how can you have a dream sign

Alright, I have read LaBerge's book and have been on this forum for a while, and I just can't believe (or understand) that someone could have a dream sign... i mean our dreams are so random and abstract, so how could something i see in one of my dreams be a constant dream sign?

a lot of times more things happen repeatedly than you might think. thats why its good to keep a dream journal. after a while, you will start to see similarities and then you can find a dreamsign easier

As tim said, look for reoccuring themes, behaviours, or people/places/things.

The three most common dream signs are:

Teeth Falling out, Car problems, electrical malfunctions (light switches)
"i am the crumpled sheets of paper behind an artists' attempt at perfection"

There's a lot of recurring themes in my dreams. I mean not just common dream laws, but places, events and items which I commonly see in my dreams...

Dreamsigns don't necessarily have to be one precise act in themselves. You can categorize and generalize them for more chances of spotting them.

Like, I may have one dream about street racing, and another one about getting chased by police cars. I would bunch both into "Xtreme Car Stunts" or somethin like dat.

Yeah, I hardly ever have the exact same dreamsign happen again. I wouldn't rely on them exclusively for triggering lucidity, either. They are not as central.

I've always liked under water breathing.
I dream i'm under water and i'm running out of breath so I finaly take a breath of dream water and hey i can breath just fine
and that usualy gets me lucid
When beholding the tranquil beauty and brilliancy of the ocean's skin, one forgets the tiger heart that pants beneath it; and would not willingly remember that this velvet paw but conceals a remorseless fang

AirRick101 has a good point. Not all dream signs are as obvious as just having a similar event accur time and time agian. Through the study of your dream journal and knowing your own personality you can make some connections which may lead you to a dream sign. It is a tough way to induce Lucidity on its own, but can be done!

I can't recall any recurring dreamsigns. Hell, I can barely recall my dream.
But usually, I never care how impossible something is, I just go on with whatever I'm doing.
Also, how does recognizing a dreamsign help me have a LD when most of the time I cannot control my actions in my dream(almost like watching a movie of myself)?

That is just it. By recognizing a dream sign that you were conciously aware of while you were awake gives you a ticket into Lucidity. If you remember to recognize that you are dreamng next time you see that dream sign (whatever it is) then hopefully your concious mind can intervene while you are in a dream.
+ When and if you do have a dream sign, it works better if you do a reality check every time you see it while your awake.
See the dream sign and prove to yourself you are not in a dream. By doing that there is more of a chance when that particular sign comes up in a dream you will realize this and become aware.

I just went through my dream diary and have found one Dominant thing, Big Brother, great, so my dream sign is my my best tv show, so if i watch it for now on i will have to keep asking "Dai Marco really do that?" or "Did Kitten really get kicked out?"...

Great, what am i going yo do when Big Brother is over? Develop a new dream sign?

Well, the good news is you can have more than one dream sign! And perhaps Big Brother is a recurring theme now because you watch it a lot. For instance, I watch/read Harry Potter all the time, so I dream about it alot. But I've been dreaming about tornados for over 11 years. So that's a bit more reliable.

What about nightmares? Have any recurring bad dreams?
