Heidi!
ep4-4.jpg
I read the book long before watching the anime(created by Isao Takahata and Miyazaki). I liked the book (here's my take on it - an elaborate essay I wrote long back), but more than the book, I loved what Calpis Theater made So much so, I cry like a baby each time I watch the episode in which her depression becomes apparent. It is painful to see how she longs to go back to the Alps and how much she misses home, her grandfather, Peter, and pretty much everyone back home. I watch Heidi once every year (it's a ritual of sorts. I've been at it for over a decade now - yes, I'm a die-hard Heidi fan ). The book didn't evoke as many emotions as the show did and for that, I'm forever indebted to Takahata and Miyazaki. I love Miyazaki, but Takahata is my favorite. Each movie of his has made me cry, no exceptions. From Only Yesterday to My Neighbors the Yamadas, there's not one movie of his that hasn't made me all emotional. I totally LOVE Takahata
