    1. Museum Gallery and Fragments for July 27 2011

      1. I go to the Cincinnati Art Museum with L.H. and Clinton McK. We're there for a special gallery that I've already visited. It contains primarily works by Normal Rockwell, but there are also cases filled with intricate old clocks. The centerpiece is an installation called the "Wall of Memories," which is comprised of hundreds of small video screens. Sometimes they each show a different scene, but the most impressive moments are when all screens act in unison to create a larger picture. An idyllic country scene starts to play as we leave the gallery.

      Clinton stays behind as L.H. and I head out. Unexpectedly, she breaks out into a run, and I have to move very fast to catch her. My movement is like a gliding run, almost a skating motion, but I am only wearing shoes. When we reach obstacles and stairs I vault over them, eventually ending up in an auditorium like that from a previous dream about the Cincinnati Museum Center. I recognize this and go very semi-lucid; sensations are more real but I lack control. For whatever reason I start eating a delicious hunk of Cheddar cheese.

      2. I go with L.H. as my date, to a grade school reunion, which ends badly. I distinctly remember myself saying, "These people made me the neurotic wreck I am today," but little else.

      3. I'm watching ice hockey, and the goalie is making a series of incredible saves.

      Started out with a fragment about teaching people how to make better cheese.

      Running up around a hill with my girlfriend Anna. She said "Speaking of I, there was this guy who was traveling." Then she took off at lightning speed and expected me to keep up. We came to the an area where maybe 10 or 15 freeways came up over the horizon and hill off to the far left. They were merging lanes in weird places and the highways cut across each other all-together in a couple places. Anna was already halfway across by the time I got to the first freeway and calling to me so I darted right out in front of traffic. I had to dodge back and forth and was running so fast my legs wanted to fall out from under me when I turned.. even after that I wasn't making to much progress so Anna came back for me and "pushed" behind me. We moved super fast in the right direction.. feww.. stopped to catch breath.
    3. Red Bugs, Nomad, and Hyu Chan

      It was early summer, and a bunch of obnoxious, red bugs had flown north from Mexico to reproduce in our humid climate. Everywhere I looked, I saw them… They crawled on my skin – especially the arms – and my laptop screen. I killed them, of course, but there were always more waiting to occupy the surface of my body. Sometimes they bit me, too. I was really starting to lose my peace of mind with all these buzzing bugs around me. I read through comments on my dream journal. I noticed that most of new ones were from the same person… His avatar was one of those red bugs! I sighed when I realized all but one of his comments were obviously spam. I erased those. His semi-legitimate comment consisted of a series of images and an accompanying narration. He posted this on my “Your Dreams” page. The comment described dreams of American ships churning out swastika-branded cheese wheels. They created these on top of some kind of tower in the middle of the ship. A rotating blade cut the swastika shape out of the bottom of the cheese as it rested atop the tower. I watched this happen as though I was flying over one of the ships. I was confused when I noticed the blade was tearing up the enormous cheese wheel… The cheese became stuck to the blade and eventually clogged up the whole system.

      The comment continued with a description of WakingNomad sleeping on the floor of a wooden shack. I saw myself on the floor, too, but I wasn’t covered by a blanket. Nomad burst aside, jumped to his feet (at this point, I realized he was naked, but he didn’t seem to care), and started shouting about the wonders of life. I slowly sat up. As my vision left the image, I saw this was the end of the comment. I decided I wouldn’t trash it. Unfortunately, as I scrolled down, I saw an advertisement for microwaves that I hadn’t put on the page… I realized he must have put something in the comment to cause this to appear. I temporarily marked it as spam while I scanned the comment text and removed the advertisement. Once this was taken care of, I restored the comment and replied, briefly explaining what I had taken out.

      The dream jumped. My parents and I drove around a shopping center. It looked like the one on the way to Nicole’s school. Whenever we came to a store we considered stupid or poorly managed, we pushed a button on a remote control to change it to another store. We only left two stores in the whole shopping center unchanged. The first was a huge laundromat run by Janet Jackson. Even though my mom does all of her laundry at home, she seemed to like this place… We changed it a few times to see what would happen, but she eventually asked me to change it back, so I did. The second was a clothing store run by someone named Hyu Chan. I got the impression that he was meant to be the Hyu from Dreamviews. A sign posted on the door warned us that only Hyu Chan was permitted to drop the “Chan” from his name – so if I called him Hyu, he would be furious. The man had buck teeth and bug-eyed nerd glasses. My dad walked over to the suits and criticized them, instigating Hyu Chan’s rage. He asked my dad to leave. I picked up a brochure on Hyu and found his website (www.hyu.co.eu or something like that). It was essentially a fan site for the company he worked for. As Hyu Chan admitted in his self-published brochure, it was a bit strange for him to create his own version of the company website, but that was how he chose to express his pride in his work.

    4. Cheese Casserole (Yumyum)

      I was in the basement of my own house, sitting at a computer desk with my sister. However, there was no computer, mousepad, or keyboard. There was nothing to suggest that there was a computer there. Instead, there was a black microwave on the far left of the desk, and I had just placed a casserole dish of some sort inside, which was in a rectangular glass dish. The top was coated with a good layer of cheese, so I couldn't tell what was inside yet. I pressed a single button on the microwave and the casserole began to "cook". Two patches of darker cheese started to bubble, which was a sign that it was done. It only took ten seconds or so. My sister watched the whole time as I took it out and waved my hand over it to cool it down.

      My mother walked through the back door upstairs. That door was right where the start of the stairway downstairs was, so I saw her come in. "I'm home," she called out and then I replied. "Hi mom, I made dinner!" I've never made dinner for her in real life before, especially not as a charity with no reason to.

      I took the casserole, all cooled off, into the washroom where my father was washing his hands. "Can you help me cut this? I'm not too good with these things." He agreed, and pulled out a random knife from behind him, starting to cut the casserole into sixths. I watched as the knife went straight down, and he pulled out a piece. The inside of the piece he took out looked like light pink and tan cake, not at all like a casserole. I looked harder and saw the insides of the other pieces still in the dish. They were all cheese and larger-than-normal macaroni noodles. "Thanks", I told him and took off to my bedroom, also downstairs.

      The lighting in my bedroom was dark, but it was brightened slightly by the light coming from the other room (where the computer desk was). I put the casserole on my bed and somehow managed to tilt it over. "Ugh," I muttered as a lump twice the size of my palm came out onto the light green bedsheets. I put the dish down to the side and tried to pick up the lump with my hand. It was gooey and more like silly putty than sticky cheese. It slipped out of my hand though, so I decided to just leave it there. I turned around and there were two massive garbage bags full of clothes and stuff in my room; they were almost as tall as me. I wiped my hand on one of them to clean it off, and left the room.

I took the magic helicopter and tried to pilot it. But in the end, I died. (Poor me...) That’s really gonna put a damper on my new sand eating habits….
