Final Fantasy Discussion Thread

Here, discuss what final fantasies you liked (if you liked any) and which ones you hate. If you absolutely hate every final fantasy because of the many reasons people hate Final Fantasy ( i like it anyways), please don't post OR post, but don't purposely start arguements about why final fantasy is bad and crap :D.

Anyways I've only played VII, X-2 and XIII. VII was sick but everyone was emo and the game was too easy. lol. X-2 WAS AWFUL ASS CRAP SPEWED FROM SOME ASSES ASS! and XIII (in my own opinion(dont hurt mwee :parapet:) was AWESOME! I loved every second of it :)

What FFs did you like/ want to play :P I want to play 6, 8,10 and 12 a lot.

The first one I ever played was final fantasy adventure for gameboy which I really liked. Crystal Chronicles for game cube was awesome, especially with the gameboy advanced controllers lol so fun. Final Fantasy tactics was really fun. I played a little bit of 1 and 2 I think but I never got into the main games, except 9, I got fairly into it and really liked the storyline and game but I never finished it, I gotta do that.

I wanna play 9 :P The villain seems cool

I must also say that I think 7 is by far the best (when it came out, it was also the first JRPG I ever played). I enjoyed 6 and 10 a lot. 9 was alright. 8 had its moments, but I thought it was weaker than the other ones. 12 was different, but enjoyable - I liked the world, yet storyline and character development sucked, especially the main character was a joke.

I think I played 4&5 as well, I just don't remember them right now. Tactics I don't think I ever played.

Now 13 - From reviews, I thought I would get over the incredibly linear gameplay for the sake of the story and character development, but so far it is giving me nothing. Then I thought that the supposedly innovative combat mode should keep me interested, but that also doesn't seem to be the case. I'm on the beginning of disc 2 and have put the game on hold.

Crystal Chronicles I never finished, but found rather boring and weird.

Then there were two FF7 additions I tried: dirge of cerberus (action) for the ps2 and crisis core (action rpg) for the psp. The former was alright and fun, vincent is a pretty cool character. Crisis Core was actually quite well done and it was nice to see the well known places in a different light and the game from a different perspective.

I think 8 was the only real dissapointing one for me, couldent really get into it, and never played 9 but wud still love to. 7 is my favourite because it was the first rpg I ever played. I wud also prefer 10 over 13.

Meh, im like the only person who likes XIII this much :P I really want to play VI with Kefka :P

I've played 4-12. 6 was my favorite because of the way the characters stand out in the storyline and on the battle field. They sort of do that in IX and X, but not as much. I got to the end of X-2 and it really wasn't that bad as long as you didn't look at it like a traditional FF. The thing is...most everything after 6 had the entire cast being jacks of all trades. The later on in the series, the more generic the characters got battle wise. Luckily the music has always been good for the most part. VI VII VIII IX and X had great soundtracks. My favorite characters in no order are:

Cloud
.....maybe some other cats.....i'm not sure.

My favourite, by far, was 6. I enjoyed most of the others (except 8 lol)

1: Not all that great; I played it for the sake of playing the game that set the wheels in motion. Still pretty okay, given the time and technology they had. A lot of the common pieces were already in place.

4: Awesome! I think it was the first one that had a really, really engaging plot with cool characters and stuff (though maybe 2 and 3 had them too... dunno, I feel they probably focused more on the game engine for those).

5: It was fun, but I never quite got through it. The more I advanced, the more overwhelmed I felt with all the different jobs I was learning and stuff. If I find a guide that describes a good strategy for getting through efficiently with a small set of jobs (i.e. no need to sit there and level forever cause you want to develop all the new stuff you earn), I might go back and play it again.

6: YEAH!!!! AMAZING story, amazing SNES graphics, awesome characters, wonderful music, well-designed levels, fun battle system, good balance, and worthwhile sidequests (sidequests tend to develop the characters more, rather than just get you some random item for performing stupid arbitrary tasks). This is, in my opinion, the best FF game so far, and I truly wish they'd do a high quality remake for the PS3.

