Background:
I have always been interested in dreaming because my dreams are usually a fun adventure all on their own. So my thought was that, wouldn't it be even better if I could gain some control over them? Over the past 10 years I have had it in the back of my mind and maybe had one or two experiences where I realized I was dreaming and immediately woke up. Otherwise not much success but I didn't really put much effort into it.
I decided to take it a bit more seriously over the past couple of years and have been trolling the DreamViews forums looking for any and all advice that I might be able to put to use to help get more control over my dreaming. Over the course of this time, I had only one time that I remember where I actually had lucid dream-like dreams or happenings. First time was an accidental WBTB where I suddenly was aware that I was dreaming even though everything was black. I knew to look at my hands so I did so and they looked like they were made up of small shimmering points of light in the shape of my hands and forearms. I decided to try to spin to see if I could change to an actual dream scene but only succeeded in spnning around in the bed so my head was where my feet were. I looked down at my feet at the head of the bed, but then woke up realizing I had a false-awakening. That was pretty cool but really was the only time I had any success.
On DreamViews I came across the discussion about supplements. I started with trying out B6, not much luck other than making it difficult to go to sleep. Then I came across the Galantamine/Choline combo. Sounded pretty interesting so I thought I would give it a try. (purchased Lucid Dreamer from Advanced Dream Nutrition: Dreamamins With Galantamine)
Morning 1:
First time taking it. I am normally super excited when I try to do anything lucid dreaming related so naturally it's always difficult to actually fall asleep (normally I have no problem sleeping and sleep quite well). Over the past couple weeks I have been waking up consistently at 4am to go to the bathroom so I thought this would be perfect for a WBTB. I had work in the morning but I figured it would give me enough time to check it out before having to get up around 7am. So I take two pills for a total of 8mg Galantamine and 400mg Choline and get back in bed. I'm excited so I lay there for awhile. Look at the clock, 4:30. Lay there longer, still excited, 5:00. Supposedly Galantamine peeks after an hour so I'm even more excited, still awake... 5:30. Since it has peeked, my normal day-dreams are starting to feel more like my normal dreams, more realistic and sort of take on a life of their own. No sleep paralysis that I am aware of (which has been my goal for a while, a WILD). Finally go to sleep around 6...
I have a series of dreams that are like my normal dreams (sort of hazy but involved). However, I am aware that I am dreaming but kind of in a hazy way. The first dream I am in some parking garage but I am aware. The second dream I am in a Wal-mart when suddenly everything slams into focus and I am completely aware. I decide to fly out through the roof. I break through the roof and there's sparks and electricity and it's all pretty vivid. But then I move on to the next one. Another hazy one but I'm aware so have sex with whoever was nearest. I think a couple more like that. Then the false awakenings start...
I sleep next to my wife who snores a bit. Normally it has zero impact on my sleeping. During the false awakenings though, it enters into it. I keep sitting up in bed and looking over at my wife. The first couple times she's laying down but is talking to me. The only way I know it's a FA is because I hear her snore. Then she is sitting up and talking to me, looking at me with a crooked smile. I realize she's not up when I hear her snore. Then she tells me someone is in the bathroom. I go in there and see a little girl sitting on the toilet. Since I'm still in rapist mode from my previous dreams, I try to have sex with her. I hear a snore and I'm actually back in bed. I'm laying there and hear my wife talking to me a couple more times but I don't look over. In between sentences I hear her snore. This is a really strange feeling. Then I wake up fully and am done dreaming. I get up and go to work, feeling a bit groggy/dazed from this whole experience. But I also feel good from actually making some progress after so long.
*Note on the FA's: since I've been doing a lot of research on WILDs, the sleep paralysis part has been slightly intimidating. I've always wondered what I will experience - old woman mumbling; demon at the foot of the bed; earthquake, etc. But it seems that what I experience is my wife, which is actually pretty cool.![]()
