      Dream Fragment:

I remember little of most of the dream. Just one part stands out.

I was being shown someone's pet or something. It was a cat at first but then it was a hyena. It was on a stand or pedestal of sorts and the animal itself looked elongated compared to what I'd expect.

Then the person showing me the hyena, was telling me something about its urinary system and they put their hand sort of inside the hyena from underneath and pulled out a very large fleshy and desaturated pink sac.

Some explanation was given to me. I didn't feel any disgust and was curious about the anatomy and around this point I realised the hyena looked to be sort of split into three parts but still joined together by some spinning tube thing between each sectioned part. I remember the hyena's head was turned toward us most of the time and was panting. Something about this segment reminds me of having the dog at the vet.

      Dream Fragment:

Maybe this was the first dream. Something about H and our friend C. I remember we were at our house, or some version of it. H was concerned about someone breaking into the shed and I reassured H by pointing at a very Sims-like alarm system installed just to the side of the shed door.

I remember it was a dark night but there was a full moon in sight. The ambience looked darker than it should have done considering the full moon and how big/close it appeared to be.

      Notes:

      - The alarm system from the Sims should have been a somewhat obvious dream sign.
      - The dream with the hyena, while similar in feel to the experience of having the dog at the vet, was probably just a manifestation of the interest I have in analysing anatomy from a hands-on approach. My lack of disgust or similar feeling is somewhat unusual within the context of automatic reactions, but perhaps is some indication that I could overcome such reactions more easily with training or simply by being exposed to this type of demonstration on a regular basis. I often feel sad that things have to die for us to have a better look at them and this aspect and the fleshy sac both relate directly to how I feel about meat in cooking, at times.
      - I believe the rotating tube sections were simply the dream mind's way of justifying the body being split in three sections while the creature was still alive with no pain. In a way it felt a bit like something I might be able to do with a 3D model and perhaps that's part of where this originated too.
    2. 7-13-14 Sounds like a sick stomach

I dreamed that this girl I like and her family and I were antique shopping in a quaint little town. I had gone into a shop before the others. It was a music shop, and I was randomly strumming the strings of a bass, which was horrendously out of tune.

Suddenly, this girl walked into the shop and stood really close to my side. I strummed the strings, and they made a really weird noise. She asked what I thought it sounded like, and I said, "Like a sick stomach". She was about to hug and kiss me when the rest of her family came in.

Then I dreamed I had a lion costume. You know, like a cheap, stupid-looking Halloween thing. It looked totally weird, but a man who was an expert in lion costumes said I had the "right physique" for it.

Then my grandpa told me a strangely menacing story about the apostle Paul voyaging to America, travelling to the midwest and preaching to a farm full of animals, in particular a turtle. When I asked if the story was true, he merely winked and said, "I guess we'll see".

I dreamed I had to ward off an angry red-eyed bear from my house in Minecraft. It was terrifying!

A young woman was alone in a wilderness valley at night during a full moon. She was cursed. Blood to soak up the stems and into the petals of these strange lily-white flowers that were growing in the valley. Suddenly, the young woman was surrounded by ravenous hyenas. Then a silent movie actor appeared out of nowhere and saved her.
    3. Alien Invasion and a Limp Machete

I actually had this dream last week, so it's a fairly recent one. My nightmares have been less and less as the years have gone by but this one is a bit morbid so yeah...you're forewarned.

I was with my immediate family vacationing. Somehow my stepdad and sister had gotten injured. I didn't know how, all I knew was that we were in a doctor's office trying to get them patched up. My stepdad had a toe amputated and my sister had a gash on her side that was bleeding heavily. The dream started out with this and actually didn't focus much on this part.

They got their wounds treated and we left, driving along the freeway to our next destination. There were many cars around us and the environment was city-like, slowly turning into a suburban area. The landscape was fairly flat so we could see the sky pretty clearly. It started off as a normal blue sky with a few dusting of clouds and then all of a sudden it changed. If you've ever seen the picture someone photoshopped of what it would look like if Earth had rings like Saturn, this was it. Large rings appeared over the sky and stretched over the horizon. At first they reflected beautiful sunset colors, oranges, reds, pinks, and yellows (Red and yellow appear in my dreams a lot). It was quite magnificent to see and a little overwhelming. It steadily became brighter and then the lights went out of the rings and the sky began to darken. That was when large ships flew overhead and people started to panic.

For a bit it was like watching a series of trailer clips. It was just me and my mom now in the car stuck on the freeway of cars. At first we were driving, then we were stopped with the rest of traffic while tall square-like cyborgs walked around the cars, leaning to peer in at the terrified people within. I didn't get a really good look at them so I couldn't give you a detailed description of what the aliens looked like. They were tall though. I remember that.

The scene changed again and my mom and I were driving on a highway, nearing a more rural area of forests and mountains. I personally didn't think she was driving fast enough and was about to tell her to let me drive. A bunch of motel like cabins came into view and halted my actions. We stopped by the road and a group of people were at the entrance. A woman told us that the direction we were headed in had been taken over by the aliens. We were trapped. She told us we could bunk in her cabin and we agreed.

The cabins were a mix of different people, but most were kind enough and doing their best to help the other survivors. However, a couple of them looked like escaped convicts. One of them was a large burly man with long dark unkempt hair and a beard. He had taken to attacking some of the younger women in residence. I don't know if he did it discreetly or if people were too afraid of him to do anything about it. Unfortunately, my subconscious decided I needed to be a fly on the wall for one of his attacks. Obviously, I was disgusted and pissed because I couldn't do anything to help her.

