I used to have dreams of falling down, or jumping off, stairs, and landing safely at the bottom, until I eventually analysed why I had such dreams and put it down to a falling down the stairs experience when I was very young, which led to a traumatic experience in hospital, and deduced that my unconscious mind must have still been troubled by this, coupled with a Freudian wishs to be able to fall down stairs without coming to any harm. In your case, of course, you want the dream to recur, so that you can have a DILD.

When I was 16 and kept a dream journal, my dream sign was water. More than half of my dreams would involve bodies of water: giant swimming pools, numerous hot tubs in a strange room, rivers, lakes, the middle of a black ocean with raging waves ... I never actually learned to do a reality check whenever I saw water. EDIT: Odd, Laretta has the same one.

I may discover more dream signs as I continue my dream journal, and it seems water is no longer abundant in my dreams. But as of now, about half my dreams seem to involve my boyfriend. He lives two states away, and we only visit every few months. Although I try to remind myself to do a reality check next time I see him, I rarely get the opportunity to practice it in waking life.

EDIT: Thinking more, I suppose a lot of my dreams are game-like, or at least remind me of games once I wake up. I also tend to have dreams centered around some situation in whatever book I'm reading. Though I wouldn't consider these dreams signs, because they aren't specific enough. I never realize at the time that I'm getting this situation from the game or book.

Its weird, a lot of people have water in all there dreams like me. I already posted water as my dream sign because its usually always in my dream, but it seems that's its the same for others. I think its because I always see water in the day. I live next to a bay and have lagoons all around my city, so I'm constantly seeing water.

The ones I can absolutely guarantee on a weekly basis are:

1. Shops (5 dreams this week)

2. Assorted people from TV/Books/Films (4 dreams this week)


Others I see with increasing regularity

1. Randel (my favourite DC) (3 dreams this week)

i have a weird dream sign that is sometimes mostly in my dreams its a zombie thing with tenticales hidden in every backround the sad thing is i cant lucid dream so i just see him and nothing happens lol

-one of my brothers is always elementary school aged even though he's in his 20's
-my dog is alive
-I can fly
-seeing/interacting with people from my youth
-my old neighbourhood has a dream version layout different from the real world
-military theme, conflict/surviving/war/fighting/invasion (whether it be modern/fantasy/scifi)
-abandoned/lost/wandering/directionless in military uniform
-urban-desert environment

Dunno if these count as signs, I have recurring themes:

-I'm back working at places where I'm no longer employed.
-My teeth get smashed or broken

More common:
- The weather changes suddenly or is not lifelike, sometimes snowing while warm outside.
- Finger count is incorrect, usually 7-10 fingers on each hand.
- Mirror produces unpredictable results.
- Malfunctioning mechanical or electronic equipment.
- A picture, clock, sign, or something on a wall that changes every time I look at it.

Less common:
- Not being able to remember how I got where I am.
- Being naked at work, school, or a public place.
- Small buildings with vast, nearly endless interiors.
- Gravity anomalies, usually moon gravity.
- An annoying DC, asking me if I'm dreaming over and over again.

Freddy Krueger and anything associated (especially the theme music, that real atmospheric, almost Twin Peaks sounding theme). I went from a group of friends playing kickball in a sunny park, to hearing that music, and instantly everything went dark and I was in a house. I knew pretty quickly after that that I was dreaming.

so far they're not very peculiar.

Being in a car/driving. (this used to be a big one in the months before I got my license, I was always lost or late to something)
Talking about dreams. Happens so much where I go from one dream to another and start telling DCs about it then wake up and facepalm, then I added it to my dreamsign list.

Mine is wandering around lost in an interior setting. It could be a hotel, the sewers, a starship, ancient ruins, it doesn't matter the exact form. This is often accompanied by a sense of an illogical architecture - stories that are missing or inaccessible, halls or elevators that go to places that don't make sense, different kinds of settings in different areas, etc. In addition, there's sometimes a sense of unknown purpose... I'm trying to find (or sometimes flee from) someone or something but I usually can't quite remember what or why -- but it seems important. This isn't like a specific recurring dream or anything, but many dreams will incorporate various elements of it.

Sometimes, the urgency to act for an unknown purpose in an unfamiliar and illogical setting can lead to a sense of confusion, frustration, and even a sort of mental claustrophobia. In fact, as a software developer, it's very similar to the feeling I get when trying to debug an elusive problem in a piece of messy code. Sometimes I'll use this feeling as an excuse to practice an RC. I'll also RC while walking up and down the halls in the building complex where I work.

Another one for me:
-I'm usually indoors (or in an enclosed area like a bus), and the room is often dark.

-Being in church
-Being in a mall
-Old Friends

mine are rockstars and oceans

teeth falling out. And alien creatures, but I never get lucid from those.

One dream sign and at the same time reality check, which never fails to make me lucid is me jumping out of my apartment window. Often even thinking about jumping out of window makes me lucid. I remember one dream where I was standing in my room next to window, I tried touching it to feel the surface, I looked outside and wondered if it was a dream or not and if should jump. And then it hit me - "wait i am standing by a window in the middle of the night seriously considering jumping out. It's definitely a dream!". So I jumped... and broke my both legs, but to my own amazement I managed to stand up like nothing happened. And then I LDed. Other dream signs, but not as frequent are: lights that don't work, teeth falling out, me being in some unknown big city.

I only have one repeating dream sign, but it doesn't show up very often. I've only used it to become lucid once, and it hasn't shown up since.
