Trouble staying on task. Any help/advice?

Ok, so my main goal/task that I want to complete while Lucid dreaming is to have a conversation with a DC. I know doesn't sound like the most exciting thing to do in a lucid dream but it seems really interesting to me. My only problem is once I become lucid I always seem to stray off of my main goal and totally forget about it. Anybody got some tips/advice that might help me remember my plan and to stay on track?

Since I use the MILD technique and it works fairly good, I had an idea of doing the reality check and ask "Am I dreaming" then ask myself "Where is the closest dream character I can talk to". With hopes that it will carry into the dream maybe it will help me stay on task once I become lucid.

Has anyone had any experience with doing something similar to stay on task?

Any tips and feedback are appreciated, Thanks.

That's a problem I still encounter today. When becoming lucid just try and think for a few seconds before doing anything.

I was always a dreamer, in childhood especially. People thought I was a little strange.-Charley pride

Alright that's also somewhat a problem haha I get distracted pretty quick once lucid, but I am going to try and stop and think for a little bit every time I become lucid and with some practice, hopefully it will be easy to do that and think about my task at hand.

this allways happends to me if i dont make a goal before hand. But if i do make a goal before hand i will remeber it. I just have to keep it in my head as i fall asleep

it good to make goals beacuse i think the dream last longer and u wont spin the LD wondering what to do then wake and feel you wasted it

So my technique I thought of doing actually worked already, every time I did a reality check I said to my self "where is the closest dream character you can talk to" and It carried over into my dream and I talked to a dream character about me dreaming, and all he did was deny that I was dreaming even though I still knew for a fact I was lol. But I think I am going to continue to do this for whatever goal I have in mind for a lucid.

Very nice! I was just going to tell you you have the exact right idea, but I see you pulled it off already. The DC reaction is so classic! Why does it happen to so many people? I used to have DCs get angery or upset trying to convince me I was not dreaming.

Cool, most people just want crazy super powers like flying or shooting fire from their hands.. I wanted a goal that was more intriguing and more in touch with my "inner self" glad to see I am not the only one. good luck on your goal though

Yea, my DCs always try to tell me that I am definitely not dreaming even when I know for a fact I am, lol. As for my idea I had there to stay on task, do you know if that is an actual technique for completing goals? I'm sure there are others on here who have done it but if there is no threads that mention it I would like to share it with DVs. Hopefully it can help many who use the MILD technique who might have trouble completing their "dream goal"

It sounds original enough to me. It is just a variation on the theme, but doing at the same time you RC is new to me. Repeating your goals in a chanting sort of way is common, but I like your version, because if you get used to it being part of your RC you are likely to think about your goals as soon as you RC.

That's what I thought of while typing the original post here, it just popped into my head that considering doing reality checks and asking whether or not I am dreaming carries into my dreams as easily as it does, why not incorporate my goal right into my whole reality check that way as soon as I become lucid I immediately remember to stay on task.
