    1. Day Three: Intensive Journaling

by , 02-16-2018 at 05:29 AM (An Insomniac's Dream Journal)
      Fell asleep at: 10:30

      Woke up at: 7:10

      Missing: 75℅ Of Humanity

The dream starts with me touring an apartment complex in some big city. A movie theater is directly in front of the apartments, and I'm reminded of a city in Mexico (Those on the border to be more exact).

I look down into the city, and realize NOBODY is around. NOBODY. Not even a few civilians walking around, nope, nothing.

Naturally, I freak out. I try to look up information on my phone, which makes reference to some biblical catastrophe which would wipe out 75% of the population. But, I didn't process all of that information, and thought it was zombies that did it. Yes.

So, when my family came over, I proceeded to barricade the doors when it came time to sleep. I wake up in the early hours of the morning when a group of teen survivors (Two boys and one girl) come walking up the stairs and into the hallway.

The lights are off, and all three of them are carrying candles, presumably because their phones died. I let them pass, and went back to bed.

Me and my family had spent a couple of days surviving in those apartments, when my mom decided it was time to get out of there because of the cramped living situation. We gathered up our food supply, loaded all of our stuff into the trunk, and just before we left...

      Survivors.

They weren't hostile or anything, but there were very few of them to speak of. Maybe 4 or 5 people were out in the open.

My mom beckons me back into the car, and we went off to Tennessee.
    2. Bloody Gums

      Nightmare:

I'm in my parents' car when I start picking at the inside of my mouth. There's something...stuck up there.

So, logically of course, I pick at it with a freaking pair of scissors. I finally get that thing out (That think being a piece of my tooth); Then my gums start to bleed. I stuff my mouth inside a towel and wait for it to pass.

My mouth feels numb just thinking about it...
    3. Huh...

      Dream:
I think I'm in a warped, dreamlike version of my school, fused with one of the houses from the colonias near my town. It's all the usual dream stuff, just me walking around, minding my own business...

When the DC of my dead cousin shows up. And I am speechless.

Now, I'm not gonna sugarcoat things. Even though this was an experience personal to me, I felt like it was worthy enough to be talked about. It's nothing too graphic or too sad, so stick with me.

He's wearing a greasy looking pinstriped suit, a faded black with light gray lines. He looks unkempt, as was his style I guess. He was always the "cool" one, and often put his appearance first before anything (The man owned a leather jacket for Pete's sake).

Immediately I start choking up. He's on the other side of a chainlink fence but manages to jump over it because he could. I think he was talking about something, but I was too preoccupied dealing with my own anxieties.

"This is the one person I hate so much...How could he do this to us? Why does he still look so cool? How is this possible? The one person I try so hard not to emulate shows up in my dream, without MY permission? Typical. But...there are so many questions..."

He walks around for a bit; around a twisting, almost rotten tree, and peers into a window. Excited children flood the window, and he smiles back. I get even more temperamental.

He parkours his way up a wall, onto the roof, totally in line with his character. I think to myself:

"What do I talk to him about? How different are we? Why the hell did you do that to us? Will I ever see you again? Can you get the heck away from me?" My fist clenches trying to hold it in, and I choke up once more, on the verge of tears.

But I don't have any time to think.

The children whom he had met burst out through the door, and he jumps back down to meet them. I trail them all back inside through a red door to my right.

They're all laughing, having a good time, but I demanded an answer from him (Well, not really but you get the point) and still he had nothing left to say. The children have also done some excellent drawings and sketches on notebook paper, and I admire just how detailed it looks.

But I clearly have had enough. I stormed out of the room and went to contemplate this situation elsewhere.

I wind up in a big city. A parade seems to be going on in town as kids throw humongously large rubber dodgeballs at each other, cars pour in from every corner, and confetti rains down from above.

I don't take part in the festivities, I'm too shaken to even think. In the real world, that would've been the death of me. I walk callously across each gathering of students and even snake my way through busy traffic.

