Morning of December 20, 2017. Wednesday. Bus to Bunk Beds I am aware of a double-decker bus in our neighborhood where we presently live. It seems to be afternoon. I see it pass three different times. After it stops for a time on the street and about two houses east of our house, I discover it is mainly now made of the bunk beds of our two youngest sons. I am annoyed because it may take some time and work in getting it back in our house. A singular vehicle, whether it is a bus, car, airplane, or boat, is typically a form of autosymbolism that stems from the illusory physicality of the dream state. In this case, it actually transitions to the dream state indicator of the bunk beds as further validation of how such autosymbolism forms in REM sleep, almost like a virtual reverse engineering of the dream sequence itself. This is quite common in my dreams and one of the factors that helped me understand dreams at a very early age. Lounge Room Enterprise I am lying on the lounge room floor in the morning when I realize our lounge room “is” the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701 from the original “Star Trek” series). At times, I consider if I am inconveniencing the crew by lying near the captain’s chair (to its right). No one says anything or asks me to move or get up. Additionally, there is not a viable sense of traveling through outer space in this case, though it is not implied to be the television series set either. Looking up at our television, which seems mostly normal, it shows stars and what looks like small curly hairs moving toward the viewer, our television apparently serving as the Enterprise viewscreen. This was similar to “Helicopter Not Landing Yet” (relative to its specific type of autosymbolism) from Christmas morning of 2016 and a number of other dreams since childhood. In such dreams, the vestibular system correlation associated with the illusory physicality of the dream state transmutes into a house or other building perceived as a vehicle, with various levels of ambiguity (including the essence of bilocation in some cases, which is common in my dreams). This includes dreams such as “Riding in a House Back to Arcadia”, where my Cubitis home travels down the highway as an oversized bus. “White Christmas” Not a Trigger I hear lyrics from “White Christmas” (sitting in the lounge room of our present home, possibly hearing it from a radio or television), but I do not catch this dream state indicator, that is, the phrase “I’m dreaming”. Such dream state indicators rarely trigger lucidity and if anything, keep me relaxed on the passive side of RAS mediation, even though they have occurred throughout every sleep cycle for over 50 years. That is moot though, since I seem to think it is near June rather than December and see it as unusual in that way, as being “unseasonable”. Along with “Theme Park Drive with Zsuzsanna” and “The Roof Factor”, 5 of 12 regular dreams for this date are presently online. (By “regular”, I mean other than the numerous hypnagogic dreams at the beginning of each sleep cycle, which are typically too many to count or feasibly record.)
[This is a catch-up post. These dreams are from the night of July 24-25, 2011.] Awake, Non-lucid, [Commentary made while awake] I'm driving my mom's red Honda Fit out past Katella Avenue to spend a weekend away. The rest of my family is already at my destination for the weekend. I arrive at basic training camp for the Navy National Guard, into which I have just been drafted. I enter the barracks along with several of my real-life friends from college. The bunks are stacked three high and are concealed behind cupboard doors. In between the bunks are shelves with metal label-holders intended to hold labels showing the names of the occupants of the bunks. These shelves are meant to be used to hold boxes of the occupants' stuff. I start settling in. Evidently, I've packed wisely for this experience, because the boxes I brought don't take up all the space that was allotted to me. I change into my new uniform. One of the items I brought was a small pair of scissors with blue handles [that I have in real life]. I realize that it was stupid of me to bring them, because they would get me in trouble if I were caught with them. So, I just fold up the labels with my name on them and slide them into the label-holders. Later, we're all sitting in a restaurant-style booth, choosing nicknames from a printed list. Mine is “Spider.” The nicknames for the officers are printed in a substitution cypher. I have absolutely no clue what tasks and training activities I'll be doing here, or what position I'll be assigned to. I hope I'll be able to handle it, especially swimming. [I think this may be the first time one of my dreams has accurately reflected the fact that I don't know how to swim very well in real life. I've had tons of dreams where I could swim expertly.] Basic training is beginning. Everyone is outside, standing at attention in a block, wearing their uniforms. I ask one of my friends to let me out of the booth so that I can run to the bathroom before going outside and joining the block. There is a girl with short, blond hair directly ahead of me in the line for the bathrooms. I think to myself that I ought to be thinking of it as 'the head' rather than 'the bathroom,' because I'm in the Navy, not the Marines. [Which is stupid, because as far as I know, the Marines say that, too.] Then I woke up, because I actually did need to go to the bathroom. [This dream was much longer, more elaborate, more vivid, and more detailed than these notes reflect. What I get for putting off typing this up for so long.]
