I just saw Akira, which was mind blowing. Do you guys know any others? I'm already gonna check out Summer Wars, and Grave of the Fireflys.

If you liked Akira then Ghost in the Shell 1&2 for sure.
I'm happy to have seen Grave of the fireflys, but once is enough probably. Still great.
(You want movies, right? Or Tv Shows too?)
Short on time, just off the top off my head Paprika, Nausaciaä, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Tales from Earthsea, Howl's Moving Castle, Perfect Blue.
Porco Rosso
For TV series, definitely Death Note.
the only anime movies i saw where akira, ghost in the shell and gundam wing endless waltz(pretty cool but not that good in overal)
and i recently watched the rebuild versions of neon genesis evangelion wich you can consider movies aswell
Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone and
Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance
these 2 are really watch worthy!
in the first one you can see why ramiel is so kick ass!
I heard really amazing things about Rebuild of Eva from a colleague who is hooked to them. I'm waiting for all four to come out, and I'll get them on blu-ray or whatever. It's really good to see a sadly-unfinished, but totally amazing anime get the love it truly deserves. Here's hoping the other two are just as good.
If you're cool with something a bit racier, you can check out Perfect Blue. It's a psychological thriller. It's pretty good, though has some pretty weird aspects to it. But hey, so did Akira haha.
If you mention the style you're most interested in, I'm sure people can narrow it down better. Many anime series have some OVAs to go with them as well. Some are more stand-alone than others though. If you want a good "fighting" one, Yu yu Hakusho has a good movie. Not sure how well-acquainted you need to be with the series, but it's an awesome series anyway. :)
A bit different but non the less brilliant: Persepolis and Waltz with Bashir
paprika its an epic movie about lucid dreams
Do any of the DBZ films count?
Ninja Scroll
Fist of the North Star
Cowboy Bebop
Sword of the Stranger
Afro Samurai (1&2)
Vampire Hunter D (1&2}
Street Fighter II: the Animated Movie
You're welcome. :>
HolyShitOhMyGodIHadNoIdeaThereWasACowboyBebopMovie ThankYouSoMuchOkayThxByeNow
I guess not then lol. Nice choice there.
Anything of Miyazaki is outstanding.
Like someone else said, Ghost in the shell 1 is good. I don't know about the second movie, though.
Definitely Paprika. It's visually beautiful, and the story has to do with dreaming, and it's just generally really trippy, and it has awesome music.
And it's fukken Hayao Miyazaki!
I loved princess mononoke. It was pretty good!
I've seen Howl's Moving Castle and Arashi no yoru ni. I loved both of those movies.
My best friend says that The Borrower Arriety is a very good one too.
Here's my list, even though I think most/all of them have been mentioned:
Grave of the Fireflies
Princess Mononoke
Blood: The Last Vampire
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
Cowboy Bebop
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind... actually it's been a long time since I watched this and I can't remember how good it was.
One I really like and rarely see mentioned is Doomed Megalopolis, a four-part miniseries from the early '90s. It's mythology-inspired horror/dark fantasy set in 20th century Tokyo.
Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle for sure :D I've haven't got the chance to see Ponyo, but I would only want to watch the Japanese version with English subtitles.
the complete FLCL has a runtime of only 150min. That's close to a movie, right?
So I vote for that.
Perfect combination of action and comedy, imho.
I heard "5 centimeters per second" was good, but I haven't had a good chance to watch it.
I do not believe that this concept exists.
Ponyo is a really, REALLY great movie! It may be meant for children, but you can really enjoy this movie at any age. Very imaginative!
Death Note is a really good series, short, but amazing. Then again, I don't watch a whole lot of anime.
Fullmetal Alchemist (鋼の錬金術師) and Durarara!! (デュラララ!!) The latter is less known but still amazing and, though it's short, the climactic episodes will really get you thinking about yourself. And FMA is just beast, both the original and the brotherhood series. The original movie is out in both english and japanese and the brotherhood movie was released in japan at the beginning of this month and should be out in english in 2012.
Note: I am not a fan of bleach or the other "major" animes. I prefer animes with a more philosophical perspective that really get you thinking (though I've only seen a dozen bleach episodes and i think there's like 300 so i can't judge too much)
