      Botched WILD Attempt

I went to bed at 12.30am and woke up at 6.45am. I did a WBTB then attempted to WILD. I ended up in a nonlucid dream. It had been going for a while. I was sitting on a couch in a room with a few people around. I had been there a while and a few boring-ish things had been happening.

Suddenly I looked down and there was a book on my lap and I could see an actual flame inside the book. I immediately recognized that it was a dream image and not real. However, before I could do a reality check I experienced a distinct shift in consciousness. This led me to believe that I had woken up and I came to the conclusion that I had been falling asleep and that the image was hypnagogic. I held my hand out and looked at it. My hand looked completely normal. So, believing I was now awake, I decided to try and have a WILD (wake initiated lucid dream).

I then quickly thought about what scene to try and incubate. I decided to keep it simple and stay in the same room I was currently in but make the walls purple so I'd recognize when I'd transitioned into a dream. I lifted my arm again to check my hand again and it was invisible. 'Great' I thought 'I'm doing well here... getting close...' I lay there on the couch trying to do this for about 30 seconds.

I then woke up for real and realized I'd been dreaming all along! Ha ha

PS I had to edit this because I got told off by spaceexplorer on msn for saying that it's a shame I didn't succeed with my attempt to WILD within my dream. He says I couldn't have had a WILD because I was already asleep so it would have been a DILD! I think he's just snouty because even though he's had hundreds of WILDs from real life and I've only had two, he's never had a WILD from inside a dream and I almost have now

Lol, that sucks. I hate when stuff like that happens. But at least you were that close to a full blown Lucid.

Yeah, I guess technically WILDing in a dream is not quite the same. But if you do manage to WILD into a new scene fully Lucid. It would be a real similar experience. And of course, the end result is that your Lucid! That's the goal in any case, regardless of how it's done.

I'm taking off Monday morning for a nine day vacation. So if you don't see me on for a while that's why. But if I have any good Lucids before I leave I'll be posting them. Hopefully I'll come back with some good ones too.

Yes, but the major problem with DEILD is that I have to choose between voice recording the dream I've just woken from (which wakes me up too much to be able to easily drift back to sleep) OR going straight back to sleep which risks losing the memory of my prior dream, which if it was a lucid I don't want to do.

Whenever I wake up from a lucid dream I always record it. Sometimes I manage to get back to sleep and have another one but usually I'm too much awake and too excited to get back to sleep!

Wow, I just read a handful of your first dreams, they're really amazing. It's great how much people can learn from other people's LD experiences.

      Thanks a lot for sharing.

      Nonlucid with failed RT

It's a pleasure, moiguerrero! I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it!

Well, unfortunately I'm in a bit of a dry spell at the moment. I'm having a few near misses but that's about it.

I had an interesting and very vivid nonlucid dream last night where I was in a department store and looking at two jars of face cream. The bigger jar was labeled 120g and the smaller jar 150g. I stood there for quite a while wondering how this could be but eventually decided the manufacturer must have just made a mistake.

Then I saw a new fragrance on display. I went over, picked it up and sniffed the nozzle on the bottle and OMG it was the most exquisite and sweet smelling floral fragrance I have ever smelled! I immediately decided to buy it even though I already own heaps of fragrance. It was just sooooo nice! I then sprayed it down my top (which was the same top I'd had on that day in RL) and also onto my left wrist. (I only wish my watch had been on my wrist as I'd have had to look at it to move along my arm before spraying the fragrance.)

Then I was in a room with a few people I work with. I was talking to them and I found myself thinking about a particular colleague who wasn't there 'R'. No sooner had I thought about her when she walked into the room. I thought to myself that it was the kind of thing that happened in dreams and I should do a reality test. Unfortunately I did look at my watch but I didn't process it properly as I was too distracted thinking about how amazingly dreamlike it was that R walked in at that moment

      Then I woke up.

