DreamViews Podcast Suggestions

Have a suggestion for the DreamViews Podcast? Here's your chance to air your opinion.

We're always looking for new topics to discuss, if you have an idea leave it here and if we like it we might cover it on a future episode!

Guests is another thing we'd love to include into more of the episodes, so if you'd like to come onto an episode and have all the requirements (decent microphone, skype, time available(we usually record on Friday at around 7PM CST, but we can be somewhat flexible)), feel free to post here. Also if you have ideas for who you'd like to see on the podcast, we'd love to hear it!

Why not do a podcast for each of the induction techniques? One for DILD, MILD, WILD, etc. Have each one consist of an overview of what the techniques are, some tips, and also some experiences from those on the podcast and even those who post them on the forum. As it progresses you could even get into the more "beyond dreaming" aspects such as shared dreaming and OBEs, as well as some of the controversy behind them, though I would wait until you cover more of the essential LDing topics before you jump into the more complex and controversial aspects of the art.

Also, I'd be happy to be a guest on one ;)

We've been planning to do just this, actually. We'd like to get a guest who specialises in each induction technique also, so it's not just us talking about them.

Great to know you'd like to come on the podcast! I bet you'd be a great guest. We definitely want to get someone on for next week, we just need to figure out who'd be best suited. Although we don't necessarily just want to get people on for the sake of people coming on, rather we'd like people who are relevant to what we're discussing.

We actually asked Mancon to come on this week to talk about the TOTM/TOTY but he wasn't available and wasn't sure if his microphone would work. Maybe sometime in the future though!

I have some extensive experience in using lucidity to control nightmares and night terrors. I really like the podcast idea and I would love to be a guest!

You should do a episode about tastes of things, like foods that you've eaten in LDs and also about how things might taste. But wierd things like... Um mini black holes. Im just thinking this up right now it doesnt have to be that. haven't listened to the podcast yet I'm new but I might tonight.

Ophelia has experience with Deild right, thats all I really want. Make an episode centered on Deild, that would be really great. Call it like "Dv podcast, The Ultimate easy way to Lucid Dream: Deild" so you get loads of views.

Haha, October's going to be a crazy month it seems. Sounds great though, i'm sure Oreoboy can give us his insight too.

I would be happy to write up some kind of preliminary summary and submit it for examination. :) plus the further in the future the more time to plan...yezz.

I like the idea of covering different methods, but I would be interested in moving a little further out of the "core" of LDing (in terms of it just being an audio tutorial, since we have soooo many threads already enlightening us to the various methods) and I'm trying to think of ideas that encompass LDing, but in an accessible and entertaining light. Like having a conversation with a guest who doesn't believe in LDing. Or having like a Q&A part where users can submit basic or interesting questions (or hell, you can just mine other threads and talk about the more interesting responses)

I'd like to see something on the positive benefits of LDing and how it applies to every day life. Or even just an extended discussion about Dream Characters, how everyone has a different approach to what/who they are and how they react or treat DCs.

Methods of dreamfighting? OR, OR! Movies about dreaming, or dreaming in pop culture.

OpheliaBlue voice is like a angel! Oh, this is the suggestion thread, well i would say try to involve as many people in the podcast as you can. Maybe try to get a new person that's into lucid dreaming, and let him ask you guys a bunch of question. Just a random idea.

Hey! I think you guys should do a video on common beginner problems/barriers such as over thinking it, not enough confidence... Etc. and I would live to be a guest on it, I could really contribute to it :D!

I wonder if you could get Oreoboy1996 to guest? He has plenty of experience, and has been mentioned a lot in the podcasts. I'm pretty sure he has the equipment too. :D

Yeah we were playing with that idea when we were working on the first episode. RareCola had something that we both really liked, but I can't remember why we decided to black ball the idea. Something about getting it to work right, or time right, I forget.

Bummer dood. It might not work live but it can always be layered in later. I used to edit the audio for my churches podcast. Wasn't all that hard. But oh well just a thought. I still love the podcast.

How about different ways to break dryspells?

How about independent dream figures. ( the dream characters that act out from others, like stop you while you are flying) and also how the dream figures are conscious and say things that you would not expect, making their consciousness different.