I come across a chainlink fence and think I should climb it, but thoughts of my deceased cousin crossed my mind, and I move onto something else.

And that's when the dream ended.

    4. Probably Not What Goat Meat Tastes Like But Whatever

      Fell asleep at: 2:00 AM

      Woke up at: 12:00 PM

      Dream:

It seems to me I am in the desert, almost keeling over due to the lack of food in my system. The "narrator" of the dream (Who sounds a lot like Oxhorn who, in short, sounds like Tom Hanks) says I am on a quest to find a "warm animal".

Apparently the temperature is so hot that animals in the desert literally cook from the inside out. I come across a dead goat, or some other creature like that, and pick apart nicely sliced pieces of meat from its body.

It tastes savory, but also something that could be served at a barbecue due to its peppery sort of taste. It's also kind of spicy, and the meat itself was reddish orange with black spots, implying it was cooked recently. It was, as expected, pretty warm for being recently cut meat from a goat's body. I snuck along a bag full of the stuff along with me.

I come across another traveller, but from this point on I don't really remember much. He talks to me about where he can find this meat, and I told him that those goats are all over the desert, not wanting to give up my share.

And the rest is all fuzzy images from that point on.

      Notes

      1. First time I ever engaged in taste in a dream, though non lucid. Sadly, I don't think goat meat counts as junk food so no TOTM for me.

      2. Now I suddenly don't feel hungry for some reason.

      Nightmare:

I'm in my room, reading notes on this particular bug that, if ingested, could cause a slow and painful death. The scientists shown on the paper are Albert Einstein and Michio Kako for some reason, though both aren't exactly biologists. They both have opposing viewpoints: With Einstein's being grim and Kako's being optimistic.

I'm drinking out of a cup of water and there I eat it. I accidentally swallowed the nightmarish bug, causing my body to slowly go limp. I inch out of my bedroom and make my way over to the restroom. I can barely stand on my own two feet, and slowly approaching death's bed.

I look in the mirror, a foggy one. The whole room was humid. Someone probably took a shower before me. Anyway, I wipe off the fog from the mirror and see myself, barely keeping my head up above the sink, with droopy eyelids that show the tissue behind them.

      Then I wake up.

      NOTES:

      1. A very vivid dream. I remember waking up with a sense of dread today and it took a few hours for it to wear off.
    6. Annoying Classmates

by , 12-09-2017 at 01:25 PM (An Insomniac's Dream Journal)
      Fell asleep at: 1:00 AM

      Woke up at: 5:00 AM

      Dream:

I'm in my Chemistry class. My teacher is sitting at his computer, you'll find out what that entails in a second.

My old friend-turned-acquaintance JJ is sitting to my right, incessantly complaining about....something. He's alsonot doing the assignment at hand, instead making one of those paper fortune-telling things. He directs his ire over to the teacher and doesn't. Shut. UP.

I HAVE to tell him something.

I tell him something along the lines of "Dude, shut the hell up. That's the FIFTH fucking time you said that. Be quiet, show some respect, and do your freaking work." Oddly enough, the class doesn't respond, but he sure does. He says something like, "How can I respect a teacher that can't freaking teach? Playin' games n' shit, damn..." See, in real life, my Chemistry teacher is, well, kind of a shy, bumbling newbie. During the course of his time at the school, everybody's been giving him crap. This carried over quite spectacularly into the dream.

Anyway, this sent me over the edge, but I know better than to act on emotion or instinct. I tell him, "It doesn't matter. He's the teacher, you're the student, so let him teach."

And just after I say that, my brother walks inside the classroom and hands me some car keys. I don't know exactly why he did this, and the dream ended shortly after that, but that wasn't what was important.

      NOTES:

      1. The same thing happened today during class. My classmates were actively taunting the teacher, one of them got especially unreasonable, and I told her off. No, I didn't cuss to such an extent as here. God, they're annoying.... Er, sorry, rant mode.

