Inheritance Cycle (Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, Inheritance)

Any C.P. readers out there? Yes, I know the Eragon storyline is straight out of Star Wars, but the books gain much depth and the storyline is enchancting after that... Also, the ending (spoilers) was perfect for me, even though I know most readers were disappointed that there was no kiss between Eragon and Arya. Share your opinion!

The ending made the phrase contrived seem contrived. Biggest cop out.

Christopher Paolini read a bunch of fantasy novels where the main characters "have to leave the land forever", so he just decides to string that into Eragon. It felt so forced...fuck man, it was so cliche. It made no sense.

Then again, it's Star Wars set in Middle Earth. What was I expecting? An ending that hasn't been done to death? It's my fault really.

Ha, I know what you mean. I guess I kinda grew up with the books, so I fell pretty attached to the charachters. I do think he pulled it off right with Eragon and Arya, because speaking their "true names" was a lot more intimate than a kiss or even sex.

I can understand what you're saying about the attachment when you grow up with a series. I'm only 20, if I was a few years younger I would probably be more forgiving. Harry Potter was my story read growing up. I started reading Eragon a bit later than everyone else.

Eragon and Arya was never a romance. The first three books was just Eragon having teenlust after some hot elf ass. There never was any mutual feelings. That's not a romance. I hated Arya's character. Then again, I hated the all the elves. Seriously, how fucking OP can a race get? Not only are they far faster and stronger than humans, but they're also the masters of magic. And oh yeah, you thought Dwarves were going to be good at crafting shit? Like weapons and armor? Nah, elves are the best at that too. Also they're the wisest and most intelligent of the races. So Eragon decides to give the ELVES the true name of Magic? So no-one even has a chance against an elf in magic? God damn that shit made me so mad.

That might not all make sense. Had a lot at the bars tonight. But FUCK THE ELVES real talk

Well said. Haha. But in the third book, a relationship starts to develop between Eragon and Arya, and in the fourth book... well she goes in his tent and gets drunk with him, and then they tell each other their true names. Random change of feelings, but satisfying nonetheless.

Anyways, at least the elves have lucid dreams called "waking dreams" in the books.

I loved the first three books, the four was an utter disappointment. It looked like such a good book half way through. Nauseda in prison, Eragon and Arya stuck in dras-leano. I was hoping Nauseda would become the greenie rider and play a major role in defeating galby, I wanted Arya to be killed in Dras-leanona. I wanted galbatorix to be a lot more fearsome. And i was hoping god-human roaran would face his doom. but alas, it went to the old cliche, everyone survived and Arya got the dragon I also got really pissed when it said about 246 dragon eggs, that was a really bad plot device.
They say dreaming is dead, no one does it anymore.
It's not dead it's just that it's been forgotten, removed from our language.
Nobody teaches it so nobody knows it exists.
The dreamer is banished to obscurity.
Well, I'm trying to change all that, and I hope you are too.
      By dreaming, every day.

I read the first two when I was young... they were pretty meh. I barely remember what happened... I just vaguely recall a long line of clichés and poor writing.

I haven't read them but based on what I know of them, they were good practice for a young writer but shouldn't have been published. I'm interested in seeing what Paolini comes up with after he's matured in his writing style.

      (I grew up on Redwall)

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

I havnt read them, but my former roomate loved the first few books...hated the last one. Apparently this is a pretty common opinion, so all I can say is better luck next time CP