I presume you are referring to Gateway to inner self. See I personally wouldn't want this on the podcast as it is a highly controversial topic, with no true basis or evidence to support it. Next to that, that was probably one of the worst chapter's of the book, he completely disregards the possibility that it is our brains stopping us from flying. There are two kind of expectations, ones you have consciously formulated and know of (E.g - the teacher is not in the room maybe she is out today) and unconscious expectations that form our view of life, schema I believe (E.g - its brown and big, its a boulder). So it is not possible to be fully aware of all your expectations in at any time, so when something happens that you were not focusing on it is referred to as unexpected but it might not have been (in the case of the guy who stopped waggoner flying, maybe his dream went that way because in his unconscious evalution of movies a guy always seems to take down whoever is flying around etc which was reflected into the dream)

Yes I was referring to the book. Anyway that may have been a possibility of it being reflected into the dream, but people try so hard to find there subconscious, which links to most dream figures. And our subconscious has got to be bigger than us expecting some object to say something, and it happening. If the subconscious was just that, there wouldn't be dream guides which do anything but what they're expected when you meet them. Basically what I am saying is why can't dream characters have a half separate consciousness if our subconscious does?

I just started listening to these and I really appreciate them! I finished episode three a minute ago, the sound quality was pretty good :) I love both of your voices, btw, even though that sounds really weird.

Forgive me if you've covered this stuff in the episodes I haven't listened to. More guests would be fun, like maybe get some different teachers and talk about their experiences, or a few newer people and talk about the problems they have been having and their experiences. That's one I the things I really love, hearing y'all's dreams an problems. Makes you a bit more relatable, knowing you guys have trouble sometimes too.

It might also be interesting to cover supplements and the neurochemistry behind dreaming and lucid dreaming.

And for some problems or questions, how can I stop my subc from comin up with reasons for why my rc is working? Or how can I combat insomnia? Or how to wild or deild when you stay awake after you've woken up?

Anyway, this whole deal is pretty awesome, nice work. I don't know what I'd say (not a ton to contribute I feel) but it would be interesting to be on the show.

Suggestion; interviewing staff members? In particularly the dream guides, as they're the more active members of the on-topic community. Questions like how did you get into lucid dreaming, what are your goals, how has it affected your life.

I've got some ideas: how about going into more detail about dream discussion in general, like lighting, weather, how sensations from the real world can seep into dreams and how that might affect a lucid dream, traveling in dreams, being able to recognize when false awakenings occur.

Also how about some podcasts on sleep and relaxation topics as well? I've been fascinated with dreaming in general, and would love to take things to the next level in dreams, like be more aware of how I get from point A to point B in a dream, be able to explore my dreamworld more, and be able to have a real conversation with a dream character.

Just recently discovered these amazing podcasts. Keep up the good work. I'm also loving this site as a whole as well.

-How to share the idea of lucid dreaming with people that are new to the whole concept. Ophelia, I know that you managed to get a bunch of your coworkers into lucid dreaming. It'd be cool if you could tell us how you did that and pass on any of your "lucid people skills". :)

-Ideas and tips for the best ways to manage DCs. Great opportunity to hear stories and experiences from you guys, including both success and failures.

-Your most enjoyable/highest-level/longest lucid dreams, details of what they were like, and your thoughts on how you achieved them.

-Teleportation ideas and experiences.

-Summoning ideas and experiences (both objects and DCs)

-Coverage of what's happening in the neurochemistry of sleep, dreaming, and lucid dreaming.

-More TotM or TotY minisodes.

-Any subject at all. There are tons of great ideas in the posts above this one. I miss the podcasts and I'd love to get some new episodes. :crying:

I'm loving the podcast so far guys keep up the good work! I listen every mornin and before I go to bed it helps keep my focus on the goals!

You know what would be wonderful? Having OpheliaBlue and RareCola doing a regular monthly DV podcast as usual, and having someone else doing monthly DV TotM mini-episodes. Two episodes per month, no one has to work too much (well, doing a podcast is a lot of work anyways), and if someone cannot make it one month we still have the other one.
By the way, I would love a podcast on how do the dreamguides and more experienced users in the forum lucid dream on a regular basis (schedules, techniques, timings, etc) That would be a lot of insight for us the newbies!

I was thinking of a suggestion.
What about a podcast on staying motivated with tips and tricks and personal accounts on how experienced users up a good spirit. Include mantras, reminders, activities and succes stories. Something us lucid dreamers can listen to when you start to lose motivation.

I agree. This is something that I think should be more important to us all since we lose a lot of people. It also might make more people (of the 400+ that watch us) sign up on here.

I apologize for the fact that I haven't actually listened to one of these podcasts all the way through even though I've really been wanting to. (What is wrong with me?!) lol.

Edit: I take my suggestion back because I just found the DropBox RSS feed and imported it to my podcast viewer on my phone.
So I'm gonna change my request, maybe place a link to the RSS in an obvious place so people can find it easily? I could just be blind and you already did :) I've been using Podcast Addict to listen to all sorts of stuff at work and it's so much easier for me to get updates that way.