When he tried to attack me one of my favorite video game characters (Fenris from Dragon Age 2) appeared and scared him off. Fenris was worried for my safety and wanted to stay with me to protect me. I thanked him for his help but told him I'd be okay on my own. He told me to at least carry a knife with me wherever I went. I agreed and strapped a Bowie to my thigh. Right after that the man came for me again, but this time I was completely alone. Enraged I pulled out my knife, only to have it turn into a saw-like machete that was as limp as a whip. As frustrated as I was that didn't stop me from beating the ever lovin' shit out of him. Finally he lay bloody and broken in a heap at my feet. He looked properly ashamed and guilty of his actions. He did ask me if the terror from the alien invasion could have caused his mind to break and make him attack those women. Icily, I told him that the invasion probably released what was already there to begin with (If he hadn't been in jail for that reason in the first place.) However, his words did make me stop and think, and I lowered my hand.

Even as he lay there baring his neck to me, accepting his death, I couldn't kill him. 1) Because my machete was limp, and 2) Because he was a broken and beaten man. Mainly he lived because my weapon wouldn't cooperate.

The scene changed to me standing in the double doorway of my cabin, looking out into the darkness towards the other cabins that were lit from within. We were on the second floor. My mom and the woman we were staying with, were in the living room behind me. Then out of the darkness a large shape came lumbering up to me. When the light hit it I saw a large wolf/hyena hybrid creature. He was big, his head almost level with mine. I panicked and tried slamming the wooden doors. He shoved against them and it was a battle of me trying to keep him out. At one point I actually grabbed him by the scruff and threw him back a ways. But he was persistent. Eventually I realized he wasn't trying to hurt me, just get inside. The doors nearly came off their hinges so I gave up and let him in. He sat and gazed at me while I ran my hands through his soft fur. At least I got a furry companion out of it, and a large one at that.

      The End.
    4. The Were-Hyena

      by , 04-07-1990 at 10:07 AM
Night of April 7, 1990. Saturday.

I remember only one more significant dream of a hyena to date thus far from before I came to Australia and even that one was precognitive in at least three separate layers. A mentally ill woman my sister knew had a birthday on this day and I did not want to be around her house at the time. However, it seems a relative of hers (named Martin, which makes me think of Mad Magazine’s Don Martin, thus part of my dream seemed vaguely linked to “Lena the Hyena” - the contest winning image by Mad Magazine’s Basil Wolverton that supposedly led him to fame) lives across the street and is out hunting or some such, but is actually a “monster” pretending to be hunting deer. There is some sort of plot relating to a hyena-man, who is like a “were-hyena” (similar to a werewolf) and going after people. I see “suggestions” of his shadow moving about on a few different walls of unknown locations. I wake slightly, but fall back into sleep at least once.

For some reason, I am thinking of the movie “Eraserhead” that I had seen about twenty times or more by that time, but never dreamt about much of the imagery before. I am thinking of the “little girl in the radiator” (from “Eraserhead” - but is actually listed as “the lady in the radiator” in the movie - she always reminded me of a young chipmunk or mutated child (or perhaps a seriously odd version of Betty Boop) - yet is here young Effie Elmer from the “Mourning Picture”). There is a scene similar to in the movie where the radiator is implied to open like a door onto a stage, but in this case, it is an actual carousel with balloons and lights (Effie is a “happy ghost” here just needing a friend and for the radiator to generate more heat).

I then seem to be having two dreams at the same time, the “Eraserhead-like” one and the “were-hyena” one. Eventually, I am aware that the “were-hyena” is in my street, near the house across the street. He goes after one of the college girls in the large house across from where I live and soon starts “laughing” insanely (like a hyena), the girl screaming (but the “laugh” being much louder). This was the only time I have ever heard such a disturbing sound. The image of Effie’s head, looking slightly to the right, superimposed on the radiator, changes into that of the monster “hyena man” in a sort of ghostly effect and is then staring out at me. I am still seeing it as I am waking, and it actually takes about 20 seconds or so for the hypnopompic hallucination to fade completely. The terrifying sound (in real-life) was caused by a horrid car tire sound skidding near the house across the street, with the tire seeming to actually be stuck in part of the street at the time or stuck in partially melted ice and dirt. I had never heard the sound before. This was followed by a girl yelling in real life about the problem.

Three precognitive layers discerned thus far:

      1. My dream had already set up the plot and approaching climax before my dream ended with the real-life sound of the horrid “laughing were-hyena” sound that did sound somewhat like a real hyena. This seems to imply that I knew I would be hearing that sound quite some time before I heard it that night while still in-dream.

      2. An episode of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” implied such a creature (and “demonic hyenas”). The episode was called “The Pack”. I had never heard of the concept before in real life until then. The episode, according to IMDb, aired on April 7th, 1997 (see above regarding April 7th, 1990 - IMDb has been known to be wrong, though).

      3. There actually was a book published in 2010 called “The Little Girl in the Radiator”, where one cover was much like my dream imagery of years before, written by Martin Slevin.

Also, as I was writing this, someone posted a dream about “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”; first time I have seen that show referenced on the dream journal site. This sort of synchronicity happens to me continuously.
