How do I get phones to work?

I had an awesome LD last night. very vivid and realistic. BUT then i tried to get this one videogame character to appear, by calling them on my phone. when i opened it, it said something about buying minutes. how do i get my phone to work? that was completely unexpected and it NEVER does that in RL... please help!

Well, phones are access points to lines of communication. It could very well mean that, in reference to your own psychology, the phones really don't work.

Since perception determines conception, conception determines will, then it is true at the very foundation of our existence, we do have to pay for the minutes we use.

English? I never passed an English class in my life, cept college, and then my teacher wanted to condemn me to a lifetime of writing like this by turning pro. sorry.

Communication is an art and it takes personal investment to make it work. I suggest either become one, or find one who can teach you.

You have to "expect", or "know" what will happen when you open the phone. You know, it goes to the menu or whatever, then when you punch in the numbers they'll appear on the screen. It helps to visualize it beforehand, during the daytime.

But since you want to summon a character... Why not just turn around and know they'll be behind you? Or expect them to tap you on the shoulder at that particular moment. It's way easier and less of a hassle.

Yea, as Puffin said, you'd be amazing by how powerful your Will and Belief is in a Lucid dream. Just believe the right thing hard enough, and it'll happen (usually. There are always exceptions and junk.

I'll try to mediate for Philosopher's comment and interpret it for the layreader:
It's my understanding that he's saying it could be a sign that the lines of communication in your life are requiring you to "buy more minutes". Only you can decipher what that means when thinking of the dream as a sign, but I suggest it could mean you need to invest more into earning time to communicate with those in your life. It's a very abstract idea, but that's what I believe Philosopher was going for. I believe he suggests this due to a similar experience he had regarding phone lines or something of that nature, which he shared several months ago in a different thread.

How's that, Philosopher?

Also, a very fine statement at the end there, we do indeed have to pay for the minutes we burn up (and even for those we leave to rollover for next month).

As for my own answer to your question, I'd say try to make that call again in a lucid. I can't say why it didn't work, but I can say that trying again will do one of two things: do the same thing and possibly bring you a deeper insight as to why it's happening (in which case I refer you to Philosopher's suggestion), or you'll succeed in making a call.

Haha, this made me laugh a little. It was trying to make you buy minutes. Some con-artist is running through everyones dreams making their dream phones charge for minutes..

All good points guys....Also it depends on what video game character you're trying to summon via cellphone. Theoretically calling someone from the GTA series would be a lot easier than say Link or Mario, cause they never use cellphones, and Link never talks.

Interesting thought there, looking at the character as opposed to the summoning action. What character were you trying to call? Were you calling because they'd likely have a phone on them, or because that was the method of summoning you happened to choose at the time?

that was the method i had thought of at the time. in RL i had planned a different method, but kinda forgot. and now that you mention it... well that particular character DOES talk in-game. but they don't use a phone...

As long as you're going to withhold what character it is you're trying to meet, all I can say is to expect them to be around a near corner or walking up to you from behind and you'll see them.

I would abandon the phone entirely. Find a more direct way of contacting the person. Devices, like this, rarely work consistently. Why invest work and attention trying to create a device to rely on, when you can just get the end result directly. Doesn't make sense to me.

well, the character is NiGHTS, from NiGHTS: Journey of dreams. infact, the phone thing sounds entirely stupid now that i think about it. that character probrobly never even heard of phones lol. i figure he could help me with my flying issues.