Hey, guys! It looks like no-one's posted here in a while... Have you officially stopped making normal episodes on one subject and moved on to Q&A episodes? Well... if that's the case, could you just take this post as a Q&A episode question?

Anyway, you once made a suggestion in one of your episodes to do one on some of the less popular or well-known lucid dreaming techniques and methods, such as FILD and SSILD, if the idea got enough supporters, but I don't think you ended up doing that. Could you incorporate that subject into the next episode you do, please? I think it'd be interesting and I was personally looking forward to seeing an episode about the subject after I heard that bit. :)

I start listening to your podcasts and let me congratulate you for it.
However, I have a little sugestion to put a song on background. Someting relaxing, without lyrics and repetitive, but not one that will make you to feel sleepy. Kevin MacLeod has some nice free songs that can be used as background, like Sovereign by exemple.

I really wanted to make like an intro and outro tune for the podcasts. I'll ask CL next time we do one.

Hey guys I'm loving the podcasts, just started going through them all and I'm really enjoying it. Just a quick suggestion though, I'm glad you talk about all of the topics you've done so far but sometimes I just want to listen to a specific topic within the video but have to skip around to find the beginning of it. If it's not too much trouble maybe you could provide some links under the video that start it at the times when the topic changes, or even just text saying the time for each topic. That would be really helpful! :D

Good idea! So just say like "question 1 about stabilization starts at 5:32" like that?

Yeah just anything like that would be great to make it easier for people to jump right to a specific part of it. Thanks!

Pod-task! Assign a lucid task exclusively for podcast listeners, and give a shout out to the people who achieve it by the time you record the next one. Perhaps the task could relate to whatever topic you've just covered, like practising the skills you've been talking about.

For intro/outro music, there are some great royalty-free musical stings online. Some are free, some are like $2 to download. All different genres available.

And if you want suggestions for background music, list your genre and I'll give you some names! I listen to heeeaps of instrumental music when I'm reading/writing - some solo piano, some new-age relaxing stuff, and some more upbeat energetic music.

Really wanting to hear a podcast on SILD. Also, are there any talented LDers who have taken the "beyond dreams" approach to LD? That would be an interesting topic as well--what kind of spiritual experiences have people had. It could even be a kind of discussion--a member who is agnostic so to speak, or takes a materialist approach to dreams, and a member who feels there are objective experiences occurring--shared dreams, astral travel, etc. But really want to hear about SILD and the available supplements.

Beyond dreaming would be an interesting episode. I gather that Ophelia is a skeptic, Canis is somewhere in the middle... WakingNomad would be great, he's done podcast interviews before from the perspective of a true believer with lots of experience, but he's sick at the moment so I doubt he'd be up for it.
It's a topic that needs to be approached with caution, since it can put newbies off lucid dreaming if they think it's all lumped into the same category. But I think a debate format with open discussion would solve that problem nicely, as long as it's made clear that these are the opinions of the hosts, not the DV website as a whole.

Oh, I think that would be great. There has been a big swing towards scientific inquiry and materialism in the past few decades (following behind Stephen LaBerge's research), but shamans, yogis, priests, and other practitioners have viewed dreams as a gate to spiritual realms for thousands of years. I would really like to hear from members who feel they have traveled to different (perhaps objective) worlds, had shared dreams, or precognitive dreams, and the like. Astral debate!

I would definitely be interested in an episode on supplements! There are so many varied opinions, it might be good to take a poll to vote on the efficacy. And definitely get suggestions for which supplements to review prior to the interview. A few I would like to hear about:

Edit: Something else I think would be good to cover is the 'anti-supplement' side - not people who just think natural induction is more honourable or whatever, but the people who believe that taking supplements can actually reduce the body's ability to produce its own chemicals (eg. taking melatonin supplements.) And anyone who has reason to believe that natural induction methods alone are more effective (eg. does relying on supplements tend to reduce a person's efforts to practice daytime awareness, etc?)

At some point, I'd also love an episode on external aids, eg. audio cues, binaural beats / isochronic tones, Remee, and the NovaDreamer 2 (out soon!)

I quite liked the idea of non-spiritual DGs dream-experiences.

I see it too often that an awesome experience must = spiritual experience and I quite disagree with that, have had plenty of awesome experiences that don't relate to spirituality at all IMO.

Something I thought of that would be neat would be to have guests on for Ophelia and Canis to interview, like on a talk show. We have plenty of interesting members that this could be done with.