      2. I think this is one of the few times I ever completely acted like myself in the dream. To be honest, this dream was kind of therapeutic. I don't even know if I was lucid or not, it was that accurate.

    7. Another Zombie Apocalypse Dream

by , 11-26-2017 at 11:08 AM (An Insomniac's Dream Journal)
      Prelude:

Okay, so I had just rescued two new puppies about a few days ago. Yeah, sure, they're adorable and all that, but I don't think my mind has gotten used to them apparently. They pee and poop just around every square foot of my house in between when I take them outside to relieve themselves (Which is one every hour or two), and that stress of having to clean up after them directly ties into the dreams I've been having. Interesting stuff indeed.

      NIGHTMARE

I'm at a house in the countryside. The sky is red and the clouds are black, indicating a sunset. Me and some people I know take refuge in the first floor of the building. The second floor is filled to the brim with bats, so we can't go there. I don't exactly know what happened while I was there, but I begin to have a flashback to when the apocalypse first began.

It started during a normal school day. The flashback starts off with me and my friend, Eloy, running through the halls with a bunch of other panicked schoolkids. We discuss where or what class we should hole up in. I'm on my way to my Biology teacher, and he's on his way somewhere else. Funnily enough I was also moving in a chair with wheels while this is happening.

I lose track of Eloy, and I'm stuck, alone, in a barren hallway. I lost my way and I cannot find my Biology teacher. Immediately I start bolting it, running away as fast as I can from the hordes of zombies headed my way. I have never run so fast in my entire life.

"The past is dead, your fate is sealed."

Music plays in my head, highlighting the intense situation I am placed in. It sounds like the Biolizard theme from SA2 but with rewritten lyrics (That quote above is from that dream song).

I find the employee break room. There are a bunch of distressed, depressed teachers who have given up on survival and are waiting it out. I look through a box of appliances. I try looking for a knife to stab any zombies in the head in case one ever came by.

Instead I find a pizza cutter and some cookie cutters.

The dream ends not long after that, but I distinctly remember recalling my previous nightmare and how I couldn't punch or fight properly in that dream. It's possible I could have been on the cusp of lucidity.

      NIGHTMARE

The dream starts off with me and my family driving home. It's a bright, sunny day, nothing could go wrong, could it? Then all of a sudden my brother screams in terror. "It's a giant hand!!" He says. I look around for a couple seconds and see a huge, white hand pick up a car and crush it in its hands. It then seems to pummel the ground before it, sending us all into a deep panic.

"This is it, this is the end. No. No, no, no, no, no, this can't be real!" I think to myself, utterly frozen as to what's going on.

My mother swerves into another lane, cutting through some grass and to a less crowded lane. My mom floors it, but not before a strange, oddly polygonal being floats in with a plume of dust surrounding it. I don't quite remember what it did, but it killed more people in the dream. It was oddly ethereal in appearance.

But, due to all the surrounding chaos, my mom crashes the car into a large rock. Flames erupt around us, and the polygonal monster is back, surrounding us in a dust devil. A large, slimy monster with a million eyes starts trying to bust into our car, towards my mother and sister. I think, "Maybe this is a dream! Monsters, you have no power over me!", but to no avail. This slimy, green monster with a million eyes starts closing in on me and my family.

In a feat of rage, fright, and courage, I decide to kill it with my own two hands. I try punching it, but my punches felt weak, as if something were holding me down. I then do the most logical thing, and try gouging its eyes out. It's a disgusting display, but I wrap my hands around one of its eyes and smoosh it out of existence. I yell right in front of it as I try to inflict massive damage on this giant enemy slime.

Then the dream ended. It--it felt so REAL! As if I were to die at any moment! It was quite surreal, and I was more than ecstatic to have woken up and to be reminded it was all just a bad dream.

      NOTES

      1. This was my first nightmare I've had in months. Maybe stress? I mean, I did think the supervolcano erupted today (Don't worry, people were just burning sugarcane behind my house).

