Sound Activated Tape Recorder

I'd really recommend a sound or voice activated tape recorder. I got a new tape recorder recently. The Sony ICD-UX570. It's set to sound activated (not voice activated, though), so I just start recording when I get to bed, and leave it on for the night. It automatically pauses when it detects silence, and then when it detects sound it automatically starts recording again.

So I can just lay there. When I wake up from a dream, I just lay there. I don't have to move at all, except my lips. I just lay there and speak the dream.

So for 10 hours or so of sleep, the recording ends up being about 30-40 mins. So most of that is semi-silences. But I can play it in PotPlayer at 3x the speed. During the silent moments I write down dream signs from the previous night and stuff.

You can even play the recorder with the voice writer on word and you'll have the entire thing written without doing anything i think:rolllaugh:

How do you do that? Do you have to let the file play from beginning to end or do you just pop the mp3 file in and it pops out as a text file? I'd love to have the latter happen especially, especially when my dream recall gets so great that I simply won't have time to write all my dreams by longhand. But for now, I'm continuing writing longhand.

you need to play the whole thing sadly. You can in theory do what you want on a converter, as its a selectable format, but it may not work. I would try it anyway, it might work. https://www.audiotype.org/en/convert/mp3-to-text/

Can you post the name of your device so I can look it up? Edit: OOps, I am blind.

It sounds cool, especially when used in combination with long hand, because let's face it. We all get lazy sometimes (especially morning dreams for me, where I swear I will remember everything without writing it down :laughtillhurts:).

My only issue when I have used voice recording is that I cannot understand my speech half the time when playing it back. :uhm:

Glad you found out the name of it. If you do decide to buy it, you just turn the VOR to on before recording. And it'll stay on from then on (unless you turn it off again).

Yeah, I try to speak loud and clear. For me, it's not a problem. But for others I suppose it can be.

:rolllaugh:I was expecting something worse tbh. seems like you will need to play the whole thing on word, its the only one i have found that works 90%. If you dont have word you can use the online version which is free or just keep journaling longhand. If its too demading you may type/record the common dreams and only write the ones that you want to remember the most maybe.

Can you download Word? How does it work? Can you play the mp3 file internally from beginning to end? Or do you have to leave the tape recorder by the mic and let the mic pick up the tape recorder's file?

just search office 365 log in. Create an acc and log in. On word you have an icon of a mic on the right upper part, click it and play the record while active. Its pretty accurate but not perfect.

Thanks so much. I really appreciate it. This is a great find. It's not so amazing for analyzing my mp3, but when I speak my handwritten dream into the mic with my voice, the results are quite accurate. I'll be using this again. :) :goodjob2:

I use an Android phone, so I just looked in PlayStore to see if there were any voice activated recorder apps. I chose the one that was most frequently downloaded, and installed it. It works fine. Free, with a paid ad-free version, which I'll probably get sooner or later. It catches a few snores and other noises, although my room is quite quiet, but it's not a problem.