7: Pretty awesome as well, for much of the same reasons as I liked 6. 6 was better IMO, but this was also really, really solid. Good battle system, too.

8: WTF, squaresoft? What happened? The good: Really great graphics, breath-taking cutscenes and visuals, and some of Nobuo's absolute best musical work. Can't deny those things. When I search youtube for cool orchestrated remixes and stuff, most of what I find is ff8, and that's no surprise. The bad: HORRIBLE character development, subpar plot, and the battle system leaves a LOT to be desired. It turns out nobody gives a fuck about "draw" - stupid idea! Don't know how that made it past the reviews at game design stage. Also, I didn't find out until very late in the game that levelling up is useless until you're near the end. Though that might be a good thing in retrospect. I might go back and play this one again, since that also means you can play through the entire story (and the first half of disc 2 is a lot of fun) really quickly, so might be worth going for it.

9: Awesome! I loved the series going back to what made it great back in the SNES days. Great characters and story, and the nice, simple battle system was good.

10: People had mixed reviews of this one, but I actually liked the story a lot. I'd love to meet an awesome girl like Lulu in real life haha. The battle system was really good (innovative, yet simple) and I liked the way the level-ups worked (the weird sphere/orb system). It made it fun, and as opposed to generic level-ups, where you get random stat increases, here, you could visually "look forward" to how your power increases. Made it kind of fun to level. The only things I hated in this game were: 1) Tidus' shitty voice acting in Engish, 2) That god damn fucking chocobo race to get Tidus' last sword - AARRRGH most controller-damage-inducing frustrating thing ever! Took me like 2304234 tries to get it!!!!! Even the sound effect of getting hit was the sound of a slap to the face, for added insult. But otherwise, awesome.

11: nope, not gonna get roped into any MMO shiat.

12: It was an interesting system. It made it easier to get through, cause instead of random battles, there were just enemies there, and you didn't have to do anything if you set your gambits up. But for big, crowded battles, it felt a bit overwhelming at times. Story was "okay" but there wasn't very much to it. Characters were kind of lame... like they were random people teaming up with a common goal, but no real strong links developing between them. It's like they were together for no other reason than political alliance. I felt, at the end, like after they all go back to their homes, they won't be visiting each other during peace time as friends haha. Also, gave up on the side quests (e.g. hunts) near the end - it just wasn't worth it... beat the game in a massively overpowered state. :)

Have not played 13. based on the above, do you guys think I'll like it or hate it?

and I heard 14 is yet another MMO, so won't be playing that. Here's to 15. :D

music= AWESOME
story: The story will only make sense if you read the datalog entries for the important characters, beings, and such. The charatcer development was AWESOME TERRIFIC SAUCE xD. If you are expecting an FF game, this is nothing like FF when it comes with story except for complexity :P
gameplay: IMO it was awesome :P very difficult from chapter 9 onward, where the HP of bosses practically increases by 3000% to 13000% (that wasnt a typo :P)

have never played 6 or 9, always wanted to play 9 but never thought about 6. but with all this talk about how awesome it is im defos gonna hay to get it.

I thought 12 was really good but quite a forgetable story, cant really rember anything about it.

got on to the third disc of 13 but then fallout new vegas came out and 13 has not been touched since, thought it was awesome but the linier story kinda annoyed me tbh.

Yep. At the risk of sounding like a fanboy: If you like FF, and haven't played 6, then do yourself a favour and get an snes emulator and play through it. I like villains like Golbez, Kefka, Sephiroth and Seymour, because they interact with you throughout the game. And they aren't all-powerful at the very beginning (which always made me wonder, why didn't they just wipe out the party right away?) They get stronger as the game progresses, along with your characters. Really awesome and refreshing. (as opposed to friggin Ultimecia, who you've never heard about until almost the end of FF8.. ugh)

barthandelus (the villain of FFXIII) you dont hear about until chapter 9 O_O. But i think hes battles arent trying to kill you, they are a testament of your strength to defeat the actual villain you hear about i chapter 10 orphan. Then he gets stronger everytime to see if you get stronger. Although you see the villains 'half way through the game', Chapter 11 can be 10-40 hours depending on how much you do in it.

