    1. #198. Waterpark in the Sky

by , 08-17-2015 at 07:23 PM (Things to Run Away From Really Fast)
Long dream that started out when Fitz wanted to go base jumping with Simmons, but he hadn't suited up by the time the group was jumping.

Later, Fitz has to rescue Simmons. Everything has turned into a weird waterpark in the sky. Simmons is briefly some sort of bivalve (like a clam or an oyster) and is glowing, and Fitz has to sneak her in without anyone realizing. Everyone is now looking for the glowing bivalve, because it's some sort of MacGuffin.

Simmons is turned back into her regular self, and now she has to rescue Fitz. I swim through the waterpark as Simmons, breathing easily underwater.

      There's a gunfight now.

      shift

We're on the ground, now. Autumn colours, and there's some kind of graduation happening. I'm a teenaged girl in a blue dress, only a little bit more practical than Cinderella-style. We're marching against a rival town.

The two groups of rival townspeople meet on a grassy field. I summon a whirlwind of fire. Or try to—it turns out that I have an ice staff, so I freeze everyone within a five-metre radius. Most of the enemy group is frozen, but so are a few allies, including my mage.

I switch to a character on the outskirts. Katniss. Ranged. I nock an arrow.

      We shift

so that I'm watching my brother play a strategy game in the same setting. Rival towns, grassy fields. The game involves playing rival towns' structures against one another, so my brother is using playground equipment against his enemy's farm equipment. Jungle gyms versus tractors and combines.

The enemy structures approach and my brother bashes his playground equipment against them. The enemy's mass and your mass cancel each other out, so if you can find enough structures to throw against the invaders, you win. Otherwise, they keep coming.

There's also something about a fairy godmother.

    2. Execution day

Before me, it's Katniss Everdeen's turn. There is a whole crowd watching as she steps up on the small platform. The president holds a gun aimed to her face, and he is standing just a few feet away from her.
But Katniss Everdeen stands tall, without a trace of fear in her face. I'm sure she has a plan. There is that silence for a moment, a tense vacuum as everyone in the crowd holds their breath. I'm watching from behind, inside a building. Her brown hair baffles in a burst of wind.
Then, suddenly, there is a commotion. A group of men emerges from the crowd, and they are armed. The president turns and looks at them with shock. Katniss Everdeen takes a leap and jumps among them. They're running trough the crowd and over the hills. Before long, they are gone.

A couple of days later, it is my turn. I am not exactly sure what's my crime, but I have a sense that is has something to do with rebellion or something similar. My mother follows me out to the empty town square. There is no crowd this time, only the president in his old-fashioned suit and top hat. He carries the same revolver as before, and he has the same look of revolt in his eyes as before.
I am waiting for someone - anyone - to emerge from the shadows and save me. But no one comes, and the second ticks. I consider trying to escape myself, but come to the conclusion that I should wait for my potential saviors and not mess up their plan.
But the time passes and nobody comes. I look at the president, want to beg for mercy, but nothing comes out of my mouth. I know my time is up.
He raises his gun. I don't close my eyes, but stare into the dark barrel. I never get to hear the shot, or feel any pain. My vision turns black and thus, I know I am dead.

The point of view changes, and I'm able to see the scene from a different perspective. 20 feet from where I am shot, there is a group of people hiding behind mounts of dirt. They're armed with rifles. I zoom in on the face of one of them, a brown haired boy, and he is tensely watching me.
I realize they were ready to jump forward and rescue me. They were waiting for me to make a move. Had I just dared to jump from the platform and run, I would still be alive. I screwed up my only chance. And as by magic, I get to go backwards in time and play the scene once more.
Only this time, I know what is waiting...

I fail once more, but try again.

      I wake up.