The first on started with me seeing a top view (like looking down from a cliff at myself) of myself being pulled in a sled by dogs, wearing a fur coat. Suddenly, on of the dogs diverges and starts running the other way barking. The others are quick to follow, and I soon see that we are being attacked by wolves. I am suddenly on the cliff watching instead of watching myself. I decide to slide down to help and am quickly cornered by 3 wolves that smile at me as the growl, nearly giggling. I am suddenly where (I assume) is where I was returning to. There were two bunk beds and a couple people waiting for me. I tell them that there are wolves coming. They are confused how I could possibly know but prepare anyway, the wolves come, dream changes. (not sure if my person kept dieing so I became someone else? maybe...) There was another dream where a kid (I am pretty sure he is my son) is preparing to do a trick with bounce cards. (filmmaking light reflecting tool) He begins to fold them, some the normal way, and them some in half, which doesn't work irl. And then hands them to me and someone else who is there. I begin to think that he is not preparing but thinks what he is doing is cool enough to be a trick. He suddenly lays down and goes to sleep, but I know he is faking it so I pretend that I am going to eat him and grab his shoulders smacking my mouth and going "rawr rawr rawr" he starts laughing and saying "nooo noooo..." playfully. He is still trying to just lay there so I blow on his stomach making a farting noise. He laughs and laughs, but then for some reason seems suddenly and abruptly sick. He begins sneezing and is congested, snot leaking out of his nose and I begin to pat him on the back. He seems to only get worse until the dream changes. (I have been sneezing at night so, I think that is what it is) In the next one, I was in a house with little color except for blue drapes with floral print on them. There were two men that spent a long time trying to convince me that they were the best drapes ever and that the color of blue has never until now been able to be replicated. I had no idea why they were there, since it was a residence not like a store or something. But he yammered on until I woke up.
Spiderman Dream (non-lucid) I am go to buy a car but it doesn't have a steering wheel. Just a knob I use to play a Spiderman game. I navigate the halls of a funeral parlor and find a disfigured woman. In a cutscene, Spiderman profeses his love. Then, like the Scarecrow from Batman, or a bad trip, there is this twisted Hydralisk stained glass window the grows and twists, swirls. Pretty neat actually. Complete with ominous music. End of the World/False Alarm (almost lucid) My family is going out for dinner. Bro wants to go to a nice pub and we park. We see a tv outside with a map on it. The news said if the sun on the tv goes in a reverse direction, we have 30 minutes until a black hole swallows the sun. The sun does go in reverse. We begin driving home with the radio on. I don't believe this is happening and look at my hands. Normal. I try the nose plug excuse the failure. After the 30 minutes is up the sun is still shining and nothing happens. False alarm. General Tso's Chicken (dild) I find myself lucid in my room. I go out onto the roof and want to try and get a little further than usual. I fly to a local chinese restaurant. It's real vivid as I pass other stores and the gas station. I get up there and the women behind the counter is on the ground and looks sad. I order the food and am given shrimp. It is ok. I leave the building to explore but wake up. Bunk Beds with FA's (non-lucid) I am in my room and outside I see my neighbor and his daughter doing some weird stuff. Wearing masks and no clothes. We all laugh but focus on the task at hand. Building bunk beds. We re-arrange the room and I wake up. I go to the bathroom and wake up again. The room is still a mess and I go into the bathroom and wake up. It happens again but someone apologies to me and gives me a hug. I can't see the face. It happens again and I now know I am probably dreaming but can't hang onto it and wake up.
