Melissa - Sweet or Sour?

Okay this dream concerns me and this isn't the first time something like this has happened. First off, Melissa is a very good friend of mine. We used to date in 2005 (yes, I'm bi). Well I was convinced I was in love and I also thought she felt the same way. We had been through a lot over the years, we went to high school together, and used to spend A LOT of time together. There was also lots of heartache on my end. I've always wanted more out of our relationship even if it were some extra phone calls or chill sessions. She seems to ignore me sometimes when I need her the most but still I care for her (now a days I am almost a year into a serious relationship -- with a man, so..) as a sister.

That being said, this is what happened.

I was laying on a bed with a yellow bedspread, in her room. It truly looked like her room besides some misplaced furniture, etc. I was laying there casually anticipating her return with some food from her work (TGIFridays). She finally comes in and I sit up in excitement and she hands me a small pizza box. I open the box and it seemed to become a really big pizza box and all that was in there was 2 slices of cold pizza, 1 small beetle, and 1 dung beetle which in my dream was identified as a roach, by me. The dung beetle was brown and its, pincers(?) were shiny metal, like steel. The dung beetle was the size of my fist.

My reaction to seeing the contents of this box was "What the hell is this?" but before I could even get 1 word out, out of the corner of my eye the large dungbeetle jumped off of the box and crawled right in my shoe! I got up, flung the box on the ground and began freaking out and begging Melissa, who was standing right there, to help me take my shoe off. I will tell you all right now, the pain of the beetle in my shoe was horrible it was just grinding its pincers on the top of my foot. This caused me to grab and shake Melissa and BEG her to take my shoe off I remember saying things like "Come ON! All you have to do is take my shoe off PLEASE!..PLEASE!!!! MELISSA PLEASE!!" I was extremely desperate and I was just beating her trying to get her to help me. She would not, the look on her face was just blank and she was shaking her head "no". The begging, pleading, pincer grinding, and horrible pain and situation went on for what seemed like 5 entire minutes. I woke up in a shock and was relieved. My heart was beating really fast, it was just terrible.


Any idea what this could mean?

Here is an idea I might have. Me and Melissa have had a long history of smoking marijuana together, years back. We often used the term "roach" to describe a small remainder of a blunt. Other than that I don't know why I thought it was a roach when it clearly was not.

I'm going out a limb (first time interpreting something for someone else, too)... but here's what's come to mind...

Large pizza box, with sub-standard contents: Your expectations of Melissa. The box was huge, you were expecting something glorious. Inside, there were bugs and two slices. Perhaps that was her not meeting those expectations. And a let down.

Further to this (was doing some re-reading)... she handed you a small box at first. That could represent what she WAS willing to give you. In turn, once she handed it to you, it grew/seemed larger.

Reminds me of the first guy I dated. I kept reading him wrong. It's like he'd give an inch and I'd take a mile. He'd smile at me, and I thought it meant he loved me and would love me forever (mind you, he did do things that made this really easy to believe!!).

The bug causing you pain and her not helping you: You were asking something of her that she just couldn't give you, and it was/is causing you pain. In the dream, you just wanted her to take your shoe off (IRL, you would have just done it yourself), and the pain would stop. She wouldn't do it.

Despite being in a happy relationship now, a year in, perhaps there are a lot of unresolved feelings towards your friend.

There's two exes of mine (who I no longer speak to, but that's besides the point) who I have a lot of unresolved feelings from because of the way things happened. They are the only two who come back in dreams because I haven't "finished" with them. I'm actually hoping to use LD-ing to help me with that!

What do you think? Anything spot on? Or doesn't quite fit right?

Wow, thank you for this very detailed explanation. I certainly knew the issue had to do with unresolved feelings but you explained it perfectly about the sizes of the pizza box and expectations. She had haunted my dreams since I met her, and sometimes the things that happen in the dreams cause me to believe that she loved me but she was hiding it, or something ridiculous like that. This is not the first negative dream I've had about her. She's also caused me to get trapped and bitten by 2-headed snakes because I had to wander into a grassy area to get her some breakfast.

But yeah, you basically hit the nail on the head. I see where all of that lines up to my situation. Now, I just have to figure out what I can do to fix this. I almost thought if I can have a lucid dream and kill her that would help. I don't know the first thing about altering your subconscious feelings through LDing. Thank you for your help!

Well, in my case, I want to use an LD to have a conversation with my ex I'm too afraid to have IRL. See, IRL, the potential of him not caring about how much he hurt me is far too great. I have scars from those wounds now, if he got angry about me still not coming to terms with what happened, or if he said he just didn't care about the pain he caused... Ugh, I don't want to heal from that again.

In psychology, I learned of a therapy technique called The Empty Chair, which essentially is role-playing. You sit there and talk to the person like they are there. The psychologist asks you questions, but you tell the answers to your person. Then you become that person, and respond how you think they would respond (often quite negetively). Then it switches and you respond how you would like to hear them respond.

So in my case, scene #1 would be:

Mofo says: "I don't care if you're hurt. It's not my problem you can't get over crap."

Scene #2:

Mofo says: "Wow, I had no idea I caused you this much pain. I'm truly very sorry."

For me, it's not so much that I want him to grovel for forgiveness. I really just want him to acknowledge that he hurt me. The last time I ever spoke to him, he got very upset that I had the audacity to be hurt by what he did. So... yeah. In dreams I have with him now, we always talk like old friends, but I'm always afraid to bring up the past.

I've pretty much hard-wired it into my head for the past month now... next time I see him, I need to reality check. If it's RL (I have actually seen him twice around the city since this all happened), then fine, but the chance is greater that it's a dream. RC, induce lucidity and have that talk with him.

It's like The Empty Chair on a whole new level...

And yes the Pun in the dream "roach" was probably in reference to just that, the
marijuana, and accepting in your life a very sub=standard lifestyle to eat (being given by others)....

I'd take it as a Warning Dream from your higher self.