Well it's good that your getting that close all the time. It just means that if you keep pushing it you will start getting more Lucids again in no time.

The other night I was looking at my watch in a dream and it was acting weird. I came close to Lucidity, but I just thought the battery was dead. I kept smacking the watch to try and make it work right.

In another dream the same night, I was imagining what I would do if this was a dream. then I woke up and was like.

Then the same night again, I was stressing out having a really scary dream. but then I told myself that when I'm about to be killed I will just become Lucid, and it will be Ok. Then I just relaxed, but didn't become Lucid lol.

      Unbelievably Realistic Almost-Lucid Dream!

I had a lot of red wine last night and went to bed at around 11.30pm. I woke up at 4.15am and phoned spaceexplorer for a chat. He told me I should attempt a WILD because I’d be REM deprived from the alcohol. I was very dubious having not got lucid for nearly a month but tried half-heartedly anyway. Actually that’s a lie. My effort was nothing short of abysmal. I got up, went to the loo, looked at my watch twice then lay in bed fantasizing about sex for half an hour. I then looked at the clock. It was 5am. I thought to myself that I should be making more effort to WILD before dropping straight to sleep.

Next thing I know I’m in a nonlucid dream. I’m downstairs fiddling with my mobile phone. I accidentally phone my partner and am annoyed with myself coz I think it will wake him up. Suddenly he’s there beside me in the kitchen fully dressed. I comment “oh I didn’t know you were up”.

Next thing I’m at work, scrubbed in the middle of an operation. I’m passing instruments to the surgeon and everything seems normal until suddenly I look into the rubbish bag clipped to the side of my trolley and I notice a plastic ruler in it that is not one of the sterile ones we use. I immediately ask everyone “who put this ruler into my bag? You can’t do that.” An anaesthetic technician (R) is standing at the end of the operating table looking guilty. Suddenly I see that the surgeon has picked up the ruler and is using it! I immediately say “Mr B. stop! I don’t think that ruler is sterile”. I look back into the bag and sure enough the ruler is gone. I figure it is really weird that the surgeon has helped himself to something out of my rubbish bag like that.

I start to wonder if I’m dreaming. I look at the diathermy machine and some staff members are spreading large street maps all over it. 'Now that is really weird' I think. 'Very very suspicious indeed'. I look at the digital display on the machine. It reads 41. I look away and back again and it reads 17. It keeps changing before my eyes. At this point I’m wondering how on earth all this weird stuff can be happening because there is just no way I can be dreaming. I remember getting up and coming to work and I feel like I’ve been there all morning. I start to freak out a bit.

I can’t figure out if I’m awake or dreaming. I think to myself that it had to be more or less impossible for this to be a dream and that if it was it would be the most monumentally realistic dream I’d ever had and that spaceexplorer would have been completely right. I think about pretending to be sick. I know I will sound mentally ill if I say “I’m sorry, but I can’t figure out if this is real life or a dream” so instead I consider saying “I’m sorry, I’m not feeling well”. I am so completely confused. I am thinking how I will absolutely not believe it if I suddenly find myself waking up from this and I’m in my bed. Then…

I wake up from it and I’m in my bed.

The shift was incredible. It was like teleporting. I just couldn’t believe it. I felt no more awake or real when I ‘moved’ to my bed because there was no change in my level of consciousness at all. If only I'd become properly lucid!

      Holy crap, that is crazy!!?

Yet another piece of evidence supporting the truth that no matter how real it seems, no matter how 100% certain we are that we're awake, we should still check,

      i.e.

      don't.........be..............so..............sure .

anyway, really awesome. (and also, I'm sure people have said this before on here, but just in case they haven't I wanted to say that you're a really good writer. thoroughly enjoyable. )

Haha! Was crazy alright. Certainly I thought I was going crazy. The problem is, I just can't afford to be wrong when I'm at work. If I ever walked out of the operating room in the middle of an operation proclaiming "Hey everyone this is just a dream so I'll be off now..." then people really would think I'd gone loop-de-loop. I could actually lose my job for doing that

Anyway, thanks for the compliment. I do enjoy writing and try to make the stories sound exciting for the people following my journal to read

cool dream! yeah those super-real dreams where you just aren't sure can be some of the most impressive. I find those in particular edify us on our tenuous grasp on reality, or indeed on what is real.

