      GlaringDream's Workbook: Meditation

I've been really wanting to do meditation for a while now, but I never got around to actually trying it for real yet. I've read quite a lot about meditation online and in books I've checked out at the library.

I want to learn to meditate because I think I need it. I'm worried and stressed a lot of the time and I lack self-confidence, so it will really help me. Also just the concept of meditation is amazing to me, so I really want to experience it and improve my self-awareness and concentration. If it helps me to lucid dream, that's just icing on the cake!

I'm really looking forward to the class!

Thanks for posting your workbook thread!

Meditation will help you if you're worried or stressed, it relaxes your body and mind and essentially lets you escape from everything else for a short time. To some people, meditation sounds boring, but when actually experiencing the increased concentration and awareness, it feels like nothing else. Enjoying your meditation is a great way to motivate yourself to keep at it.

This is the placeholder post for the practical assignment. I will get to posting it when I have a little more time!

Attempt #1: This happened a few days ago. I was alone in the house and it was quiet so I decided to try to meditate. I sat down on the floor in my room with my back against my bed. I crossed my legs and rested my hands on my knees. I focused on my breathing and my mind cleared in a matter of minutes. It was relaxing. However, I was soon interrupted when my family members came back home.

I'll post the next one soon!

That's good, you seem to have the right technique for it. I'll be posting the third lesson today, on focal meditation, so you can keep going with the other void meditation journals then do the focal meditation, or you can start on the focal meditation right away. Do whatever you think will benefit you the most .

It's really hard to get some good quiet time to try to meditate, my family's always around and they're practically always noisy.

However, I have one more attempt.

Attempt 2: This time I was in a chair. I laid back in the chair and rested my arms on my stomach. I rested peacefully and concentrated on my breathing. I was able to keep a clear mind and expel all thoughts from my head. Before I could go any deeper though, I was interrupted to eat dinner.
