This will probably be my only post on this site.
I have been lucid dreaming for a very long time and these are some of the important things that I have learned about/ through lucid dreaming:
1.) Lucid dreaming is, in short, MIND OVER MATTER.
When you are about to do anything in your dreams, BELIEVE that the task is poosible and KNOW that you can do it.
If you try something without confidence or with doubt, the outcome with be scary and unpredictable.
We grew up in a world of impossibilities. From a young age, we learn to EXPECT things to happen in certain ways. For example; when you through a ball into the air, you EXPECT gravity to act upon it and cause the ball to fall. These real-world expectations is what makes it hard for you to do certain tasks in you dreams. If in your dreams, you expect a big scray monster lurking around the corner, a big scary monster WILL be lurking around the corner. If you expect the laws of reality to act the same way in your dreams, then it'll be difficult for you to fly, or phase into matter, or stop and reverse time, or breathe underwater...etc.
Sometimes, your dreams will seem to follow the physics of some hollywood movie. That's because you have seen the movie and have an image to what to expect. This is why most people fly by flapping their arms (like the birds they see everyday) to in a superman position (like the image they've seen on tv).
In your dreams, things happen the way you EXPECT them to happen. Your inner-mind knows your doubts even when you are not aware of these doubts yourself. So be confident and KNOW that you can do whatever the task it is you want to do.
2.) Your dream characters are a representation of an aspect of your life or you (past or present). Some will be agressive and some will be friendly. Some will resemble a childhood friend or perhaps a younger version of yourself. You should never abuse or bully your dream characters. They are apart of you.
Try to understand them and get to know them
KNOW that you dream characters cannot hurt you. Tell them that if you have to.
3.) Once your are done being a rookie at lucid dreaming... once you've realized you've done enough "fooling around" in your dreams, try to LEARN from your dreams...
Most of the time, your dreams do teach you a lesson or tell you more about yourself or the world around you. Once you are lucid, step back, observe your dreams instead of trying to control them.