The first Final Fantasy I played was X.

This one is my most favorite, because this was actually the last final fantasy that was even good. Every Final Fantasy after it, I had no interest in because, well they aren't really Final Fantasy games anymore. Actually, every Final Fantasy game AFTER X-2, I can say, wasn't really a Final Fantasy game anymore. They butchered the battle system in the newest ones.

The next one I played was X-2. Pretty decent, but not as good as X. I like this one because its just a bunch of mini games in my opinion. And you can have your own Chocobo farm!

I played a bit of Crystal Chronicles, but that wasn't actually a Final Fantasy game, it was still fun though. A Final Fantasy game on the Gamecube, surprising.

After this one, I played Final Fantasy VIII. Another one of my favorites, I picked it up at a local thrift store and played it on my Playstation 1. I like how you can draw as much spells as you want and you don't have to have MP!

I had Final Fantasy XII on the PS2. It wasn't actually a Final Fantasy game IMO, but it was still pretty fun. The battle system is nothing like a Final Fantasy Game.

I played a bit of Final Fantasy on the NES and a bit of Final Fantasy 3, english translated ROM on my emulator. Its good for an RPG on the NES. I never thought there would be RPG games on the NES. Right now I am attempting to buy Final Fantasy NES so I can try it out. I'm just surprised its cheap!

I am also trying to pick up a SNES so I can have all the Final Fantasy games for the SNES.

In short, I have played: Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2, Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles.

I want to play: Pretty much all the Final Fantasy games I haven't played yet, but I really want to play Final Fantasy VII and IX the most. My roommate told me that I MUST play Final Fantasy VII, because in his opinion, he likes that one the most. He does play it alot on his laptop, along with IX. I want to play IX because I like the music. I can listen to that all day!

I've only played a few of the Final Fantasy games. The ones I've played are XII, XIII, and then parts of I and VII. I've completed Final Fantasy VII - Crisis Core and played a part of VII - Dirge of Cerebrus. Before playing any of these Final Fantasy games I watched Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children.

I'd say out of all the games I enjoyed the most, it was Crisis Core due the wonderful story line, character development, excellent cut scenes, and the action in general. Zack is now a personal idol of mine, someone who I adore and wis I could be more like. I was mostly depressed for a long time though due to how the ending turned out to be. Don't worry, I won't spoil anything... yet.

I wished they'd remake the original VII though. I don't enjoy spending time in front of a game that I consider to have "poor graphics". The actual battles I consider to be well-made and original, and think it would suit me well - but then waiting for like 10-20 seconds just waiting for your meter to fill so you can attack can be really annoying. Love the music - never get tired of it. The storyline and character development I consider to be well-made. The 2-d environment itself can be confusing at times. Although the background is well drawn, you can be easily confused where to go. I, not knowing of the existence of the map in the game, can get easily lost within the city where part (or a good portion of it) takes place. As a gamer, I want to be able to explore the environment without becoming hopelessly lost.

BTW, Crisis Core reveals that Cloud, originally just trying out be a part of SOLDIER, eventually gets Mako infused into his body, and ends up being a first-class SOLDIER. However, in FF VII, it starts off with Cloud taking part in an operation to take down one of seven factories that help power the SOLDIER building, insisting that he would never be a part of SOLDIER again. Something happens to trigger the removal of himself from SOLDIER - so; what happened? Anyone sniffing a prequel/sequel here? Of course might be me just overimaginating hopefulness for a better understood storyline, and in hopes that more games under the FF VII title show up, because that storyline was so good.
