dalaran....I forgot the name of it.

I wish there was some kind of "tourist mode" for MMOs, because I enjoy exploring them, but I just can't make a single game my part time job.

What's nice about SC2 is that while there's a substantial knowledge base and you can go as deep into it as you want, it's still based on single matches. There's an inherent depth based on the need for some basic meta-game awareness, but it's still over in 8-30 minutes 90% of the time.

PvP is not very time consuming anymore, but if you want to do raids, and not just looking for raid, then you need to invest a lot of time. Personally I really enjoy high level raiding, and am able to keep my weekly ingame time at around twenty hours or so.

Yeah, twenty hours per week doing one thing I'm not paid for which is not sleeping... Maybe if I lived in Scandinavia.

Right now I'm just hoping for no major system failures before I find myself in a position to have some form of health insurance.

Try turning your graphics down, I have a good enough PC to play everything on ultra, but I still play ladder on low settings.

I used to do serious trolling, always played as protoss. Either proxy photon cannon, zealot rush or my all time favourite of
rushing for templars. My all time best was 6 minutes for a templar rush, only need one or two stalkes to fake fail attacking,
by the time they realise its too late

Man, I'm excited/nervous for Heart of the Swarm. I want to play the new campaign (despite the Wings of Liberty campaign being kind of meh) and check out the new units, but I feel like I'm just hitting my stride w/ WoL strategy and now in a few days everything will change. I've been watching a bit of the Intel Extreme Masters HotS tourny this weekend (here), and one thing I keep hearing is that ZvZ is looking to be nothing but Muta showdowns :( I'm not crazy about the Viper, either. I do look forward to the return of mass Hydra, which was deadly in Broodwar. You can't really go mass hydra in HotS, but Hydras are at least useful now. Swarmhosts look cool, but so far it seems like they're pretty useless in the meta-game.

As a zerg - I hate you Mr. Cannon rush/Proxy.

No just kidding, really though whatever you can do to win. Higher tier players just learn to fend those off. 6 minutes is seriously impressive for templars. Were you going for storm, or archon?

Brother, the viper is AMAZING. AMAAAAAAAZING. Watch some pros utilize them, it's SO fun to watch. Hydras are EVERYWHERE in Pro hots matches. I'm really excited because instead of zerg going ling/infestor into broods every game, or ling/roach/infestor. pro zergs are using like 5-6 different units in their army comps.

I wouldnt count Swarmhosts out. I saw a ZvP last week where a guy made like 10-12 swarm hosts. and would just spawn locusts, retreat, spawn, retreat, etc. The toss COULD NOT get his third. and by the time he had things under control the zerg had his 4th and 5th base up.

I'm not sure how I feel about how good I'm going to do in HOTS, but HOTS has made pro matches so much more entertaining.

The funniest strategy i've ever seen was in a 2v2 against a diamond and a gold, the diamond zerg player proxy hatchery'd. By the time we saw it the creep was too much and he had spine crawlers up in our face. It only works on like one map since its pretty obvious if you look around your base. I wasn't even mad when I saw it I just burst out laughing and asking my friend have you seen that over the microphone.

ahh the elusive proxy hatch -> spine crawler rush. I used to do this 1v1 on Shattered temple against protoss that FFE. Or rush Lair and Overlords and drop creep, and do it :P

I haven't done a proxy hatch in a long time, but they are hilarious. My favorite is hiding it in the corner of a fellow zerg's base and pumping out lings and spines. It always gets a "wtf?" or "lol" over chat and a lot of people can't even be mad they lost to such crazy cheese.

Honestly the thing that makes SC2 is the matchmaking system--most matches are very balanced in skill, which makes for really fun ladder play. They also keep the units/races well balanced IMO, though some people will tell you different. In SC2, multiplayer is the game, whereas SC1 put a lot more into the storyline and little unit dialogue Easter eggs. To me, the WoL campaign had a pretty generic storyline and the style of the cinematics was cheesy, trading in the humor of the original games for a gritty and overmuscled "Punisher" aesthetic. The first thing I'll do with HotS is play the campaign, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Did anyone pick up Heart of the Swarm?

I just finished the campaign and thought it was a lot of fun.

Yep, I pre-ordered it and started playing on release night, but haven't had a lot of time since then. I still have a few missions left in the campaign (which is much better than WoL so far) and I just started ladder a couple days ago, right after the MLG finals. I've mostly been falling back on WoL strategy in ladder, with a bit more hydralisk play. I never seem to get as far as Vipers without Broodlords making more sense, and I've tried out Swarm Hosts but they seem pretty easy to counter with any detection. I've had Oracle harass once and shut it down pretty easily, more Reapers from Terran, and mass Voids once, but otherwise no sign of the dreaded skytoss. Ladder will probably change a lot in the next couple weeks, but right now it's mostly a lot of fumbling around and falling back on old tactics, at least down here in Silver.

It's mostly the same in Platinum league. Lots of oracle harass though. LOTS of Bio drops from Terran after MLG. Lot's of Bio/Spider mine thanks to Flash -.-.

ZvZ is still boring as hell, lol. Early baneling fights into Muta vs Muta most games. I've just been making hydras and taking the new speed upgrade right off the bat. Spore crawlers do DOUBLE damage to bio now (Mutas).

Bought it, mostly to play fun arcade maps with a friend, and maybe to create some maps as well. :poof:

I was having a great run with swarm host and hydra in ZvP yesterday. It completely shuts down deathball as long as you snipe observers. I would open 15/15 (hatch then pool or pool then hatch), drop one extractor and a roach warren, get both bases saturated, make just a few lings for watchtowers/scouting, get all four gases and start 8-12 roaches, +1 missile, Lair and a 3rd base all at about the same time. When Lair finishes, drop hydra den, and about the time the second hydra upgrade finishes, drop infestation pit. Out of 8-10 matches (granted, in silver) it failed once, and one other time I didn't get as far as hosts because I defended a chargelot attack and took my roach/hydra force across the field to clean up. Toss opponents cry hard when five or six collossi drop to little spitting bugs and hydras :D

You will need the 3rd base gas to get your hosts out and respawn hydras.

Widow mines are VERY mean I've learned. Now that I've fought my way back to Plat/Diamond Terrans are using these with frightening effectiveness.
