Creepy Dream - what could it mean?

Hi all, I am new to the forum and fascinated with the amount of info on dreaming. I was in New Zealand with my mate when I had this dream and it really spooked the hell out of me.

To start with I don't think I slept most of the night for the simple fact that I couldn't nod off. However I'm not sure of this because I wasn't nearly as tired as what I felt I should be the next day.

Anyway my dream went like this... I was in a dark room and before I knew it I was lying on the ground inside a pattern like a star in a circle with candles at the outer points of the star. One moment I was looking down from above and then the next I was inside my body again. So it was a bit of an inner body and outer body experience.

I recall people but am not sure what they were doing, and even if they had anything to do with me. As I was lying there all of a sudden I felt this huge amount of threatening power surge through my body and I was pinned to the floor, I could not move. I imagine it would be something like being electrocuted but it didn't hurt but I could feel that it was very powerful. I was filled with fear and woke up scared and fully freaked out.

Is this just a nightmare, or is there a meaning to it? It happened about a year and a half ago and is something I don't think I will ever forget.

I am a witch, so anything I say will probably be biased in regards to my personal religious (I hate that word…) views and customs. That said, I’ll move along.

The five-pointed star in a circle is called a pentacle (or pentagram, if you prefer). For some reason, it’s commonly regarded as a symbol associated with evil, the devil, and whatnot. Nothing could be further from the truth. To most of us, it represents love, trust, and protection. We also use it in spells of that genre and, while I can’t speak for all witches, every witch I know also uses candle(s) in their spells. There are, however, witches that use the pentacle to channel negative energies. Primarily you will see those turned upside-down. The inverted pentacle isn’t evil in and of itself, but represents an opposition to the positive. Yin and Yang, if you will.

Now, onto your dream: You mentioned that you had this dream a year ago, but if it’s still bothering you today, I’ll speak in present terms for now. A human being (you/your body) inside the pentacle surrounded by candles puts me in mind of a summoning ritual of some sort… That’s some strong imagery. I’m not sure how much you know of witchcraft and such but essentially a dream like you described makes me wonder if there may be some issue of control going on in your life. Is there someone who you feel/felt is trying to make you into something you’re not? Pushing you in a direction that you’re not sure you’d like to go (the threatening power)? Or perhaps you’re setting standards that are too high for yourself (the in-and-out-of-body experiences)? Do you remember where your head was laying on the star? Not that it matters, I suppose… obviously this was a negative incident for you regardless of the positioning of your body on the star.

Or I could be way off. This is only what first came to mind.

Right before reading this entry, I happened to be re-reading the acronym FAQ from the main dreamviews site. I noticed some similarities in your description of what happened to Hypnogogic Imagery and Hallucinations.

allow me to quote:

Also, in another FAQ related to intiating a WILD, "Tactile Sensations can feel like you are paralyzed and high-voltage painless electricity is jolting through your body. You may experience these vibrations and find yourself leaving your body or having a Lucid Dream."

All of these experiences happen to us every time we fall asleep, but we are unconscious so we don't notice them. This is something that people who are trying to have a WILD must deal with, because these hypnogogic sensations, meant to lull us to sleep, can be very scary if you are consious for them (which is the goal of the WILD technique).

So in conclusion, it sounds to like you were initiating a WILD (Wake-Induced Lucid Dream) without realizing it. You said you are new to the forum, so I suggest you start reading up on WILDs. Not only might it help explain your dream, but you might also have a natural gift for it as well!

Hi there, thankyou very much for your replies. I thought nobody was going to reply so I haven't checked back for a couple days.

A lost soul, I know nothing of witchcraft but what you have said there about being made into something I'm not and having standards that are too high makes a lot of sense and has made me aware that it is an issue I have struggled with for the latter part of my life!

To answer your question I'm not really sure where my head was...

You have reached a place in your life of hard dissensions, and they are blinding you of other things in your life that need attention (the dark room) You feel as though you are being manipulated and that you have no control over the important issues of your life. And, that you have made some choices which have robbed you of the greater things in life. (The pentagram on the floor) You have made an effort to reevaluate those choices (the looking down from above) but you feel that there are too many other forces involved which have taken the power to change them out of your hands. (The other people you can’t recall) and (The heavy weight on you.) Ask yourself: is there a choice I’ve made which has drastically changed me as a person? I think you find out there is, and what to do about it…

Were you playing Doom 3? I remember a room based like that.
Infact, theres lots of things that have the pentagram with candles, Hollywood bullcrap, you probably saw it on TV or something a while back and it was in your memory and you dreamt it. If you never seen that before it shouldn't be in your head.
