Nolan planning video game based on Inception

Apparently Nolan let on a short while ago that he felt the world of Inception was "a world where a lot of other stories could take place", and he plans to explore other possibilities through the medium of a video game.

"One thing we are looking at doing is developing a video game based on the world of the film, which has all kinds of ideas that you can't fit into a feature film. That's something we've been talking about and are looking at doing long-term, in a couple of years."

Based on what's been said, there's some chance it will be MMORPG-like in structure. It may not be around for a while (Nolan's currently working on a script for yet another Batman movie), but it certainly is an exciting proposal. I get the impression that Nolan plans to work closely on this, developing his vision to a different level. Any thoughts on what sorts of things could go into a game like this?

Until the game developer persuades him to hand all design and story line creation over to them and they rape it in to another shitty FPS clone. Except with more outrageous guns.

I think it would be cool though, if they made it so people could develop their own models etc. (obviously with approval to implement it to avoid hacking/glitches etc.)

Hopefully it'll be sandboxy so you can create your own dreamworld...it would be pretty awesome to have a major LDing game! (Although on second thought, there already is and you can play it for hours every night without taking any time out of your day. In the one I play, you're actually in the dream!!

The awesome thing about dreaming is it's a game where you can do anything you want, but you're actually in the game and there are no limitations.)

Generally I have the impression that games based on movies are just gonna fail hard no matter what, but this sounds different because of one specific thing:

"One thing we are looking at doing is developing a video game based on the world of the film, which has all kinds of ideas that you can't fit into a feature film."

I take that to mean that it won't revolve around the story of the movie, and maybe it wont even feature the characters, but only the universe. That I think could turn out really, really cool.

I think that's more what his intention was. He described the game as an outlet to explore the possibilities presented by the world of Inception; I don't think he has any intention of involving the storyline or characters of the film.

There is a difference between a videogame that follows the plot of a movie and a videogame based on a concept found in a movie.

If it simply trails along with the movie plot it will suck.

If it is loosely based on the concept of dream layers and dream scape creations like the core elements of inception it has the possiblity to be simply amazing.

A full sandbox game would be the coolest possible outcome. I for one am not a huge fan of RPGs. But this one could be cool.

The only RPG I've ever really loved was borderlands. If they don't make a sequel to that I will cry.
