EDIT: I had some things listed here but only because I misunderstood the concept of "dream signs." Sorry - I'm a noob!

I just added another dream sign to my list today. Urinating. Seriously...

It doesn't happen all that often to me, but we probably all have those dreams of having to urinate. But better than that, we all also urinate regularly throughout the day, ensuring a number of reality checks. So I may not get too many chances to do this RC in a dream, but at least it'll keep me thinking about dreams throughout the day every day.

Be careful about peeing in dreams, my sister (when she was 12) was dreaming she was peing but in real life she was actually wetting the bed

Well, I finally figured out that I had two dream signs:

First Dreamsign-Being in school. Hard to realize this sign because when I am in a school in my dream, I'm usually doing alot of walking and talking to notice it.

Second Dreamsign-Actually being in a video game world. Usually, I'm in some kind of bright, visually stunning world that seems out of the ordinary, and then it all starts to seem like i'm actually in a game.(It's sorta hard to explain )

I haven't been able to become lucid off of the signs yet because I just noticed them after reviewing my dreams in my journal a few days back, but hopefully someday soon, i'll notice it when they appear in my dream.

hmm..I dont know....I wouldnt go around and call something a dream sign if it didnt help you in away to become lucid. =X

dreams have themes, and I think a lot of you are describing a dream theme and not a dream sign.

school is a common dream theme, your bound to have dozens of dreams about school and non existant exams. we spent so many years of our youth in school, the memories of school are solid.

bodily functions, like urinating and defecating, and toilets are a dream theme. and even though a lot of people dont like to admit theyve had a dream about taking a dump - those dreams happen to a lot of people. and they are very symbolic about releasing something bad - like letting out stress or bad emotions thats building inside of you. not good to hold in wastes, gotta let it out

being chased by something or being on the run is an age old dream theme. being on the run from the FBI, Men in Black or monsters can bring some real silly dream experiences that let you know you ARE dreaming. but.....this dream theme is symbolic about, well just that...running away. and when a dream is really symbolic it really forces you to play along. even if you become lucid, you might find yourself still compelled to run

im still new to dream signs, or at least the definition of it. but im not new to dream themes.

looking at your journal for things that happen again and again is how you find a theme. a theme helps you understand how your dreams relate to the waking world. how your dream relates to your life!

Example. Every now and then I have a dream about a trip, where to doesnt matter. Before I can get to take the trip, I panic and continously repack my luggage, hours pass in a matter of minutes and Ive missed the cab for the airport. or if I do get to get to the airport I become overwhelmed and I get lost. Once at the airport I sat down and cried I wasn't ready. Ready for what? Youll find dreams with strong themes arent very lucid. Last I had this dream I finally made it on the airplane. I felt the rush of the airplane as it took off..frightening..and thrilling!

Im on that airplane right now. The ride? Is college. The destination? Adulthood! Frightening stuff!

Anyways..thats a dream theme, a sign happens often like a theme - but its very different. a sign in my opinion affects you in a dream. it makes you do something you normally wouldnt, like jumping off a building casually.

a sign can also be something out of place that grabs your attention, and snaps you out of a mundane dream. like a door upside down, youre just compelled to look at it, and question..what happens if you open it?

themes are symbolic, and signs are fun!

I have a few, but I never remember to do a reality check. My most common RC is a man an old man in my dreams. I don't know who he is, but he is in nearly every singel one of my dreams. He's just an old guy that smiles at me. Nothing creepy... very warming, relaxing, and inviting.

The other thats fairly common is the absence of "air". I'll find myself not breathing at all at times.

I think I'm safe to say that "dorm rooms" are my new dream sign. I've had a dorm-room experience in half my dreams these last couple of weeks even though school is out. Last night I dreamed that I headed back to school and I was thinking, "Man, this summer went by fast!"

      ...watch, it'll change tonight.

Being back in the Marines is one of my most common dream signs. Yet it has never made me Lucid. I have been out for 7 years now, but I still have about 1 a week involving me in the Marines.

The only dream sign that I have had multiple Lucid's *multiple meaning 2.... with is a mirror. I tend to notice that something is not quite right with the mirror. The first time, I noticed that everything was very fuzzy in the reflection and I couldn't see it. So I stared at it and bam, I became Lucid. The second one, I was looking at my reflection in the mirror and I was trying to get a better look and noticed that my reflection was not moving the same way that I was, again... bam.

So, most common dream sign is the Marine Corps, most usefull is my reflection.

Even though I've only kept a DC for a short while, I've already noticed that a major sign is getting lucky with women. Very, very very lucky. Oh happy day.

juroara: thank you for your post. I think that this is interesting. I never thought about themes and signs. as I usually become lucid when I realize that I've done something I wouldn't normally do. (can be something really stupid...well it can be for example that I sit down crosslegged. I never do that I kneel...or any thought. for example I see a movie in the dream and I start commenting it and then I realize that the film was not released yet..etc)

But you know you made me think of another thing. I've read a post about Freddy on the forum here....and actually I know that I dream when I have a scar on my abdomen. I don't have it in real life but I always have it in dreams and that's kind of thing which makes me start doubting the reality. But I usually need more to fully wake up. I've become quite accustumed to that scar...

Well, as my luck would have it, I haven't had a "dorm room" dream since I posted in here last. Stupid, fickle subconscious...

Most of my dreams consist of me going to school and talking to old friends, which I usually don't talk to anymore. I also have a few strange dreams where the dream alternates between a scenario which is possible and a video game setting. Most of my dreams either take place at home with my family or in school with old friends, and rarely current friends, but they seldom take place in other areas. I'm actually getting bord of the same old setting of my dreams, and I always hope that they will begin in a new, undiscovered area.

I seem to cause floods while dreaming, i have no idea why, it just happens.
I seem to frequently Teleport also, and my dad, who is dead, visit me all the time in my dreams.
So, that is my Dreamsigns at the moment.

I have posted on this thread before mentioning how marijuana is a possible dreamsign for me. I have come to realize that Marijuana is a definite dreamsign. I don't know why, but I am facinated with the effects of drugs in dreams, especially when your mind does not know what it feels like to actually do the drug you are experimenting with, so it makes you feel like what you think it would feel like in real life, even if you have never put any though into it.

My dreamsigns are trains. I dreamt about them almost every night in the last five years. Not without cause, because I used to take them every day during that time. Now I take them only once in a while but they still appear in my dreams a lot.
So this is definitely MY dreamsign, to say the least. But because of my extreme familiarity with it, it's a hard task for me to recognize it in my dreams and therefore I probably can't utilize it to gain lucidity. Maybe I have to find a secondary dream sign...

My dreamsign appears to be my parents. I have lived pretty far from them ever since 2000 when I left NY to attend college in Chicago, but I end up at home with them (or in random other places) quite a bit in my dreams, aparrently.

Edit 7/9 - friends from high school, and generally, people from my hometown as well.

      7/13 - carnivals/amusment park settings
