Non-lucid dreaming -- Lucid dreaming
Hello! Well, I started writing this introduction last night, but I was really tired so I never finished it. Basically, I've wanted to have lucid dreams for years and have now gotten back into trying again. I mean I never really stopped thinking about it, but it hasn't been much more than "sure would be cool to have a lucid dream tonight, ha-hyuk". But one thing that I've been doing is recording voice notes on my phone whenever I wake up from a dream. I find this to be a pretty nifty way to get them saved. Especially since for me, rather than waking up refreshed, I ALWAYS wake up groggy. Even if I get 12 hours of sleep, I'll be kind of out of it. So I am way too tired to write; not only can I barely keep my eyes open but my writing is practically illegible. I end up making brief notes like "bridge lady town jump" that don't make sense later.
Up until this morning, I had only had two lucid dreams, one when I was 13, one like 3 years ago. But this morning I had one! I will describe it, but it seems like most of my dreaming is done in the morning. Or at least most of my memorable dreaming. When I'm woken up by my alarm clock and hit the snooze button, somehow that seems to trigger me to dream, because I do very frequently. So, I decided to take advantage of this! Last night before going to bed I found a really good text to speech thing online and recorded it and made my own sound file (complete with a beat n such) in Audacity. Then I used it as a one-time "alarm" to go off around 8 AM. It says "You are dreaming. This is a dream. [My name], you are having a dream. This is a lucid dream." I figured that since it's kind of short it wouldn't wake me up, but it might get into my subconscious and maybe a DC would say it or something.
However, my morning around 8 went differently than expected. First of all, I forgot my computer will just go into standby if nothing's going on (usually I open a torrenting program and seed so that it will stay on), so the sound didn't play. Then, I was super cold and had to pee. Lastly, my mom was playing The Doors and singing at a middling but annoyingly audible volume. So, I took care of the computer, the cold, and the pee, and set the alarm again for 45 minutes later. Success!
I was in some place and my dad wanted me to go talk to this girl. Somehow she had to do with his business, she was like a client or something and I was supposed to talk to her to something something. Once we were alone, however, we started having sex. I don't think we actually got all the way, but we were doing fun stuff. This is pretty much all I remember from this part, I feel like after that I like wasn't with her anymore for some reason and I was trying to get back to her. Next thing I remember, I'm lucid, baby! I don't remember hearing the recording I made, but whatever. I was in what was supposed to be my room, except everything was totally different (arrangement, furniture, etc.). The first thing that I did was try to stabilize by rubbing my hands together. However, the first time I did this I really felt like I did it in real life. This may or may not have been the case, but I thought so at the time, and the dream began to suddenly fade. I almost think that I woke up slightly but if so then I did a DEILD... I think this is what happened, except that as I said, I only partially woke up. I really wanted the dream to continue, so I kept focusing on it coming back and it did. So anyway, then I rubbed my hands together some more in the dream and it worked. I don't know if it increased my lucidity or not, but probably I guess. I didn't focus on the feeling really, which is the point. Unfortunately the dream is somewhat foggy, but then I know I was in the bathroom of my place (which was more like a studio apartment than just my room where I currently live) and I looked at myself in the mirror. It was pretty dark in the room but I could've sworn when I first looked in the mirror I saw small devil-horn-like protrusions on my head. I was like "Oh dear!" but upon further examination it was just my hair and I looked normal. Lol.
The next thing I remember, I was on a street in some Eastern European looking city. I know I thought to myself, "What should I do?" and since nothing else came to mind I thought "I'll go find that girl again!" Although I don't have specific memories of the first ones, I believe that I tried to open some doors while visualizing that she would be on the other side. This is something I would really like to have work for me, the idea is pretty awesome. I mean opening a door to somewhere else in general. Anyway, it didn't work. Then I remember going to this brick wall where there was a tiny door in the center. I opened it and inside there was this metal contraption thing, I suppose kind of like one part of a metal-link bracelet but on a much larger scale (the opening was like 9" x 12"). I started pulling it out and when I did it created a staircase leading upward. I climbed it, somehow knowing a door was at the top, and imagining the girl waiting for me on the other side. My image of her may have been too clear or something, though, because the next thing I knew I had a lot more to traverse than before. It was like somehow the stairs had taken me into what seemed like an elevator shaft, with the door at the top. Not only that, but there were grates placed horizontally in the shaft every 15 feet or so. I really have no idea how I was continuing to climb, but I was, although it was beginning to seem futile. I then had the idea to try to float or levitate up the shaft, and when I thought this hundreds of butterflies started floating upwards how I had imagined. I tried to sort of float on/with them but it didn't really work, I think this was because I didn't know how I was going to get through the grates.
The next thing I knew, I was back in my room/apartment (and in the voice note I referred to it this time as "my hotel room"). I'm pretty sure I just teleported there because I immediately tried to conceive a door and decided to draw one on a piece of paper and try to go through it. I remember seeing the door drawn on a piece of paper, but then my mom flushed the toilet IRL and it woke me up. Dag nabbit! I was pretty jazzed though and recorded it right away. I do wish I had DEILD'd, but I moved a bunch when I first woke up so it was a lost cause (though I feel like it wouldn't have been if I hadn't moved!!).
So, firstly, woo hoo!! That's my third LD ever! And first in like 3 years! And secondly, sorry about the preoccupation with sex. This dream has made me realize that I need to get some tasks! I want to create a list of simple goals to go for. Really simple things, sort of exercises which will test my dream control while also stabilizing the dream. I'm going to make a list of things I want to try, and then I'm definitely going to read other parts of DV for ideas, but if you feel like commenting please do!
Simple things I can think of now:
- Turn around slowly to fully take in the dream scene
- Try to conjure my phone in my pocket (perhaps use it to control the dream)
- Examine the clothes I'm wearing
- Focus on a DC
- Talk to a DC
- Examine something closer, feel a wall's texture, etc
More difficult seeming tasks I would like to achieve:
- Open a door to another location
- Fly
Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated! I'm going to go check out the TotM and TotY as well. YAAAY
EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot, I totally did the plug-nose-and-breathe thing 4 or 5 times, I think when I was in my room. It totally worked! I'm pretty sure the first couple times I breathed in, but the second couple times I breathed out, because I remember thinking that maybe I wasn't fully plugging my nose when air was coming out. I kept trying to fully plug it and I couldn't seem to, I had some thought about how you can't plug a water faucet with your hand. Either way it totally affirmed my lucidity (although I knew I was anyway).
