Talking Warcraft 3: The gOLDEN years

Anybody here still plays the good 'ol legendary RTS game "Warcraft 3"? Sure there a lot of RTS game out there but who's the best RTS game when it comes to microing? WC3 of course. So the main point here is(you can answer as many as you want)

      Who still plays WC3?
      What race is your favorite?
      Share some of your tactics?

If you ask me, I still play WC3. I like the Orcs and the NEs. And my main tactic is technically called "scrape the head, devour the ass". I kinda use a "decoy army" which will attack the enemy on the front, while they are attacking, my Main army will attack at the back thus making it hard for the enemy to survive and escape the attack. If I still have enough money, I will make a "Siege army". So while the assault is happening, I will launch a surprise attack at the enemy base, destroying important structures like the Altar, Barracks and the ones producing heavy units(e.g. tauren, chimaera, etc)

I played a lot of Warcraft 3, but only custom games. I'm a fairly good StarCraft II player, but I haven't played in a while now. I would probably be a pretty good Warcraft 3 player, but I never found it quite as entertaining as StarCraft.

Well, I bought starcraft 2 last month, but I found out that it was burning out my video card so I returned it back for a refund. I must admit, it was more "high-tech" and it has more units than wc3, but one thing I like about wc3 is the Hero concept.

StarCraft is a lot more about controlling your economy and building a massive army. The more units you have at any time, the better. In Warcraft 3 you'll lose if you don't find a good balance between not having units and having units. In that way, Warcraft 3 and StarCraft are very different. In StarCraft, the outcome of a battle also depends on micro and positioning of course, but if you can't replenish your 200/200 army in less than 3 minutes of losing it, you lose the game.

While BlizzCon was going on, I watched some of the Warcraft 3 matches they had arranged. They were somewhat interesting and it definitely helped that I knew the tech trees and how the game worked, but I just found it pretty boring. I got really interested in StarCraft 2 after watching a few matches from the beta. Before that, my plan was just to play the campaign and customs, but watching matches really got me interested in the actual game. Can't say the same for Warcraft 3. My brother played in the Warcraft 3 beta though and was in one of the best clans in the world. He was pretty damn good, but he stopped playing when the actual game came out, which also changed some mechanics from the beta, so he got rusty pretty quick. He's decent at StarCraft 2, but depends way too much on micro. Like you'd expect from a Warcraft 3 player, I suppose.

Ah yes, I remember being really into this game. I would always play on the Ranked 1v1 matches in Loarderon (west). I was pretty set on getting 250 wins with human so that I could get the knight icon. Never made it though, only got about 119 I think.

I recently picked the game up again and have been playing with Orcs, using the offensive towers rush and mass Shaman's w/ bloodlust.

I really need a CD key though because I lost mine, I can't play online anymore

In Garena, there is a ranking system. So the more wins you have, the more experience and levels you get. players with higher levels gain access to rooms with higher levels. It's like this: Room X are for player who are lvl 50 above, so if you are only level 10, you don't have the privilege to enter it because it's only for players lvl 50 above.

I'm pretty sure the game is like $20 on Blizz Store. You should just buy it really.

I've been playing WC3 for years. I'd finish the game, then start it again the next year, and the next. I've finished it at least 3-4 times already. Was just playing a bit last night.

I've been through the campaign so many times but I don't think I've ever finished it. I'd keep having to restart because I reloaded the game onto different computers.

The good thing about WC3 is that once you've installed the game, you can move the folder the game is installed in onto a new computer. You can then play the game without reinstalling it from scratch. I've moved my Wc3 folder from an XP machine to a Windows 7 Machine, and can load the save game to start where I left off.

It is so convenient when game folders can be moved around without a need for the game to be reinstalled.

I did played online via Garena, but I forgot my account and Password 3 years ago.

I agree with you, that's what I did when I moved from xp to vista. I was surprised that all of my saved games were still in it.