I've been meaning to suggest something like this. I would love to hear a podcast about DGs and DC friends, for some reason that's a topic that's not talked of as much. I think it's really interesting, it's definitely one of my main dream goals. Too bad we can't get Hyu to be a guest on an episode.

I think you would make a great interview subject, Sensei! I have met very few dreamers who are as dedicated and diligent as you, and I still don't understand how you fit it all in to your busy schedule - it's truly inspirational!

I remember talking extensively on podcasts with CL about how emotions drive the dream, and how reacting negatively to antagonistic DCs can worsen the situation. However, it was either Zoth or dutchraptor that said that was all BS and I can't remember why, I'll have to look it up. SO it would make an interesting debatable topic for the next podcast in my opinion.

Although, I have also had quite a few 'lucid nightmares' where nothing I did seemed to work, and my intentions seemed to have no effect on the dream. Original Poster has given me some good suggestions that I'll try in future, to do with projecting positive energy, specifically sympathy, towards hostile DCs.

I greatly respect the opinions of both Zoth and dutchraptor, I've had very deep philosophical conversations via PM with both of them, so I would love to hear their reasons for disagreeing!

I kinda remember some thread where me or Dutchraptor (or maybe both?) defended the position that pacifist interaction with DC was given too much value and (this part was my) that it went against detachment between your waking and lucid self....oh yeah, I remember now, was an interesting thread xD

I actually prefer the next bit though, you see the half assed rant was referring to people who disregard the possibility of active dream control and assume you must role play to gain the confidence to assert yourself in a dream. While the first half of the post was just my interpretation of the situation (though definitely based on science) the second half is the important one because it outlines the relatively simple method I use to control everything in my dream.

Most will never even try to reach the level at the right of the line. Not that it is necessarily more interesting, but it is certainly fulfilling and powerful. Based on my own experience it is certainly not necessary to ever bow down to anything in a dream if you do not wish too.

This part deserves highlight. I sometimes feel like detachment dream control (where essentially you do what you want) feels like playing a game with cheats: in the case of the dream, that's not necessarily bad, because you're not always trying to beat the game, you might just be aiming for a specific experience.
I found that the center of the spectrum (aka, your second rectangle) is more helpful towards exploration, or when the outcome of your dream goal isn't relevant, and the right side of the spectrum (last rectangle) is more useful when you're trying to achieve a specific result. I remember failing dream tasks precisely because I was in "let's play along mode" and I'd take ages to actually do what I wanted xD

Also, to add to what you said, I still think that giving too much in to your personal identity in a dream can sometimes screw things up: In a dream, no one is your father, sister, friend, enemy: they are merely projections created by a mind that serves you during your wake state. In a lucid dream, you're free to (re)create your self once again. Ignore this fact, and you'll have troubles with issues of morality and self-consciousness. This particular thread is something that should be encouraged to every beginner: you need to detach from your waking self in order to advance in dream control. I remember that our old DG leader (Matt) was pretty good at this: unfortunate would become the DC who tried to confront him ahaha xD And now I lost my train of thought 0o

Hmmm... Interesting bit here. I agree a lot with being able to assert dominance over a DC or just over objects in a dream and not having to follow any rules if you don't want to. I think that the most fun forms of dream control come from making rules and restrictions of your own. So in this way you are bowing down to your own rules. Full control to get your own limited control.

No middle ground? Why not?

Have you guys tried looking at extremes?

I always do that experiment in order to evaluate the middle ground, so here is a small extreme example:
"You kill and rape DCs in every dream in the most perverted way you can think of until the mind no longer cares about deaths; next step is you go on a killing rampage in waking because why not it isn't going to make you feel bad right?" This got several flaws obviously, like the dream world not being real and the lucid dreamer knowing this since they are lucid plus a bunch of other things. One would need to be mentally ill to begin with for this to pose a problem. Now onto the other extreme.

"Doing immoral actions in dreams will make you lose touch with moral actions in reality, even if it is in your mind; likewise even THINKING or READING about such immoral behaviour will make you an immoral person because it is still in your mind, in fact we should ban thoughts until they can be regulated properly" Yep, also wrong everywhere in there. If you argue that an event in the mind is immoral, then the extreme can also be argued. Then even as much as thinking it is wrong, but we all know that you can't know happy without ever being sad and viceversa. So if you aren't shown what is wrong how will you ever know it is wrong? We need also a mental illness here?

Anyway yeah, thats what I do in order to look at things in a less biased way.

Onto "level of dominance", I am of the idea that having absolute control is the most. boring. thing. ever. Seriously where is the fun in that? I enjoy dream fighting a lot, so when I had absolute power it was like "thinks the enemy dead, so it is" I could also predict their every move and make them do anything I wanted, as well as change the world in any way I wanted and yeah... no challenge, no being creative, no fun.

