      How do YOU fly?

Many people experience flying in dreams. In fact, it is of strong opinion that this can be one of the more amazing things to do in-dream.

I've noticed, each of us has our own method of flight. Some of us (including myself) feel for certain, during the first waking moments, that they have mastered the technique of flight, and are sure they know how to do it. Buuuut, this quickly fades, as the real world comes crashing down on us--as well as gravity.

I, for one, have an extrememly unique formula to my flight technique. It's a tad hard to explain. In earlier years, my flight was best acheived with a running start--but in my adult years, I don't need one.

      Here's what is done:

My hands themselves contain the sole-incredient. They posses a sort of gravitational push to them. I don't feel an energy in them, but more of a pressure--as if being squeezed by some unseen gravitational force. I straighten my arms out to the ground, and use this force to "push" off of the earths gravitational field--I'm actually using the earth's gravitational grid to induce flight. It's so strange, becuase I really believe (even slightly now as I tell you) that there is something in that. It's a gravity field I work with, and when I use it in my dream, it really works guys--I mean it scientifically is happening ;0) I mean, how my dream is calculating physics is incredibly believable--Once airborn, I can drift and sway and dive--but if I need to speed up, or climb...I need to straighten my arms, and use the G-push again. The feel of the push against my hands, and on for my arms is very convincing. The reason I'm nearly convinced there is something to this, is that everytime I've ever flown in my dreams (which is an unmeasurable amount of times), I have always used the same technique, and had the same physical in-dream feeling.

I'd also like to add how vivid my flying dreams are (non-lucid, as of course, my lucid dreams are as real as I now sit typing this)--flying in dream is so unbelievable. How the wind feels. The weightlessness. (sp?) And something I really get off doing when I'm flying is fly directly into a thunderstorm. Ah man! It's as if my mind secretly creates a storm front with deep thunderous clouds, and I fly into them. Knowing the chance of a lightning strike, or a tornado vortex (which I've flown into in several dreams)...It feels so good to fly through a storm front guys--the rain beating against your face, the loud thunder claps and lightning flashes...you should try it the next time you are lucid.

Wow--thank you for reading that. Anyway. How do you all do it? And how does it feel?

      Yrs

I usually give myself wing if I want to fly in my dreams. It just feels so good stretching my wings out and taking flight.

But if I want to fly somewhere quickly, I just float, thats not anywhere near as fun.

For me, I dont use any special technique or anything, I just kinda think about it and shoot off into the air, no real effort involved except thinking. It is definitely one of my favorite things to do while lucid though, as flying is, like you said, incredibly realistic.
I've never actually seen my house from the air but I have while flying and it might as well be that I was really seeing it like that, for all the detail viewable.... even the wind feels real, its awesome.
As for those who have trouble flying, I can't help you seeing as how I never really had trouble doing it in the first place. Oh well.

I'm like Dragon -- all I have to do is think about lifting off the ground, and I'm off. Control is another matter -- sometimes it's easy and sometimes not.

I'm quite new at the lucid dreaming stuff, but here is how I succeeded so far:

*at first I could float just above the ground, kinda making a swimming motion...

*finally I found a way to go way up high: I placed a sort of ramp at the end of a long street, and started 'swimming' at the other end, then going faster and faster... so when I reached the ramp, it kinda shot me up in the sky....

My method of flying is really simple and kind of stupid...

I just jump off the ground and flap my arms, like if you were at the bottom of a pool and you were pushing yourself up. I never have to think about if I'll really fly or just fall on the ground, it just comes naturally. or something.

The two times that I have had a lucid dream I flew around in them as much as I could. To fly all I did was jump or think about flying and I just raised up off the ground. As for my other dreams that wern't lucid I just jumped pretty much and took flight

On my first lucid dream, I just concentrated on flying and was able to hover off the ground. A few times I'd lose concentration and fall a few feet off the air, until I concentrated again. On my second lucid I was able to do it a lot better, again, just by concentrating. I even carried a couple of girls while I was flying, each in a different part of the dream. I'm such a show-off to my dream characters when I'm lucid... lol.

Although it feels really realistic, where I can feel G-forces (especially when I fall a couple of feet by loss of concentration). I don't recall feeling the wind beating on my face very vividly though. Is there any way or technique I should practice to feel the nature more vividly as I'm flying? Is there any way to increase the vividness of the dream while I'm dreaming?

I have jumped out of the windows in buildings, jumped off the ground and went straight up, attained running starts and lept up in the air, even been in a plane or helicopter and just dove out sideways. I have lots of different ways that I have began dream flight but usually the dream that I am in defines how I decide to take off.

Strange how that worked for you Tyrantt. To me the wind was more vivid than the g forces. I felt gravity, but only a little, while the wind is usually the strongest sense. What is the weakest sensation in my flight is the sound of the wind in my ears......

I'v flown with big black feathery wings before, it was reeeaaaly cool.

But sometimes when I just want a click flight, I'll just jump reaaaly high and will myself to fly.

