Freud describes a similar technique for lucid dreaming in his Interpretation of Dreams.

      - Drink a lot of water before retiring to bed.
      - Fall asleep
      - When you dream about water flowing, or drinking, etc., use it as a dream sign to know that you are dreaming.

This is becaue the feeling of the need to urinate has somatic manifestations in dream content.

The problem with this technique; potential to wet the bed.

      Enjoy!

Another problem --you are probably going to wake up right away and ruin your dream, because you have to go pee.

I guess it depends on how badly you've got to go. On many occasions I've waken up in the night and have felt the need to go but, since it might not be too bad, I've gone back to bed. So maybe a working balance can be found.

I had a dream just last night where I had to go...and ended out doing so in a plastic grocery bag at the front seat of my van! And it was just so natural that I would pee (and poop) in a plastic sack. It may be a good idea to do a reality check when going. Though for me, when I go in a dream, it's usually a very unusual place. Like a public facility with no stall doors, or in the van like last night. I may just do reality checks whenever I have to go anywhere besides home. I don't dream of my current home right now. Just past ones or other places. Maybe that will help me get back on the dreaming track. I've been slacking for some time, not being able to get on for around a year.

You lost the bet. I'm not talking about trying to sleep when your bladder is about to burst. If you have to go bad enough that you can't even rest then, obviously, go to the bathroom and relieve yourself.

You do realise that your body has mechanisms to prevent someone with normal bladder control from wetting their bed... right? If not, you'd wake up to a wet bed nearly every single morning.

A common dream sign is having to pee but not being able to find a restroom. This is a good time to do a RC and become lucid.

Which takes my thoughts to my baby who wakes up with a wet diaper every morning. She has parts that are still trying to work properly. I am very glad for the mechanisms in place you speak of, Oneironaught. I'd had dreams that I had to go, and when I woke up, I was surprised I did not wake up wet. (Unless I wake up in a sweat as I'd done. Then I begin to wonder about myself)

Wouldn't work for me. Every time I dreamt I was going to the loo I actually wet myself. It happened only twice, but boy, was that embarrassing!
