Except in some obvious cases, I think people can't be very good judges at interpreting other people's dreams. Try to think about the events, feelings and thoughts you had during the dream, and relate them to fears you have in your real life, to things that have happened, or feelings that you experience. If a feeling you experienced in the dream reminds you strongly of something you experience in real life, it's likely your mind got the situation from that event in your real life.
The only obvious 'meaning' I observe from your description is that you have a distrust, maybe even a fear, of your stepdad. Not everything needs to have a meaning. The helicopters might be a metaphor for something, or your mind entertaining your fear of chaos and destruction. Or maybe you just dreamed about them because you've recently heard about some aircraft battle, or maybe the fact that your mom was in the dark while you were watching it fearlessly means you feel bad that your mom doesn't get out much, or maybe it was completely random. If you can't figure it out, I doubt others will be able to.
