When you say "lucid dream" do you mean that you were consciously aware that this was a dream and controlling it, or do you mean at this dream was vivid? For the purposes of this site we do not use lucid and vivid interchangably, although I know that a lot of people who are not in the lucid dreaming hobby do use them as synonyms. For interpreting your dream, it could make a great difference to know whether this dream was brought about by your subconscious entirely or whether you were consciously controlling your dream.
If this was a lucid dream during which you were aware it is a dream and somewhat in control, then I would ask you what your expectations were at this point in this dream, what were you trying to accomplish when your childhood buddy showed up? This could provide a clue to why.
Otherwise, can you give us as many other details as you can remember about this dream, dream interpretation of one dream element like this is nearly impossible without any context, I believe. Ideally we would also know a bit about what is on your mind currently, what issues you are facing, whether anything nowadays might bring back memories from before for you - do you see any connection between your current situation and your childhood, when you think of this childhood friend does the friend represent something for you - what qualities made this person special, what was this friend especially good at or known for, and is there anything nowadays that you can think of that might tie in to that?
