Still curious.. please respond.

I have had several "Lucid" Dreams in my life.. Some very very vivid.. as if it was a out of body experience or perhaps a "vision" of some sort. Anyway, last night scared me pretty good. Yesterday my husband and I celebrated our 6th year anniversary. We ended up fighting late last night and he slept in the guest room. I was pretty tore up about it. Well, to make a long story short, that might be the reason I had this dream. My main question is that during these dreams can they physically hurt me? Let me help you understand.. My dream started off with my husband and I in a house with another couple. He got up and left for work. I went back to sleep in my dream. I DREAMED in my DREAM that I then got up and was looking for him. I was yelling John, John.. (his name). The wife said John is right here.. refering to her husband also named John. Then she said "What husband? Who is John?".. I was telling myself that he was being "erased" for some reason in this dream and if I could just wake up he would be there. So I frantically tried to wake myself all the time screaming his name. I pinched myself, rammed my head into walls, I even jumped up to the top of the house and jumped off down to the ground trying to wake myself up. Then on my way back to the top of the house.. John was climbing the other side. I saw him, but he was blurring.. kinda like moving around I couldn't focus on him. I was screaming, John... and he was yelling back "Wake Up!!!!, Wake Up!!!" Then right when he came in focus in my dream I felt like I fell back asleep in my dream and he vanished.. it was really weird. I was telling myself to wake up and I couldn't. I thought for sure I had died in my sleep, or was in a coma for weeks and he was there yelling at me and I just couldn't wake up. During this time I could feel my heart pounding and I was very hot in my dream.. to wear I actually took all my clothes off.. knowing that I was in a dream and wouldn't matter.. anyway, I finally woke up in real life and it took me several minutes to realize that I was finally awake. I was wondering if I was still dreaming.. it was weird. Any insite would be great! Here are my weird questions.. can these dreams hurt you? Is this caused my lack of sleep? Oxygyn in the body? Suffication? Could I have a heart attack? Could I really go into a coma? .. Think I am weird.. but it was just so freaking scary!!!!!! Help???

dreaming is completely safe. whatever scary things that happen in your dream, are just happening in your dream. your heartrate may increase, and you may start sweating...but that's about it. i wouldn't worry about--nightmares can be very disturbing...and i'd imagine if you are a lucid dreamer, it probably seems even more real. judging by what happened before you went to sleep it seems pretty obvious what the inspiration for your nightmare was. maybe it will help in the future to resolve fights with your husband before bedtime ;)

I don't see any connection between a nightmare actually hurting you and your FEARING that it will hurt you. What I definitely do see is that you had a good one!

I haven't stopped thinking about this dream, it's clearly a case of divorce anxiety. To go to sleep in your dream I think means to stop paying attention to something in your life. You are deparate to wake up to find your husband throughout this nightmare, meaning you are desparate to get real before you lose him!
It's not the dream that threatens to hurt you, it's the problem that the dream is about.

Two things.

First, not to be cruel. It's sounds like your relationship with your husband is overwith and you know it, but don't want to accept it. He wants you to, "Wake up! Wake up!" to the circumstances that are right before your eyes. You have terrific fear of losing your husband and instead of waking up to what's going, on you injure yourself repeatedly. The truth is so painful that you would rather injure yourself than face it?

There are 2 husbands named John, but your John isn't there at the moment. The woman says, "What husband?" She has a husband named John also. The implication is kind of obvious.

Does this fit with reality for you? Did you have suspicions? Are you in denial? Are you missing the obviuous? John is blurry. You aren't seeing him clearly for what he is.

Sometimes, we know more when we are asleep, then when we are awake. So, while the circumstances in your life may not be good now, you have found a strength and source of knowledge in yourself.

Some of the details you describe, physically, are kind of frightening. You may have sleep apnea. I think you should research that possibility.

I've been thinking about you. I wanted to recommend a book, so you can do this on your own. Ann Farraday "Dream Games." I think that is her title. Her first book. If you want to read more, then read the 2nd. She may have written more after that. I'm not sure. It'll give you something else to focus on and help you feel a little more empowered.

The blurred vision symbol is probably going to recur for you. Those are really important dreams and if you understand their message early on, you'll avoid a lot of stumbling blocks, but you have to see clearly; deal with the pain and not beat yourself up over it--the way you kind of did in the dream.

I think you will really enjoy the book. One of the best & most helpful I've read about interpreting dreams.

Can you beleve this? I am so pathetic right now. I am worried about you. You could be a stone's throw away from me or 3,000 miles and I so feel for you. I don't even know you and it is probably best that I don't. But I feel for you.

I know the directions on this cite say something like don't write silly responses like: "thanks." But it's nice to know someone read you and got your message. For all I know, you got bored with this and I am still thinking about it. Although I read many entries today, yours is the one that sticks with me.

I could be totally wrong about your husband. It's your dream and you're the one who has to decide what it means. It doesn't mean your have to split up, if it's true. Maybe you've got a mortage together or kids. It just means things might be different.

I've this sneaking suspicion that he is going to stay blurry and out of focus though. That he'd rather be vague. Know what I mean? And that he might even discourage you from believing in dreams.

Read the book. You'll be able to help some of us out here if you do. I haven't read it in years. You won't be able to put it down.

I was also thinking about your phsical problems during the dream. I haven't dreamed lucidly in years. That's why I put myself down as a beginner though I used to be very good. My life has just been in upheaval. I think you might want to post, not on the dream interpreting thread, but on the lucid dreaming thread, not the dream so much, but what happened whey you tried to wake up. I can remember problems with that too.

Anyway, I really do wish you the best. I have to get on with my own life--what there is of it, but I'll be looking for a response.