      2. I remember my arms felt weak during my "fight" with the Blogg (That's what I'm calling it). Another tell-tale dream sign to many people.

      3. I think I tried to get lucid, but due to the monsters overriding my power I wasn't able to get very far.
    9. A Pretty Eventful LD

      Fell asleep at: 10:43 PM

      Woke up at: 6:00 AM

      Dream:

Looking up random crap on my laptop, I begin to have thoughts of deja vu, "What if this is a dream?" I thought to myself. "That's ridiculous." I also pondered. But, I had to confirm my suspicions somehow. The internet is already a weird and, frankly, terrifying place, anything that seemed odd could be interpreted as 'expected'. So I just told myself I was dreaming, and I was.

Nothing specifically tipped me off to the nature of the dream itself. I just went with my 'gut instincts', luckily those gut instincts were correct. People didn't act like they should in the dream, places that I had never even seen before were just outside my neighborhood, but I digress.

I got up from my bed, when I realized that my vision was utter garbage. I told the dream to improve my vision, but to no avail. I try again, no dice. I went towards my desk and grabbed a comically oversized and uncomfortable pair of glasses, which helped a little bit. Then I try to fly. I begin to vibrate aggressively for a couple seconds before blasting through the roof. Somehow, I end up back in my room, unscathed and just as anxious.

My sister and her boyfriend open the door. I tell my sister ecstatically, "(No I'm not giving her name away), you're in a DREAM!!" She rolls her eyes (Of course), and her boyfriend just sorta shrugged it off. My other sister is also there, but for some odd reason, she's pregnant (This isn't the case in waking life). We walk out on the town upon my request.

There's this security guard lady who's checking people into a large building. She lets everyone else go and I go last. I try to phase through the gate, ubt she checks me in just as the gate opens for me. So, that didn't go so well.

We wind up in this train station/mall type area with a boatload of people all around. I try to follow my sister and her boyfriend through the crowded building, but increasingly lose distance. Then, out of the blue, a lady carrying a bazillion shopping bags and an overloaded shopping cart, all of which say "That's The Joke", comes barreling by.

I wake up right after that.

      Notes:

      1. This is actually the first extended lucid ream I had. Ever. It lasted about 20 or so minutes long and I didn't need to perform even one reality check along the way.

      2. I kept the same level of lucidity throughout, and just sorta went along with the dream. I think it might've been a layer 2 or 3 lucid dream, which is astounding for me.

Perceived dream time: A few minutes/A night

      Dream:[/U]

I'm in my bedroom with about 3-4 other people at night. They're all huddled up against the window, talking frantically amongst themselves about an alligator in the backyard.

I look out the window to find a slightly cartoonish looking alligator just...sitting there. It does not move one bit. To the left I spot a huge freaking Alligator Snapping Turtle. It is jagged and monstrous in appearance, and towers over the alligator in terms of pure height. To IT'S left I find a large Northern Spotted Owl with scarlet red eyes.

telling dream peaple your dreaming-another-owl.jpgTurns out these guys exist! Now I am never going outside ever again.

Immediately I hide under the covers of my own bed, hoping that by morning all three monsters would disappear at the turn of the morning. I hopped into my bed, closed my eyes for 3 seconds, and the morning came faster than the Roadrunner. The dream ended shortly after.

      NOTES

      1. This was the first dream I had that incorporated a "Time Skip" to some extent.

    11. Pretty Chill Emo Dudes

      Percieved dream time: ???

      Dream:

I'm in a bedroom filled to the rim with movie and video game paraphernalia. There are bookcases filled to the brim with DVD's and video game box covers (Of which they seem to be mostly Xbox 360 games due to the distinctive green boxes they came in).

There's a stereotypically emo looking dude in the room (His girlfriend is also there too but I never get a clear look at her). And we're actually pretty cool with each other in the dream! We exchanged jokes, went into deep discussion about our shared interests (Video games obviously), and at one point I experienced genuine, wacky laughter in a dream!