How do I fly? Why, simple. I FLY. I go up. I don't even jump or anything like that, I just decide to be up, and I'm up. If I really want to be somewhere quickly, I can be in that location instantly if I so desire, just by concentrating. Sometimes the control is harder, but if I get annoyed, then I just throw my entire mental force into the action, and it sometimes stays the way I want. For awhile.

Well, I'm going to have to amend what I said earlier. I had a really long LD last night, but I had a little trouble flying just using my normal "think about it" method. So I tried the thing where you put your arms down, aim your palms at the ground, and imagine a force coming out of your hands that pushes you into the air -- that worked like a charm!

Ooh, I just thought of another fun way, making fire come out of you feet, so you can burn inocent dream characters while I fly.

Yes, when I fly I... simply do. I think about it. Unfortunately, I don't think I have ever flown fully and/or freely, I usually have a ceiling of about a dozen meters. Now that I think about it, maybe that's what you call "hovering"...

You might find this fairly interesting. This happened in my last lucid dream.

I was flying around like usual and thought to myself "a flying human isn't right, it isn't elegant or beautiful, it's just plain awkward, we are not meant to fly." So I focused in on becoming a bird, a crow actually. I made sure I couldn't see myself (hands, feet, etc.) and said, "when I look down, I will have wings." And sure enough, I had black wings. I actually turned into crow, size and everything.

And so I flew, and it was beautiful and elegant as I had imagined it. And it was nice.
.......Then I think of my youth and of my first love-when the longing of desire was strong. Now I long only for my first longing. What is youth? A dream. What is love? The substance of a dream.

To fly, I run, jump, and believe.

I think the believing is the hardest and most important part.

I'm kinda like evolo. I've had one lucid dream, and I decided to fly (geez, isn't that the first the YOU would wanna do, too?). I like to make my dreams seem as close to the real world as possible, so I tried to figure out what I wanted to turn into cuz duh, a person can't fly. I figured that pretty much everything REAL that flew was either ugly or too small for my taste, so I chose a dragon (not exactly my perception or REAL, but hey, at least it worked) I thought of black wings arching from my back and a slick, scaly body, and I lifted off from my front yard. Good thing flying comes pretty naturally for me .

I've flown twice in my LD's so far, each time with a different method. The first time, I just took a good leap straight up, and found I was hovering about 25 feet in the air, with wonderful control. In the other dream, I sprouted wings, and then took a running leap into the air. I like the wings more, but I found it a little slow, so to get to my destination, I tucked my wings back and went superman style.
Well life is short, so love the one ya' got, 'cause you might get run over or you might get shot.

I am stuck to the ground in my dreams. I have LDed my whole life and I just can't seem to fly, I have tried it all. One night I flew and that was an amazing feeling and I can think of many other things that feel like that but I don't know how I did it so I can't do it again :'(

I fly by just thinking about it and having it happen.
For a while whenever I had an LD I would try to fly
and I would jump about 15 feet off the ground when
I suddenly stopped going up and had to act like I was swimming.
It took me a while to be good at flying again.

I find myself TEACHING people to fly in my dreams a lot, actually.

My capability to fly is based on my telekinetic (dream) ability. I basically levitate myself. In my dreams I can levitate one other person along with me. I once stretched the boundaries of that and CARRIED my 7-year old son, while levitating my wife, causing 3 of us to fly in total. That was fun.

I dig the original poster's gravity thing though. My flight is incredibly real to me as well, to the point where I'm pretty damn convinced in real life that I really COULD do it. Too bad it's busted or somethin

So far I've only had one LD and, of course, the first thing I did was fly. All I had to do (and I know this sounds corny) was BELIEVE that I was going to fly right before I would do it.

I put my arms up (just a natural reaction I guess) and since I knew I was dreaming I expected to be lifted off the ground. And I flew up to a roof and back down. BUT, the second time I tried I didn't put much thought into flying. I was more focused on where I was going to go, so I only lifted off about a couple feet. When I started to fall back down I thought to myself "HEY! What the F*, I'm dreaming - I can fly, damn it!"

I shot right up into the sky and got in a dogfight with two fighther jets!

I like the ideas about growing wings and stuff, though. Hopefuly I can try that soon.

I have to get a small running start almost every time, but only a few steps. I jump as high as I can, and while I'm at the arc of my jump I stretch out my body horizontally. When I'm in the air, I'm usually usually flying at about 15-20 miles per hour, (nothing too fast) with the "superman technique". If I put my arms behind me, (think Neo from the Matrix) I sacrifice some control for speed, which makes it all the more fun when I swoop down in between cars and buildings

      failed flight school

in the last LD i had on finding out that i was having an LD, i immediately wanted to fly away from the scenario that i was in(it was boring). i got really excited and tried to "up, up and away", but failed miserably. after that i tried running really fast and failed there too. i didnt try all that hard though, and just went on to what i was doing in the dream (returning from a trip from the market). i still knew the whole time that i was dreaming, but i felt let down that couldnt do anything.

I only flew once in a dream. For some reason I became a super sayian and flew. It was pretty cool. Never could do it again though.
