Thread: How do I stay in the same environment?

I had another lucid yesterday. (I also chained dreams! Yay! First time! But I digress.) The detail was amazing, but my environment changed so much and so quickly it was annoying. I was just starting to fly up when suddenly I found myself in a bathroom. There was Wagner playing on the bathroom speakers. I tried to change the song and bam! I'm suddenly at a party.

The scenes were changing so quickly I hardly had time to act or look around. Is this just a matter of willpower or concentration? How do I keep the dream environment (relatively) stable?

In the simplest terms, yeah. Just a matter of keeping focused on that scene. Try rubbing your hands together, and sitting down a few minutes to relax and take in your surroundings to stabilize the dream. Hopefully that'll keep the scene from hopping around too much.

Try "grounding" yourself in the dream environment.

One of the tricks I use to "ground" myself is to "touch" things. By touching.. I mean really "feeling" them. Get into how they feel.. are they hot, cold, smooth, rough, etc. (this also helps me remain in the dream longer).

Thanks. I'd heard of that already but I didn't realize it had an effect on the scene itself. I just thought it increased clarity.

I find that the grounding technique mentioned by Clarity works well for me lately.

It used to be that everytime I became lucid I got so excited that I immediately tried to do many different things at once (fly, teleport through walls, summon dream characters and environments). This caused the scene and my lucidity to become shaky and insubstantial.

Now when I become lucid, the excitement is still there but I calm down my intentions, look slowly around the environment and touch anything nearby to stabilize.