Yeah it was insane how real this dream was. I stood there thinking 'I cannot possibly be lying in bed right now'.

I said to spaceex on the phone afterwards that there was pretty much nothing that could have convinced me it was a dream because it was so unbelievably real. I honestly think that even if Elvis Priestley had appeared at the window six stories high wearing nothing but a pink frilly G-string and covered in whipped cream I still wouldn't have been convinced!

      Money on the Floor

Well I managed to get lucid last night but as usual of late it only lasted about ten seconds. It seems apple juice may indeed be the way to go. I went to bed just after 9pm having drunk a glass of Greenway’s apple juice with dinner. I woke up at 4am having had very clear, long dreams. It’s actually a huge shame I hadn’t become lucid during one dream in particular where a guy tried to attack me through the window of a car (I was sitting in the back seat). It would have been fantastic to get out of the car and retaliate!

Anyway, I got up briefly at 4am then went BTB and made a reasonably good attempt to WILD using the counting method. I was hoping to get to Caradon’s cabin in the woods but ended up nonlucid beside the ticket counter at a cinema instead.

My mum was buying movie tickets and I heard her drop some money. I casually looked down and spied a $2 coin on the floor. The carpet was typical of movie theatres – old and manky. Nevertheless I found myself down on my hands and knees to pick it up. A little boy of about six years old was trying to race me to it and although I was a little uncoordinated I beat him and got the coin. Then I saw another coin not far away so I picked that up as well. Then I started finding more. I didn’t think it was strange, I simply assumed she’d dropped a few coins which is common for people to do. However I should have realized something wasn’t right because I started finding five cent coins which were phased out of circulation a couple of years ago!

The little boy wasn’t managing to find any coins and was a bit upset so I planned to give him some when I stood up. I thought to myself how I’ve always been good at finding things. Then I just happened to look at my watch to check the time and… my watch was completely different! For a second I thought ‘Hey, where’s my Watchminder?’ Then I twigged ‘I think I’m dreaming right now’. I stood up and started walking. I then remembered the little boy so I turned around and offered him all the coins in my hand but he was no longer interested. Unfortunately for some reason I just didn’t have the mental energy to keep myself in the dream. As ironic as it sounds I felt too tired to continue dreaming so I let myself wake up. It must be the first time in history someone has woken themselves up because they are too tired to sleep! Nuts

      Smile Lego

Well I finally got lucid again properly for the first time since May 25th for which I’ve only got myself to blame. I’ve just been too lazy to give it the attention required really. I have only kept up a baseline level of reality checking and haven’t thought about my dream signs or lucid goals in weeks let alone done a wake back to bed or WILD attempt.

Anyway, I woke up this morning at 7.15am and got up to do a couple of things. I only went back to bed to warm up but ended up inadvertently drifting back to sleep. Before doing so I did glance at my watch once thinking it was the very least I could do if I wanted even a snowball’s chance at a lucid. I then floated off to sleep thinking ‘this lucid dreaming thing really isn’t happening for me anymore’

Next thing I know I’m up out of bed and I'm walking through to where my computer is to switch it on. However much to my annoyance somebody has messed with my computer bigtime. There’s all these weird things plugged into it and the monitor has been shifted to a ridiculous position where I can only see the top half of it. I start trying to get everything back to the way it was. After a short while I think ‘Damn, I should have done a reality test to this. I’ve taken far too long about it. If I was dreaming I would have moved on by now. Oh well, I’ll do one anyway even though it’s really too late to say I got this cue. I’m going to have to sharpen up my reality testing though.’