Apparently I had a video game who's sprite varied depending on the region you bought the game in and what time it came out. We were searching on my phone about who had the very rare Dark Blue color variant that came with the first few copies. Only to find out it was a 10 year old kid who wouldn't shut his mouth.

"HA! I retro-fagged before all of you guys! I'm a MILLIONAIRE HAHAHAHAHA!!!" I believe is what he said (And, no, I don't promote the term 'retro-fag').

We laughed so much at that given moment that my face had a permanent smile fixed on it for the entirety of the dream. We joked about it, reciting Videogamedunkey by saying "I'M A MILLIONAIRE" and "HERE COMES THE MONEY".

That was until my sister called me out of the room and I had to go. Maybe I should see that guy again, make him my dream guide. Hmm...

      NOTES

      1. As it turns out, the emo dude (In the dream) is actually a millionaire. The DC, not the real life counterpart.

    12. Elevators. And lots of them. And mirrors. Can't forget about that.

Dreamtime: 30 minutes of supposed dream time

      Dream:

I'm in a fancy hotel somewhere with two to three friends. We were exploring the hotel, going inside elevators, checking the rooms out, and generally doing a whole lotta nothing. I'm in a room with a big mirror to the right. I instantly recoil at the sight of it, not wanting to look at any mirrors in a dream due to all the unpleasant experiences people have with them in dreams.

I instead head to an elevator. I walk inside and suddenly, Slenderman. Now, I don't believe in the suited faceless freak, but that didn't stop my subconscious from shoehorning it in anyway. I keep my eye on him, fearing he might do something if I'm not looking.

The elevator opens up to a narrow pathway outside of the hotel. There was no guard railing, and it seemed to be nighttime (There was also an aurora borealis forming in the distance).

I head into another elevator and there is both a mirror AND the Slendydude inside of it. I look away from the mirror and focus squarely on the white faced man. The dream ended right after which.

      NOTES:

      1. The dream was impressively vivid. Too bad this ended up being even more vivid than my own LD but whatever.

    13. What A WILD Ride

by , 09-14-2017 at 11:57 AM (An Insomniac's Dream Journal)
      Fell asleep at: 12:00 AM

      Woke up at: 5:00 AM

DREAMTIME: 20 minutes of perceived dream time.

      Pre-Dream State:

Yup, this is a WILD. Okay, so I went to bed at 12:00 AM, but I had also fallen asleep for 4-5 hours beforehand, so I think I was in a state where I could easily initiate REM even if I didn't want to, and I did.

Out of nowhere, my body began to shift into REM Atonia (Or as I and many others like to call it, Sleep Paralysis) and I began to hear slight snippets of audio as I'm making the transition. I also began to see small flashes of light, and my body also felt like it was convulsing WILDly. I was almost scared shitless, the only saving grace being I knew I was going to transition into a dream at the end of it. I was scared that hallucinations of demons would pop up out of nowhere, but I had to keep my eyes shut and suppress those thoughts as hard as I could.

For what seemed like an eternity of blaring lights, body shifting, and small noises, I had finally, finally transitioned into an LD. I think it only lasted for 30 seconds, but shit like that makes you REMEMBER stuff goddammit.

      Dream:

Anyway, I transition into a sort of dungeon lit by torchlights. For some reason there are girls in front of me that are inside giant Tabasco sauce bottles (Don't ask). I walk up to one of the girls (I think she was brunette, about my age) and tilt the bottle forward, and somehow end up covering her with chili powder. I don't know if my subconscious was being clever or not but here you go.

The other girls next to her laughed and proceed to egg her on about the whole thing, but my eyes were fixated on another row of girls to the right, this time not inside of oversized spice bottles. I think of striking up a conversation with them, but I dismiss the thought entirely, and end up walking up to some kind of large metal door with orange trim.

