dream of going back to high school AFTER college with ex-boyfriend

Hi,

I am a new poster here. My mom bought me a series of books on Dream interpreting and a Dream Journal for christmas and I've always been interested in dreams and symbolism so I've come here to learn more and get some help along the way.

First I'll talk about my dream...

I was the age I am now, after having graduated college and being out of high school for 5 years, and I was going back to my high school (it was a co-ed boarding school) and I was going back as being reunited with my ex-boyfriend (who was my high school sweet heart and first real love). In the dream, we were trying to deal with the problem of being back in High School where we aren't allowed to be in eachother's rooms and therefore can't have a normal, adult, sexual relationship.

One scene I remember vividly is him outside my dorm door peeing on the ground, facing me, with his pants just unzipped (not fully naked) as we discussed this issue of not being able to have sex and be together and basically having to conform our adult selves into high school-age lives.

I don't really remember much else about the dream except the way my high school looked and being in my dorm room and visiting other friends' rooms, etc.

...Now for a little about me...

I have been separated from my ex for 4 years now (we broke up after freshman year of college when I was unhappy and wanted to transfer. I ended up regretting this because I really did love him I was just confused and in need of help that I was afraid to ask for at the time. After spending all that time pushing him away, and him trying to make it work still, he eventually decided to break up with me RIGHT WHEN I realized how stupid I was and that I really just wanted to be with him. Needless to say, I was truly heartbroken for the first time and it hurt badly for the next year. I had a very hard time moving on, and am now in my first relationship since breaking up with him (now 4 years later).

I am happy with my current relationship, but when my ex and I broke up he did say that I could be "the one" and that maybe later in life things would work. That has sort-of always loomed over my head as I'm always wondering if we will get together again in the future. We do keep in touch randomly every few months or so, and on major holidays, but we are nowhere near as close as we were before. After the breakup he became very cold and distant towards me, so it's nice that now we can keep a pleasant (although still distant) conversation.



*This dream was especially impactual emotionally to me. I woke up feeling overwhelmingly sad, and thought about my ex all day afterwards. I realize it's not the most interesting to others, but it really had an impact on me and I'd like to understand it better.