I look at my watch. The numbers are going completely mental. For a split second I think ‘wtf is my watch up to now? Hang on a minute. I am NOT going to be fooled yet again. My watch never does that.’ I look away and back a couple of times and the numbers are different. Bingo! ‘Right’ I think to myself, ‘I’m dreaming. It’s a fact. And I’m not entering any debate with my subconscious about it. I am not gonna be foiled this time’.

I then walk over to the top of the stairwell with the plan to jump over the edge of the railing to the ground floor. I hesitate for a second then tell myself ‘don’t worry, like they say on dreamviews, if you’re not sure then you will be dreaming’. I then jump off but because I’m nervous I don’t let go properly and my arms kind of stretch. When I land on the ground I think to myself that to keep a hold with one’s hands is a good safe way to jump off something high if you’re not completely certain whether or not you’re dreaming.

I’m now in a strange long hallway that is not my RL house. I start walking. I’m wandering around thinking how I can’t remember a single lucid goal because I haven't thought about them for so long. The dreamscape is not at all vivid and I’m having a bit of trouble seeing clearly. I decide to try a wall flip even though last time it woke me up. I run down the hallway and up the wall at the end of it and launch myself into the flip. I’m spinning in midair and sensing I’m in grave danger of waking up so I focus really hard on landing, and then I do, nice and softly.

I then walk into a large room. There is a desk with a female receptionist and a couple of other people standing nearby. There are some large boxes of Lego on the floor. I’m feeling like I just need to do something so I’ve got something to write about rather than just ambling around in dreamworld like a useless lucid brain, so I wave my arms at the boxes of lego in typical spell-casting fashion at the same time calling out in an authoritative voice, “Lego! I command you to make yourself into something interesting for me!” I’m thinking this is really rather lame and unexciting but it’s better than nothing. I look away for a few seconds then look back. The Lego has assembled itself into a large yellow structure with little Lego people all over it. I look at it and think ‘hmmm that’s kind of cool’ then keep walking.

As I’m walking I decide I want to look at my watch again just to see it going mental but my watch has completely disappeared from my wrist. I find this annoying but then I put my right hand where my watch should be and I can feel it even though it’s invisible. I wonder if I’m touching my watch in RL in bed. Then I see a waiting room with a young guy of about twenty or thirty-something and two middle-aged women sitting in it. I walk into it and go up to the guy and for some stupid unplanned reason ask “will you marry me?” He looks at me like I’m a nutter and says “no” so I say “oh ok then” and start to walk away. Then he jumps up and says something about wanting to change his mind. I casually call out not to worry that I’m dreaming and just wanted to do something weird. I then feel like I should be doing really crazy stuff that I can’t do in RL. I see a kitchen and the thought occurs to me to get a knife and stab some people but I don’t think I have it in me so decide not to. Then I wake up.

congrats on having a good Lucid again! I hope it was fun enough to re energize your motivation. The way you got Lucid sounded similar to what happened to me last night. only yours lasted longer.

      Nice work.

Wink WILDed into My Personal Fantasy Dream!

      Friday 10th July 2009

I woke up this morning at 6:30am with great recall as usual. I’d had a moderately interesting nonlucid dream about being in a wave pool at the end of which I’d thought I should do a RT immediately before awakening. I then did a WBTB during which I looked out my window and saw the most beautiful sunrise.

I then drifted back to sleep and had another nonlucid dream during which I missed quite a few dream cues. I drifted into the waking world, realized I’d missed these cues and then started thinking about a cool fantasy of mine. Next thing I knew I realized I was so close to sleep that I became determined to incubate around me the dreamscape in which my fantasy was set. I slowly did this successfully and it was awesome!