I walk through the door to find myself in a wide open tundra. It is the most beautiful, yet the most frightening thing I have yet encountered. My mind begins to race with thoughts of freezing up and dying in my own dream, but I suddenly begin to realize how null my body is to the cold, and my worries melt away. I keep traversing this surreal white acropolis (Thumbs up if you get the reference) when I come across a nice, temperate looking area with orange grass and where you can see the sunset.

It is almost alien in appearance. The saturated orange color of the grass itself accompanied by the fact it was right next to a frozen landscape. It was also a mountain high up in the sky, to add to the craziness.

I wind up finding a couple of my real life friends (Though I can only remember one clearly(Let's call him E)). I talk to 'E' for a bit, Lord knows what the hell I was talking about, but the tone of the conversation seemed to be pretty lax all in all. And no, I didn't try to convince him it was a dream.

I try to fly in this dream, but end up stumbling in the air (If you can picture that) and falling right back down.

I go back to the frozen landscape I was in, and get lost in thought as I lose lucidity and thus lose the dream.

      NOTES

      1. My memory of the LD seems to be highly muddled by my other dream that I had right after this one, so details are a bit sparse.

      2. This was most definitely a WILD.

      3. The LD seemed pretty long (About 20 minutes or so). I didn't need to do any reality checks along the way either as I seemed to have a consistent level of lucidity throughout.

For some reason I'm playing Pyramid Cave with Knuckles on my Wii (With a GameCube controller). The stage is essentially a large halo around two bottomless pits. One in the center and one surrounding the outer perimeter of the ring.

I'm gliding around the stage, and this one gust of wind keeps knocking me into the bottomless pit as I attempt to speedrun the stage. I eventually get fed up and hop into a yellow toilet with Knuckles still being in control.

The perspective then changes to first person as I (In my dumb, dreamy state) am holding a GameCube controller in my hand; now controlling Gamma from Sonic Adventure. I'm in a yellow, empty sewage pipe and I'm walking from one side to the other.

After reaching a dead end, I then decide to turn back where I came from. An air of uneasyness bestows upon me as I look around every corner, as if I was imagining something was gonna jump out and scare me. Gamma disappeared at that point and I was there, alone, in the sewer pipe.

I make it to the end of the pipe (Where for some reason there is a broken down toilet inside a stall and an unused sink next to it.

My mom and her 'friend' (Who didn't exist in real life but was just a DC) then open a door. I then breathe a sigh of relief. They start talking to me about something, but I go back out through the door, where the dream then ended.

      Notes

      1. I seemed to have a dreamlike acknowledgement of the dreamscape. As I feared something would pop out at me because it was a dream and all part of my imagination.

      2. The color yellow was very much prevalent in the dream. Everything in the sewer was yellow, except for the one puddle of water I stepped in.

      Fell asleep at: 11:00 PM

      Woke up at: 7:00 AM

      Pre-Dream:

I read about lucid dreaming right before I went to sleep, which may have influenced the dream itself.

      Dream:

The dream starts with me typing something down on Google Docs. The thought of lucid dreaming crosses my mind, and I remember the fact that using technology in my dreams are a common dream sign. I'm not entirely lucid yet, but I pull my head back and look at the wall.

There is a wire frame face on the wall (Which strangely enough looked like the Alpharad PFP), and suddenly it dawns on me.

I close the laptop and try to adjust my vision. It clears up (kinda) and I walk over to my curtains. It is still nighttime in the dream.

The night sky is a dark purple gradient with orange lights all around the 'bottom' of it. I try to change the setting by making it daytime, but I only make it go up a few hours (5:47 if you wanna know). I then try to stabilize myself using reality checks, but then I lose focus and lose lucidity. Funny thing is I was scared my finger would get stuck in the palm of my hand so I skipped that one. The nose RC worked as expected.

      NOTES:

      1. Long term memory tends to carry over a lot in my LDs. I remembered to do reality checks, my dream signs, and to focus. I'm not sure if short term would work the same however..

      2. For the most time I was pretty well composed. I didn't try to talk to any DCs, I didn't freak out and wake myself up, so overall it was a good LD, if short.
