I have always been able to remember my dreams clearly, but i dont have nightmares anymore, and its harder to induce lucidity without them. I have tried various methods of pre-sleep preperation and they dont work. I was just wondering if anyone could relate to my story, and any help in getting lucid more often

When I was about five (like you) I had a nightmare almost every night as a child and I remember that a few of them were vivid. Later on I chalenged the nightmares and destroyed them - that was one of the greatest dream experiences I've ever had. Since then I was able to control my dreams (not every night, only occasionally) and I somehow mastered it to have vivid lucid dreams I have now. About recognising the bad ones and waking up, yes, I could do it as well (except for the tricky ones).
To get lucid, the best method for me is to sleep for six hours, then wake up, do some work (eat food, watching tv, etc.) for about thirty minutes and then go back to sleep.