The fantasy is pretty personal (<--- spot the euphemism for ‘embarrassing’) but let’s just say it involved me, a dangerous situation, a big hunky heroic male and… sex!!! Ha ha! It was so cool because I knew it was a dream but I didn’t let on and just “let the dream winds blow” which was a goal of mine that stemmed from a quote from Caradon’s dream character. I was controlling the general plot but not the actual events. In other words, I was deliberately letting the big hunky heroic male control everything while I just went along for the… ride (no pun intended!)

Anyway, during the dream my brain tried to trick me with a false awakening during which I was lying in bed holding an actively boiling kettle of water. It was so unbelievably realistic but I knew that it was impossible and refused to be fooled (although I did move the kettle so that it wasn’t boiling over my stomach since it was still pretty unnerving!)

I then returned to my wonderful dream…

Eventually I woke up, looked out of my bedroom window to this beautiful day and took this photo on my brand new Canon camera! What a wonderful way to wake up from a lucid dream!

Hahaha! Ohh, that's hilarious. You sang in the operating room? You walk up the person's bed humming zippidy doo da and say, "The surgery is very dangerous, and you might die. Well good luck!" I know what you mean. The feeling of freedom is exhilarating.
Haven't had a lucid dream in 3 years, and I'm looking to get back into it.

main no no for you to do is close your eyes. you let your brain relax and it destroys your image waking you up.

Smile These Dreams go on when I close my eyes...

      Wednesday 22 July 2009

This was a very cool lucid! The music on this video goes with it. You'll see why! For those of you around in the 80s who remember the song you'll love this version.

I went to bed at 11.30pm and woke up at 2.30am. I was upset about having $1,000 worth of camera gear and cash stolen the previous day in RL and there was a storm blowing. I was awake for about three quarters of an hour during which time I got up briefly. I only did one lame reality test during this time but as I fell back asleep I did think to myself “for the love of God I wish I could at least have a lucid dream”.

I then fell asleep and dreamed nonlucidly for quite a while. At one point I dreamed that I had just been asleep and was talking to a girl who said that one of my friends had watched me and had noticed that I took ages to go to sleep and that she wondered if it was part of my lucid dreaming practices. I remarked that this was odd because I normally go to sleep in less than five minutes and maybe I had been trying to have a lucid dream.

The next thing I know I'm standing in a shop looking at matchbox cars. Seeing that I was in a toy shop I immediately glanced around hoping to see some lenticular rulers. (Lenticular Rulers are those rulers with pictures on them that appear to move as you tilt the ruler back and forward. In RL I have loved and collected lenticular rulers since I was ten years old.) I didn’t see any. I turned to my sister who was standing on my left and commented “you know, it’s funny but whenever I see matchbox cars I expect to see lenticular rulers somewhere close by. I think I’ve built up an association over the years”. She started to reply and as I looked towards her I instantly spied a whole bunch of lenticular rulers on a shelf beside her. “Wow! Look!” I exclaimed. I started collecting the rulers up in my hands. I thought ‘I really need to do a reality test but I don’t want to stop collecting up these cool rulers. Still, I mustn’t procrastinate because if I let myself procrastinate a reality test during waking hours then I’ll do the same when I’m dreaming and I’ll end up getting distracted and not do one’. So I stopped collecting the rulers and quickly looked at my watch…

My watch was lenticular! It was big and round and had a design of Popeye on it! Immediately I thought, ‘wow I must be dreaming right now!’ I then looked around and I was now at a disco party in a school hall. I said to the people around me, “Guess what everyone? I’m dreaming! And the reason I know I’m dreaming is coz I can do this…” I then pushed my arm straight into a wooden table partly to show off but partly to confirm I was definitely dreaming.

I then ran into the middle of the disco floor. There were hardly any people dancing. I looked over at the DJ and he started playing “Fun, Fun, Fun” by the Beach Boys. I started singing along and dancing round like a class clown:

“and she’ll have fun fun fun til her daddy takes the t-bird away!”

