Usually I simply jump to the air and start flying. It doesn't need a large jump, but something that gets me above the ground. Sometimes it even feels like I'm not jumpin, but just going up. Then I fly where I want to with my hands first, or with my sides. Sometimes I 'swim' in air, but it's much slower than just flying.
I try (like most) with a slow run into a shallow jump and then I tend to glide along at the same elevation of my jump's apex. Like someone mentioned earlier on in the thread I tend to gather an audience around me to show off my "gliding" ability...but only after I have practiced it a couple of times by myself...(I don't want too look the fool, even in my dreams...hehe).
I hardly ever get more than a few feet off the ground...but I love that...because when I start to float or fly above trees and such, I start to panic as to how I'm going to land...or more specifically how hard I am going to land.
Most of my flying is similar to what you see on movies such as "Crouching Tiger..." and the likes.
I've only had a handful of true "flying" dreams...but in most of those I couldn't control my actions nor my destination...but needless to say they were all enjoyable.
I always grow wings in my dreams...It's never been hard for me to do. Probably a bit of a remnant from my scarier days when I was all draconic and freaky-like. Actually believed I could grow wings in real life back then. O_o
Anyway, I've had a few really awesome dreams about hang-gliding too, when I got bored with normal flying. And believe me, if you haven't shot down an F-16 from a hang-glider, it's something worth doing!
I tend to be flying in most of my dreams to start off with, for some reason or the other it is more difficult for me to walk then fly/float. But when I want to fly or get somewhere in a hurry, I just tend to will myself into the air and fly in the direction I am looking. I can focus on a faraway object and say to myself that there is where I want to go, and I start to zoom off in that general direction going pretty damn fast, although when I use this "focus" technique its easy to lose lucidity or your dreamscape since all around you is blurry and disoriented except for the object or whatever you are focused on and flying towards.
Nonsense booby pants!
No offence, but what are you trying to say, and what does that have to do with flying :?
And, were you responding to my post Potential when you are talking about the siddhis?? Which one did I do if so..
GETTING BACK TO THE TOPIC....
Flying is what I do most in LD's. Often I fly with my arms stretched out horizontally, and just imagine something pushing me up while something else is pulling me forward. I also occasionally lose control (if I'm not concentrating) and it feels like a very powerful wind is forcing me to spin and flip away from where i want to go. One problem I have is hitting the ground, hard... I've always wanted to make a crater.
My process is not very complicated. I just 'think light' and become weightless. Becoming weightless is the main way I verify the dream state. From weightlessness I simply move in the direction I want to go. Very nice way to travel.
I haven't been able to fly yet :( I've only had a few LDs so far, and every time I've tried flying I'll run, span my arms out and jump, get a few meters into the air and then I just kind of get pushed back down.
Flyings a sinch once ya get the hang of it!!!
I have an A, B, and C plan for flying
At first (if you've ever seen the matrix trilogy) i jump and basically fly like superman. Just willing myself to go. Sometimes this doesnt work perfectly. That's my A plan (it's the funnest)
My B plan is to use something to propel me. I'd use a Jetpack, or a large rubber band to get me started. As you're in the air, just tilt the way you want to go, and you're flying!!!
Plan C is only when i need to fly to do something and everything else hasnt worked. It's a little boring and can be quite tedious but it works. I walk up an imagined flight of stairs, jump off, and glide to the earth as far as i can with my arms outstretched.
Using wings is also used by a bunch of people, and i use it when i feel like messing around with my dream ego a bit. I dont do it often tho, i'm usually focusing on something else.
Hope i helped!

Nonsense booby pants!
Hey, I never said I was lazy or fucked it over cause it was a different language, I was just asking if you were talking to me when you posted your post.. The shit you said sounds very interesting, and if I could levitate in waking life, then fucking right, I would try and do that shit, but I do believe in the forces of gravity and no matter what my mind is doing, the earth is still constant and exists and will be pulling with all its might me to its core....so I dont even see how levitation is possible....No matter what language you print it in..
Come to my house and levitate in front of me and i'll fuckin believe it
Give me an address and I will come to your house, and you can see me fly. PM or email, I don't care.
If you could really fly, then I think it would be all over the news, wouldn't it?? Go outside, noon, wherever your "Downtown" is and fly for them...Thats good enough for me.
Usually when i find out i'm able to jump really high. After i'm in the air i can hover around.
Now, I know that many people can "float around" and I've done it myself, but I was wondering if it's possible or even easily attainable to be able to zoom around like a jet plane. I don't think I've gone faster than around 20 mph when I flew, so I want to know how to really increase that speed.
I tried to fly in my first ld, but all I did was jumped high and wasn't really able to fly in it..kind of weird..
Wow my flying/levitating technique is similar to dream_Quake's, I put my arms down infront of me and point my palms towards the floor imagining I am pushing myself up with some form of energy. All though when I was younger I used to flap my arms like a bird to fly, I also stretch out my arms when I want to glide from a height.
I have a couple of different strategies for flying, depending on what I want to do.
When I first started, I needed something to help get me off the ground, something realistic as too much fantasy in my ealier LDs would cause me to wake up. So... remember those big carnival swings, the ones that spin you around in a big circle and go up and down? I brought myself to one of those, and jumped out of it when it was up in the air. After that, I never had a problem taking flight in any method.
Sometimes I hover slightly above the ground, and I start by just sort of step-jumping forward and making a swimming breaststroke movement. I remember trying to teach someone how to do that once, it's not hard if you can get over the inital disbelief of being able to do it.
Other, higher hovering involves me upright instead of horizontal over the ground. If I'm not going anywhere special, this is my favorite because I can just hover anywhere and "hang out". I think for this one you need a good connection to energy in your dream.
For the faster flying, I can't even begin to explain it. It slightly draining to do, but I don't use wings or my arms. It's almost like a mixture of flying, time travel, and hmmm... mind vortex? Dunno. That's the best I can put into words :P
I did have one fun time on top of some trees, racing a swinging chimpanzee. I would jump and float from tree to tree, trying to speed up each time. If you're a fan of drag racing, that's a good one.
This is exactly how I do itQuote:

I just jump off the ground and flap my arms, like if you were at the bottom of a pool and you were pushing yourself up. I never have to think about if I'll really fly or just fall on the ground, it just comes naturally. or something.
I had a lucid dream a few days ago where I was flying for the first time... I didn't have wings, didn't have to "swim", I was flying on the power of Thought
umm, this is gonna sound a bit stupid, but if i stretch my right hand straight up I can usually fly.. thats my average way. Helps to learn howto go through solid objects in dreams too if you gonna fly.
Sometimes.. its not as easy, sometimes i'm not *supposed* to fly in a dream, due to circumstances. But, they are fewer and fewer. Also sometimes I must eat or drink something to gain the ability.
I'm become more powerful though.. I can levitate, move objects, go through walls, shapeshift a little (i once changed into a woman.. that was a little creepy), and read minds.
Last night, I had a LD. Then, of course [b]all we want to fly" And Jumped into the sky.
There (in the sky) it was a little to slow to move, then when I was trying to go faster, suddenly a friend of mine (the one I least expected to show up) appeared and said: "Make a board that it will help".
So, I materialized a board. It was not really good to grab it. So I said, "Improve aerodinamics". So it did. Then, I just sat on it like a magic carpet and was giving directions: go there, now go there... etc...
In fact, I made a vehicle to compesate my lack of movement.
But now that I read some interesting ideas here. I will put them to practice next time.
