Every time i get lucid, i have trouble controlling them, but most importantly, dream spinning has never worked for me. Any pointers? It's getting agitating not beind able to do it after a while and I'm sure some other people are having trouble too.

i also, dont think i was very clear with this post, i meant spinning to change scenes. i've read over some old posts and people suggest opening and closing your eyes, but i think ill wake up instead. i find it hard to even do anything when im lucid because i never remember most of my DCs are there to make me lose track and that i should beat them up instead of being chased by them. walking takes too much time. so, are there any other methods?

Dream-spinning can work, but most of the time I've found that the harder you try to hold on to your dream-mind, the more your waking-mind insinuates itself. Relax.

I only use the spinning technique to prevent the loss of lucidity. But, in that capacity, it's always worked for me. The only time it's failed is when I was unable to do it at all (perhaps because I couldn't catch it in time). I usually use a door to change the scenery if I chose to.

You say that you're concerned you may awaken if you closed your eyes but I believe that you should try it one time and see if it works for you. The antithesis of success is doubt so try to be positive that the technique will yield the desired result. In other words, try to change your expected result to that of success. After all, "it works for other LDers - so it does work - and probably will for you". Now that's the attitude to adopt.

Also, I would recommend that you stay and deal with your dream threats, as opposed to always trying to escape. Escape is fine for mild cases where you have no fear and don't feel like being bothered. But, if you stand and deal with the situation then you're likely to experience fewer threatening dreams. Or, if you do, it'll be an easier and less tedious task to quickly nullify uncomfortable lucid moments. Even your non-lucid dreams will benefit from your efforts.

Be fearless and you'll find it usually takes very little effort to change the mood of a dream. It's all about attitude, just like in real life.

And guess what else will benefit? Your confidence in your dream control. That, in turn, may give your dream spinning a positive boost and allow you to change scenes at will by spinning

Again with the spinning! Dont spin, it's just an unreliable technique. Sure the feeling of the spin helps anchor you in the dream, but you can substitute running, flying, jumping to accomplish the same thing. The spin is too disorienting, and half the time you wake up.

Sometimes it just takes practice to do certain things in lucid dreams, just stay calm and collected and you'll get it.

All the times I've done dream-spinning, it has worked out nice. Try to spin so fast, that you can't see. Instead of closing your eyes, imagine your sight getting darker and darker, and then imagine a scene, that you want to go to. That's how I do it, though I also close my eyes sometimes.

I think Oneironaughts advice was spot on. It really is about Faith and Belief (and doubt and Fear). Dream spinning has been one hundred percent effective for me too, and all I ever have to do is so loosely indicate that that is what I want and it all happens automatically.

Dream spinning allowed me to extend a Lucid Dream by four times once so that it seemed like the dream lasted about one clock-hour. I met my Spirit Guide at the conclusion of that dream too! (I asked to during my fourth and final spin (which looks a lot like what it does in waking life).

But yeah, do you remember when you first tried to fly in a Lucid? Very probably, like most of us, you had trouble. Getting stuck, not lifting, going slow, having to swim, etc. etc. These problems are all related to doubt. Literally, thought creates reality in dreams, so if you have even a modicum of doubt then it will manifest by holding you back from the things you wish to achieve. Experience helps too. Try meditating in the dream as well.. and yes, relax.

      Rob.

Instead of closing your eyes, cover them with your hands

The best thing to remember is its not so much a proven technique, but a tool that some people use. You should use whatever works best or makes the most sense for you. I myself have never used spinning to change locations. I have been flying in dreams since I was a small child so to me it makes the most sense to take off and fly to whatever destination I want. Also, spinning is sometimes used to prolong a dream, and even though I have been lucid dreaming for a long time I had never heard of this. I tried it for the first time a few nights ago and all it did was make me dizzy and almost fall over.

Another thing I've used to change locations is to push through mirrors alice in wonderland style. These are just ideas though; like I said, you should come up with something that makes the most sense to you.

Just being confident and willfull as possible works best for me. I tried the dream spinning once, but I couldn't go fast enough and my lucidity faded.
