Talking 2012 Man of Steel First Picture

DC is scrapping the red undies so it's hard to see if he has the underwear on or not. Still.. looks badass. Also notice the reflective blue suit, the risen "S", the super long cape (I assume flight time looks sick), and trademark v-cut boots. Very different from the 2006 superman film.

      Nolan won't disappoint.

I've always thought Superman was the lamest super hero ever. I'll give this film the benefit of the doubt since that still image seems more impressive than the entire 2006 film. If it gets good reviews, I might watch it but even then it's unlikely.

He can shoot lasers out of his eyes, has freeze-breath, super-human strength, he's bullet-proof bomb-proof (probably) nuke-proof, etc - basically over-powered even by super hero standards. His weakness? A fucking glowing green rock.

I think Sups ought to reconsider that long cape. Look what happened to the bad guy in The Incredibles.

      I Lol'd hard.

I like this new Superman look. I just hope the reboot will not suck like the last Superman movie. Nevertheless, it's a Superman flick so I'll surely see it in 2012.

A friend explained to me that it was an "Incredibles" reference. Never saw the film so I hope you understand why I took your post out of context. For that I'm sorry. On the other hand though, seriously.. stop being a dick.

I can understand that. The comics did make him pretty powerful. I think at one point in the golden age, he was able to juggle planets.

Face-fucking-Palm @ the beginning of this thread.

      But whatever.

I was discussing this pic with a friend of mine, the other day. I just hope they give him his "S Curl" hair (which I don't see in this pic). We don't want him looking all guido, or like Dean Cain in Lois and Clark. That damn S Curl is a trademark!

People make the same argument about Goku from DBZ, and it irritates the hell out of me. It's like people think that mega-powered superheroes like Supes and Goku spend all their time fighting humans and robots. Their major battles are against beings that are just as strong (if not stronger) than they are. Shit, Superman got his ass handed to him by Doomsday. Granted, it was a Double K.O. situation, but it wasn't a glowing green rock that killed Superman. It was literally getting his face bashed in by a creature that was just as strong as he is.

Strength is relative, and neither Superman nor Goku are the strongest beings in their universes.

It's not just Nolan behind this. Don't forget Snyder directing (slow then fast motion errywhere) and Goyer writing.

The signature hair curl would be nice to see. I don't know what to make of the suit.

No real judgements yet. The picture's colours are all muted, and I don't know how much significance to place on any of it for how the film will look and feel and be.

It needs be epic. And in a very different vein and tone to Nolan's Dark Knight work. But Nolan - or Goyer, I forget which - has said some very promising things about the distinctions there.

I hope it succeeds. I'd like to see Superman get a place in the current pantheon of cinematic comic darlings.

Nolan....and Synder...oh it's a wrap. If this movie turns out crap, then there's no way possibly to put supes in a decent manner on the big screen.

Is it really that good that Nolan is directing this? Some artistic diversity would be nice.

Also. I misspelt Snyder. Everything must be editted.

Nolan is only producing. Perhaps some writing? Who knows. IMDB that's who.

I was gonna ask 'like 300?'; then it occurred to me that if you said that then Snyder was probably the director of 300.

I am disappoint. His direction was lame. >:|

Don't know how to feel about Nolan producing, then. Would help if a single person on Earth knew what a producer was.

      Snyder did direct Watchmen, though.

Which was pretty faithful and a pretty good film.

He was almost slavish in bringing out the colours, movements, and general feel of the characters in that. And seeing Superman get that treatment would be very, very nice.

      Very nice indeed.

It'll probably be the same standard superman plot

PART 1: Superman is awesome. Look at all the crime he stops, and cats he rescues from trees (cause he can fly lulz)

PART 2: Clark Kent scene - look how awkward and clumsy he is, lol comic relief

PART 3: Villain is introduced. He has plan, and somehow isn't afraid of Superman, I wonder why

PART 4: Lame romantic bullshit nobody buys

PART 5: Villain kidnaps someone at random (lois lane)

PART 6: Villain reveals secret weapon. It's kryptonite. NOBODY saw it coming again

PART 7: Superman cowers at the power of kryptonite. Villain laughs and says funny one liners

PART 8: Superman recovers from kryptonite by either:

      - having someone remove it from his vicinity
      - waiting a while
      - going to the fortress of solitude (going on foot optional)

PART 9: Superman beats up villain (really just carries him to jail)

      end

Probably not. He'll be fighting Kryptonians.

(But if Lex Luthor plays a big part - which he might - I'm sure there'll be some kryptonite involved, somewherez. )
