      Movies Everyone Should See

Some friends and I were chatting, and the topic led to movies that everyone should see at least once in your lifetime ((regardless of rating or genre)).
I thought it would be neat to see what some of you have to say, so just post as many as you want with some reason why you picked it.
      Just to start off:
      It's A Wonderful Life
I watch this movie every year at Christmas time with my family so I guess it's just a bit of a tradition for me.
      Dumbo
Yes, Dumbo. Because the movie rocks 8) and it's the only Disney movie I ever cried my eyes out over after watching it after I turned ten.

Yeah, I know...I picked the cheesy ones...I might add some others later.

Pulp Fiction (the most influential movie of the 90s)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Kaufmann is a genius)
      Waking Life (Mind blowing)
Scarface (De Palma is the man, Pacino unbelievable)
      The Matrix (Mind bending)

Rainman - It's simply a great movie. It tells about an autistic man (Dustin Hoffman) and his brother (Tom Cruise).
Don't think about those damn kangaroos.

A few lesser known (or not lesser known) ones:

The Dark Crystal (which I grew up on)
      Mystery Men
      The Poseidon Adventure
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
      Lord of the Rings (trilogy)
      Gladiator
      Dune
      - the newer version

      Movies they should remake:
The Last Starfighter - they really could make that movie so awesome if done right

Abre los ojos should also be considered. It is the original masterpiece that Crowe translated into Vanilla Sky. (no joke he basically translated it word for word from Spanish to English and redid it nearly shot for shot). Personally I find the original to be deeper, darker, and more artistic than the remake. (though if your brain can't handle foreign films or reading subtitles, then just settle for Vanilla Sky).

Ok, here's a list of movies that I strongly recommend:
      * The Corporation (2003) - it's a documentary, a very interesting one.
      * Donnie Darko (2001) - great movie, one of my all-time favs
      * The Butterfly Effect (2004) - a movie about time travel and it’s side effects
      * Forrest Gump (1994) - I liked this movie since the day I first saw it
      * Waking Life (2001) - go figure ... who didn't saw it, it would be a good idea to go rent it
      * What Dreams May Come (1998) - interesting theories mixed together

Mulholland Drive, the only film I've found that gets better each time you watch it. Anything else by David Lynch also highly recommended.

      David Lynch is a Genius.

Have you seen his earlier work, stuff like Grandma and The Alphabet (highly interesting movies).

I love the dreamlike quality he brings to his movies (cant really think of another director who does that to the same degree who doesnt forsake the audiences intelligence for silly action sequences).
