Thread: Dexter - Season 7

I'm glad they got so quickly to the heart of the matter. They could've easily dragged this out over half a season, which would've been complete bullshit, given the end of the previous one.

Great to see Dexter back. This season is really shaping up to be great, despite a lot of dumb stuff already happening.

I thought this thread would be filled by now. Dexter is such a great show I assumed there'd be a lot more people who watched it here.

Yeah, I initially thought he was going to tell her everything in that first scene. But once he didn't, I was sure she wouldn't know the full story until at least a few more episodes in. That's why the ending scene shocked me.

I love how they immediately killed off pretty much the only competent cop in Miamo Metro though. Then again, I didn't actually remember he was in the show, until he showed up shouting at people to get stuff done, so it's not too much of a loss.

I'm excited to see where the LaGuerta thing goes. I never really liked her, but she is pretty intelligent, basically a female Doakes. Right now there are basically three people that Dexter will have problems with. First off Debra of course. Loius knows something, but he's too curious to just reveal Dexter. And then of course LaGuerta, she's probably going to reopen Doakes' case on her own time.

Dunno about Louis though. I thought his role as some kind of mastermind in the previous season was sort of interesting, especially as a plot point that they developed over two seasons (they haven't done this since Doakes pretty much), but now he's cooling down and just turning into a nuisance I feel.

One part of the premiere I thought was really funny, sort of ham fisted, but ultimately necessary, was how Batista and Quinn just made up in the bar. Like, the conflict was just growing and growing, and then it just got solved in a minute or two in a bar. I like Quinn, even if he has the appearance of a guy you wouldn't really ever like. He's fairly intelligent, he doesn't bullshit too much, probably a better cop than Batista. I hope they don't kill him off in some meaningless plot armor bout (kind of like how competent cop guy got killed).

Just more talk.

I've gotta say I'm surprised there aren't more replies to this thread as well.

I just finished watching the second ep and this season is looking really good. After seasons 5 and 6, which were meh, I'm looking forward to Sundays again.

GAHHHH I didn't know it was back on. Why did I have to see this, now I'll be waiting every week for a new episode instead of watching them all at the end!
Anyway, fantastic first two episodes. I just want some brotherly/sisterly love up in this bitch.

Are you kidding me? The fun is in waiting every week for a new episode. I get to the point of yanking all my hair off and biting my nails because I just can't wait to see what's going to happen next. And that's a good thing.

Personally I was somewhat disappointed in this week's episode. It progressed the plot, which is always a good thing, but LaGuerta continues to be an idiot, and Dexter is back to fucking with Debra at every possible turn.

There might be some Doakes flashbacks coming up though, so it can't all be bad.

LaGuerta has to die. Period. I've never liked that woman.

I'm hoping for some Doakes flashbacks too. "Surprise, mothafucka!"

Oh I love this show, and so far the two episodes haven't disappointed. But the ending of the first one was the best!

You guys happy with this Hannah storyline? I like the actress, but her chemistry with Michael C. Hall is kinda meh.

It's ok, you're right about the lack of chemistry. But I am curious about whether he will kill her or screw her.

And Deb... well, it would make me happy if she embraced her dark side a bit more. That would be interesting.

But so far I'm liking the season

I think it'd be epic if Dex killed her while screwing her. Might be a little messier than Dexter's used to, though.

I agree about Deb. It was nice seeing her give Dexter the green light.

That was fucked. I was shaking with adrenaline from 30 minutes in till the end. Crazy.

Can't believe that was the last episode this season. Ahhhhh why do we have to wait another 6 months?

So many incredibly obvious plotholes, and generally terrible writing.

I'm not a fan of this season either. It simply lacked focus. Might as well have been an anthology.

And the ending was kind of dumb. "I gave her half a dose so it won't show up in the toxicity report. Except that it still would, but this explains why she's about to wake up and tell you to shoot me. Except not really."

Not to mention the fact that Dexter would've been fucked if LaGuerta had a shred of competence, and actually called in for backup, rather than going on her own.

While re-watching the series I've noticed that some of the plot details are unrealistic. The dialogue can be unnatural, people react unrealistically sometimes. My mom is a nurse, and while watching it she'd complain about almost every hospital scene, that they did completely nonsensical things like hooking someone with cancer up to a heart monitor, putting some monitor on the wrong location on Rita's stomach (on her own chest instead of near the baby), and when Rita was bleeding my mom insisted that in real life, that early in the pregnancy they'd just send the woman home, not keep her there overnight. But most of those things don't really matter since most people don't know about them. Still it's a bit annoying. I do try to ignore it but it's hard to get as involved in the story when unrealistic things happen.

I wasn't as involved in Season 7 as the others, but that may be because I had to wait a week between episodes, while the others I watched one after another. So it's hard to judge it. My brother watched it before I did and afterward said excitedly that had been the most intense Dexter episode he's ever watched. So I expected it to be really intense, and maybe this is why I didn't find it too amazing. The fact that Deb found out already shook the entire world of Dexter, it seemed. So after that, any other bizarre things that happened just didn't seem very bizarre. Deb killed LaGuarta... if that had happened in an earlier season, it would have been intense, but it didn't feel very intense because so much crazy s*** was already happening it was like adding 100 to a million.

Has anyone else noticed that Dexter seasons almost always follow the same scheme?: Dexter meets someone he thinks he might be able to trust and confide in, then by the end, the person is gone because it didn't work out for whatever reason. It happened in Season 1 with his brother, in season 2 with Lila, in season 3 with Miguel, in season 5 with Lumen, in season 7 with [blanking on her name]. That's 5/7 seasons.

Well that's sort of the point. He wants to believe he may somehow be able to fit in, and be happy, but realises he never will.

I wouldn't look at it as "the same thing over and over", rather his search for normalcy.

I agree with Tommo, I wouldn't call it a scheme because that sounds like they're following the formula fdor plot reasons, but they're following it for theme reasons. The story is about dexter's search for acceptance or peace or something (he doesn't really know what he's looking for)

I do believe the need to wrap the series up though, it's getting retarded.
