      My Roommate's dream

My roommate is a man in his fortie's, an AA, and in debt, and working a job he hates. A few months ago he told me his dream when we were talking about this website.
The dream: He was in a theatre of some sort, in the audience. On the stage were two man size birds pulling on a snake together with their beaks trying to rip it apart but could not. Then one of them pulls out some scissors and simply cuts it in two. Blood spurts out all over the audience and everyone gets up and leaves. As the dreamer was leaving he looks back in the theatre and there is only one man left behind, just standing there looking at him. What could it mean???

      Hello Inspirer,

A Bird usually represents Freedom or a Spiritual Message of a change to come.
A Snake usually represents Fear or Death.
Scissors often represent Disconnection from Others.
      Blood usually represents Power.
      The number 2 represents Harmony.
A man standing or observing often represents Loyalty.

It sounds as if your friend was being given a Spiritual Message on how to obtain a sense of Freedom in his life and to Reconnect to Others. That by doing so would bring about Harmony and Power in his life. They illustrated to him that what keeps him from achieving this Harmony and Power is his own Fear. The person who did not run when others did so, reflects that he has someone in his life who will stand by him as he goes through the necessary changes to better his life.

Thanks for the interpretation. One thing I forgot to mention is that he keeps talking about how all the characters in your dream are really yourself in different ways.

I believe that dreams are more personal than the one above, I don't think that certain things mean the same archetype for everyone. I am new at this, but am trying to practice: I think that your friend is torn, part of him wants to go, part of him wants to stay, he doesn't want to leave something behind. The birds on the stage, maybe something needs to be done, but no one wants to do it because it will make a big mess. Everyone pretends it's not a problem, but he knows it is (he looks back and sees that someone stayed).

That is an easy enough dream.

The Snake is the Physical Life Force that ascends to Spirituality -- think Kundalini Yoga with its Serpent Power, and the Mythologies which see the Serpent as the symbol for Immortality. The Theatre indicates that our Dreamer is simply a spectator in regards to Spirituality. The way he SEES IT is that the various Spiritual Systems and Religions simply fight over the Life Force, fight over Spirituality, fight over Religion. What happens is that they end up cutting it in two and spraying the World with Blood. So they abandon the Theatre... they grow weary of even being spectators of Spirituality. They abandon religion and spirituality... what little they cared about it to begin with.

Looking back he sees a Messianic Wise Old Man Archetype. It is the appeal of his own Higher Self not to abandon spirituality.
