Thread: You Can't Control Your Dreams

People who go online and tell other people that they "control" their dreams are lying, and furthermore they're getting in the way of things that really CAN be done in lucid dreams.

Anybody who does that needs to go straight and get a life.

Wait, so first you say you can't control your dreams, then you say trying to control them gets in the way of things you can do. So if you can do things at will, isn't that controlling your dreams? Have you tried to control your dreams? Personally, from my experience with lucid dreams, I beleive it can be done.

When I was younger and had more of a vivid imagination I controlled my dreams all the time. I remember making people appear, making them say what I wanted and if the voices did not sound right I could fix it. Like once Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes appeared and my voice was speaking his lines and I concentrated and had him repeat what I wanted in Brett's voice. I also can create scenery, walk through walls, fly, and all that stuff in dreams because dreams are just your imagination.

So, if this is not control I'd like to know your definition of it.

And, this excellent book Exploring The World Of Lucid Dreaming also shows astral bodies and such like to be figments of your imagination. I would conclude this means dream guides also.

I know you have accused people here of lying about LDing a few times (most of your posts it seems) - perhaps some people are. But there are plenty of folk on this site who can and do LD frequently - some even at will by WILDing.

So you can't LD frequently or stabilize your LDs? I'm sorry! But that doesnt mean others can't - perhaps you have an inferiority complex? Or are you just being controversial to try to drum up new subjects for your experiments, and members for your yahoo group?

Why not just post your tasks & experiments in the research section?

You will never know who is lying - so it doesnt matter how you interact with your subjects - unless you put them in a sleep lab and get them to do the eyes right left right thing whilst in REM.

Even those poor souls who can't "control their dreams" are welcome.

But let me tell you up-front that DOZENS of people who have spread around the B.S. about their alleged super-powers in dreaming have suddenly disappeared when I've given them a very simple task to carry out in lucid dreaming, and I've never heard one word from them again.

The problem is that people think that what they say about this can't be disproved. Therefore they think they can say anything they want to.

So why is that a problem? Well, lies are always a problem, aren't they? Why people want to go online and anonymously "impress" someone who they'll never meet with lies is something for a psychiatrist to explain though. I'm more interested in what can really be done with lucid dreams, which is something such people have no inkling about.

wow, are you oblivious to this whole site? the main idea is about being lucid and controlling your dreams. do you think that all of us have nothing to do with our lives but BS everyone into thinking we can control our dreams? think about it, just because its never happened to you doesn''t mean its not possible.you should just get off this site if your only here to tell us off.

Arny, dozens of people control their dreams every month when they do one of the lucid tasks I give them.

I also controlled my lucid dream last night when I purposefully lifted an automobile over a fence and set it down on the other side using telekenesis last night.

Hmmm... I'd love to hear what these "tasks" are that will prove that controlling dreams is a myth. I have a hard time believing that such a proof exists both because of the logic required and because I have controlled many of my own dreams.

Arne - Whatever your opinions about the truth of an individual's LDing claims you cannot call them liars simply because they 'disappear' - perhaps they simply found your attitude offensive and your tasks boring?

It seems to me you are just taking from this site - i.e. using it for recruitment for your own purposes.

Or is this just a hobby? In which case why should I, or anyone else waste their time, if its just for your benefit?

Why does your research have to be done off-site? I can't think of any reason - except that you want exclusive ownership of the results - which goes against the whole ethos of this community.

Post your task(s) and a little more about what you are doing, in the Research section and I for one will give them a go.

I think the 'liars' could be guessed - their descriptions of their experiences will likely be short and laking the bizarre irrelevant details that characterise dreams. There are also questionaires that can help here.

(I understand that some experiments may need to be done without the subjects knowing the purpose of the experiment - but they would at least know the credentials of the researcher and would probably be paid as well.)

I don't know if you've noticed, but this is a site of 10 000 members. As well as our rival site, LD4ALL of another 10 000. Your calling 20 000 people liars, based on a couple dozen not being interested in your Yahoo group?

Not to mention your also basing this on nothing because you have obviously failed to read Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen LaBerge, who is the leading researcher on Lucid dreaming, and by far knows more about it than anyone on the planet. This is a man who is payed to do his work and research on the phenomenon, and puts countless dollars into research, where as you clearly haven't done yours.

Please ignore this person. It is obvious that he is not serious on the subject of dreams. Either that or his definition of control, or "control" as he writes it, has spiritual over tones. He might be talking of OBE's and Astral stuff not just dreaming what you want to dream.

If you want to prove me wrong, then the way to do it is to join my group and take on a couple of tasks.

I'm not James Randi. My interest in this is not to bust out liars. That's the last thing I want to waste my valuable time doing. Unfortunately though, I've had to waste a lot of time doing it.

In the past eight years I've found a few people who really do have lucid dreams sometimes. But I haven't found many.

I wish I could get to your little site from here but I can't because I'm at work and I guess they thought it to retarded so they blocked it out. I've had lucid dreams and I have controlled one or two things before. Whoever took your task might have been new and not had much experience. Controlling your lucid dreams takes practice and confidence and..well... doesn't always want to work out. I have a hard time even becoming lucid much less gaining control, but I'm fairly new to all of this. I know for a fact I have had control in my lucid dreams before in the form of summoning someone by thinking of them, flying, and of course increasing dream clarity by shouting demands. What else would you call this if not control. I don't really care to prove anything to you. It's hard enough for the average person to prove lucidity much less dream control to another person. All I know is I'm having fun with it and I know it's true and don't really care whether you do or not. Too bad YOU don't believe it...suks to be you!

I think we should just quit replying to this attention-seeker. Arne, believe whatever you want to believe, believe it blindly if you choose, but it's your loss.
