I want Tyrion for King of everything
Some pretty interesting plot twists lately
Spoiler for Spoilers:
Can't wait until Season 3 premieres!
:panic:
Not a bad opener for the season based on my favorite book from the series.
I haven't read the books, but I'm really enjoying the HBO series. Tyrion is my favorite character. I felt really bad for him the way his father went off on him in the season premier this week. Like its really *his* fault that his mother died during child birth? I really don't get why they keep throwing that in his face like he purposely murdered her on the way out!
Yeah, Tyrion's awesome. I also really like Jon Snow, Daenerys and Arya.
I hear so many good things about this tv show...I don't like Spartacus or The Tudors or Rome kind of series...would you still recommend it, or GOT is also around those lines?
Hard to say cause I never got into those shows either. I think it's one of those things you have to watch in order to know if you like it. The first episode should be enough to tell.
Yeah that's true, and the first episode comes off a little like what Rome and Tudors seemed to be, as in it hypes up the political intrigue. There's a lot of political intrigue going on actually, so it may be sort of like those shows. But I'd still give it a chance.
Yeah, Tyrion is awesome. He was my favorite character both in the books and in the series. The actor portrays him very well. That scene you're talking about, I loved it. They did change a lot of specific scenes from the books (nothing extreme, they just added scenes that would have made sense in the books too). But the dialog of that scene I think was taken directly from the book. That *father blaming child for killing their mother during childbirth* thing seems somewhat common. If you've seen Lost, remember that Ben's father blamed him for killing his mother too.
Out of that list, I've only seen The Tudors, and I can say that GoT is way better than that. I'd recommend watching maybe a few episodes, starting from the beginning of the first season of course, to see if you like it. You'd really need to start from the beginning, because it gets complicated and some people have trouble following along if they haven't read the books, even when they do start from the beginning.
It's worth a try, even if you don't like other fantasy or medieval-based films, because it is very different. In the Tudors, for example, it's really just drama. GoT does have a lot of drama but it isn't nearly as soap-opera-ey. It's just really well-made in general. There's a lot of drama involving power, but there's something for everyone: smart dialog, well-developed characters, a lot of attractive women in revealing clothing and sex scenes, the settings are beautiful, the actors are good, killing and gore, there's a good amount of action but it isn't like I'd imagine Spartacus or something to be. The political drama is relatable to the real world, and all the scenes are just interesting. It's hard to describe unless you've watched it. And the characters are more relatable to modern people than in most fantasies or medieval stories. Their attire, buildings, etc. aren't all medeival. They've taken architecture, clothing, etc. from various eras in the real world.
Just watched first episode. Can't formulate an opinion by now, but I'm going for the next one, which I guess it's a good sign ^^
EDIT: Thanks a lot, now I'm addicted
I forgot how much different stuff happens at once in book 3, no wonder they're splitting it into 2 seasons.
Does anyone remember which book the RW is in? Don't want to say what that stands for for people who don't know, but it's a really surprising, horrifying plot-changing point. I've been wondering whether it will happen in this season. But even if it was in the 3rd book, it's split into two, so we still may not get to see it.
Are the series intended to be the best possible replica of the books?
I'm wondering because I got so addicted that I already watched all the episodes in a couple of days :P Gonna try to find some sample of the books to see if I should buy them...after I decide if I want to watch all the rest of all the seasons already knowing exactly what's going to happen
edit: wow, the whole collection for only 40euros! In my country, is 10euros just for a single book and it's not even written in portuguese xD
They aren't exactly replicas, but some scenes are. A few portions of dialog are taken word-for-word from the books. On the other hand, a few aspects (like the character Ros) aren't even in the books, and were introduced only for the series. Of course, like with all shows/movies adapted from novels, a lot of information is missing. A lot happens in the books which doesn't happen in the series, or scenes are shortened to include only key plot points, since they simply don't have enough time to show everything. But in general the series does follow the main plot points and characters of the books accurately, perhaps more than most adaptations.
It would be nice to be able to watch the series and read the books for the first time, without doing the other first, but that's impossible. The problem is, no matter which you do first, the other will be spoiled in a way.
One day we'll perfect the art of amnesia bricks and after a short trip to the hospital, we'll be able to make those wishes come true :DQuote:

I'm sure it's been said before, but am I the only one that so far finds Sansa to be insufferable and a detractor to the show/books? I do love Arya and Denarys, of course. ^_^
Yeah I didn't like Sansa originally in the books either though, she ended up warming up to me and the show is no exception. At first she came off pouty but the actress is beginning to understand the character better and better. I think she did fantastic in the most recent episode.
The books just arrived...The reading is coming!
Stoked for tonight's Episode!
Then the dreaded two week haitus :morecrying:
I knew nothing of this hiatus! TWO FUCKING WEEKS?! HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO SURVIVE?
