That is so true in many ways. Take a difficulty, for example. Most of the games nowadays are sooo easy if you compare for game from 1980-1999. Maybe the change of millenia brought the concept of very easy games

I believe it has to do with the "entertainment" factor. Solving a puzzle is hard, working out a complex strategy is even harder - why do that when you can play a game that gives you the WOW! factor? When you're hit with entertainment, after entertainment, easily satisfying you instead of having to put in a lot of effort for a greater reward over a long period of time (example, conquering your opponent's territories through turn-based strategy), its a lot easier to sit back and "enjoy" the game.
unfortunately it leads to minimal brain development in exchange for easy rewards.