And so, I used that absolute power to properly weaken myself and then create a world where rules would exist at, without me being able to over-throw them. Growing in such a world to be able to defeat even the omni-me from the past is IMO much more fun and rewarding than just going around doing whatever I want to do because hells yeah!!!! Not to mention, it is fun to revisit worlds and then see how the DCs developed without me having to actively think in that lol

That is role-playing, but I am not sure where in the line that would fall at? Either way, its fun things to ponder about.

Woah, sorry if I made it sound like you have to bow down to DCs. All I ever remember saying was that if I had an aggressive DC (like a bear biting my hand), if I got all panicky or started battling him like crazy, it usually made it worse. Giving something in a lucid dream extra attention seemed to make it exist more. But if I wanted it to go away, I just would do something else and focus on something else, instead of giving him all the attention. I even did the same thing with blankets and sheets that wouldn't let me out of the bed. I think when Dezz quoted something about "respecting DCs because they are a part of you" I took it to mean all that ^^ what I said. Not that you have to be a slave to your subC in order to have any control in your LDs.

But yeah, this will be good stuff for the podcast! Lots of excellent view points here to bring up.

Naw not at all, although I do believe some people lean towards the extremes like that.

But lol I would totally eat the bear in that scenario and move on with the dream. Different ways of dealing with agressive DCs, I like that.

These pod casts were very enjoyable to listen too. The dream blindness really helped me out, cause It used to be a common problem due to me wearing a sleeping mask.

An idea for the podcasts if they return: take a few inutes, could be 3 or as much as 15 (it is a flexible option), to briefly recap some of the more interesting or active threads that have popped up on the forum since the last update. There are a lot of sub forums, and a lot of threads, and I don't always have time to go through them all every week or every month. Plus, sometimes the thread titles aren't always the best. It would be super helpful on the podcast is someone could just quickly describe what is happening. No need to go through everything said on the thread. For example, kit could be pointed out that "in sub forum X last week there was a thread on the ethics of actions in lucid dreams. Topics included things like, is having sex with a celebrity in your LD on purpose cheating on your spouse?"

That way, people who might be interested in the topic, but who don't have time to sift through all the threads or who did but missed something, could be alerted to the thread.

It would be useful and interesting for most listeners. And a great pro is that it could take as much or as little time as the podcast hosts want. There is flexibility in how many threads get pointed out each time (only 2 or 3 total, or 4 or 5 from each sub forum?), and also how much detail they go into.

I've been a Natural Lucid Dreamer almost my entire life, the first Lucid Dream that I could actually recall when I was young, was 2 days after my fourth Birthday!
I just recently found out that my Lucid Dreams are unique because before, I thought everyone could control and remember their dreams, but i guess i was wrong...
I have now formed myself into the habit of sleeping well, so i can promote my Lucid Dreams, and I've also started to write Dream Journals for my Lucid Dreams as-well.

I really want to master my Lucid Dreaming abilities and I believe that there is one thing that keeps getting in my way that I and maybe many people need help with and that is "Interpreting Lucid Dreams". I know most people think that your dreams are just there to keep your brain active or other stuff relating to that but I believe that our Dreams are trying to help us with our real life problems or our subconsciousness is trying to tell us something and give us advice. I've always wondered the purposes of my Lucid Dreams and I feel like I need to be able to Interpret my Dreams to fully Understand them.

I really like the dreamviews podcasts. Theres surprisingly not alot of audio stuff on lucid dreaming. One thing I'd love to hear your thoughts on, is how universal you think lucid dreaming is. I think everyone can probably learn to lucid dream with effort, yet people seem to have widely different natural talents for it. I've heard some comparrisons to sport and music, that some people can seem to progress with relatively little effort and some may never become as proficient but with effort they get somewhere with it. I'd be curious to hear your observations from the forum as to the progression you see. progression seems very non linear. Do you see many people steadly build up proficiency getting to a point of frequent stable lucid dreams? I know there are a lot of variables and even personality characteristics, how much time do people put in, do they have good sleep patterns, introspection skills, proprioception skills even...I have perhaps 50-80 ld's per year. many of these are quite short, (but there are also alot of v interesting sleep experiences that don't count as LD's). I'd like to get to a point of being able to LD almost at will and have high quality and stable lucids. I think its a relatively small number who accomplish that. It might help inspire to hear about the development of such proficiency...Thanks alot

I'd like to hear some lucid experiences. I like hearing about the crazy/weird things that happen other than flying. Maybe run through any totm challenges or goals you have done before.