I then realized I really should be carrying out my current lucid dream goal which is to sing my favourite song. So I looked at the DJ guy again and called out "play my special song!" He did. I then sang the words all the while continuing to dance round like a spastic fish…

“These dreams go on when I close my eyes,
every second of the night I live another life,
these dreams that sleep when it’s cold outside,
every moment I’m awake the further I’m away”

Then suddenly I was in a new dream. I was walking through a bar wearing faded blue jeans and a matching denim jacket (something I haven’t worn since the 80s!) I wasn’t sure if I was still dreaming so I checked my digital watch again. This time I was wearing a blue and gold analogue watch. ‘Yup. Must be dreaming’ I thought as I walked through the crowded bar. It didn't feel like it though so I looked at my watch again just to be sure. It was the same analogue watch only I noticed it had a little palm tree on it and a glowing light. ‘Yes very pretty’ I mused, ‘but definitely not mine’. I then said something silly to a couple of guys who were sitting on stools nearby drinking beer. I can’t remember what it was I said but it was something along the lines of “look at my hot booty” as I stuck my butt out towards them in what I thought was a sexy pose. Unfortunately they just laughed at me

I then arrived at the door which was made of glass. I put my arms out to the sides gesturing for the people walking with me to stop and called out “Watch this everyone!” I then attempted to walk through the glass door. Unfortunately my attempt was an abysmal failure. I simply smacked into it. “Hang on everyone, I’ll try again. Watch!” I then smacked into the door a second time. So then I opened the door the conventional way and walked through.

It was a bright sunny day outside and I started walking along with some people. ‘That was embarrassing and annoying’ I thought rather bemused by the whole door debacle. I needed to reconfirm that I was indeed dreaming so I looked at the people who were walking with me. There was a young boy of about 9, a teenaged girl of about 15 and a young girl of about 5. It was pretty clear I was dreaming. I then looked around at where I was. I could see a kind of vast plain that was dry, brown and desert-like. Then I thought ‘Yeah, this doesn’t make any sense at all and I have no recollection of how I got here or what I’m doing here. I’m dreaming alright’.

We then walked a little way and came across this mound of compost/hay. I started walking across it but realized I could fly if I wanted. I turned around and the little boy was a short distance behind me. I decided it would be fun to levitate him with my mind. I did this but he was really hard to control. I kept lifting him off the ground using telekinesis but I couldn’t get him to go up enough or forward. I tried a few times and eventually succeeded.

Then I decided to go and eat a flower coz Yuriythebest from dv has had interesting experiences eating non-edible stuff in dreams. I went looking for one and saw one. I willed there to be a bug on it coz I thought it could be quite cool to talk to a bug. When I got to the flower there were two little bugs crawling on it but I woke up.

Yay! Over 5,000 views! Nice to know people are enjoying my noctural adventures

Well, last night I missed a classic dreamsign I was using my other camera (not the one that got stolen) in my dream and the zoom lens was not working as it should. I zoomed in and out heaps of times but it was going out when I would tell it to go in and vice versa.

Didn't think to do a reality test did I?

      What a moron.

If only it had been my stolen camera I was using in the dream and not my other one. I would definitely have realised coz I had clear access to my waking memory. I know because of the things I was thinking. Grrrr!

      Never mind

Sorry to hear about your stuff getting stolen.
But at least you had such a great Lucid to cheer you up afterwords.
You sound a lot like me, running around doing crazy stuff. Singing and dancing. I never sing in real life, but many times in Lucids the joy of it has caused me to burst into song. Usually silly songs I make up on a whim too.
That was funny with the glass door. Congrats on using TK. Is that the first time you have used it? I can't remember if I read about you doing that before. When you said you wanted a bug on the flower, I thought you were going to eat that too. Your right though, that would be interesting to talk to a bug.

I actually got my stuff back! I put a notice up at work addressed to the thief and they ended up returning it anonymously. Just another example of my genius powers.

Um, no I haven't ever used TK. It was awesome fun though. I'm hanging out for my next lucid so I can do it again!
