    1. First log, Some dreams from last night

      by , 08-03-2010 at 12:33 PM
first attempt at DILD failed last night.

I am standing on a bridge in my hometown looking up river with some of my friends. The river is fished a lot in the past by my father and I. We notice that there is a large triangle shaped of inordinately large fishing rods.

I triy the check hands technique to assert i was sleeping, as i look down to my hands I am greeted with the site of a fishing hook poking through my "rod" from top to bottom. One of my friends, Craig, steps forward and pulls the line (as is his character to wind me up in any way possible). I am generally not phased by pain so this was not a nightmare. I then went to a small bathroom and removed the lure. I attempt to urinate and, of course, like a bad comedy movie this results in my "rod" working rather like a hosepipe with holes in it. Roughly at this point my girlfriend inadvertantly elbows me and i am awake.

The next dream I am playing a new version of resident evil with Craig (again), the game becomes the dream and i am running around a virtual world. After 60 minutes (possibly borrowed from the real videogame, Napoleon total war) I lose the game and a super monster appears. The super monster has the body of a gorilla walking upright, with the head of george bush and a stars and stripes top hat, it picks up a car and throws it at the vehicle i am in killing me and ending the dream.

The last dream I am in a hotel with my family waiting in the foyer, we get annoyed at waiting so long so I go to find where my father is. He is at the bar with 3 other people (one may have been my uncle). I hassle him to hurry up (he does this in real life!) and he jokes about. I go outside the hotel and I am sitting on a bench with a girl from my hometown. The bench is on a mountain - i realise I am in my hometown and my family are in america. At this point my girlfriend starts messing about with my internet connection (?) and i get annoyed at her and ignore her.

      That was last night....
    2. 03-08-2010 First Semi Lucid

      by , 08-03-2010 at 12:13 PM
So last night i tried having a DILD again. With some positive phrases of me remembering my dreams etc etc.. And it worked Although my dream recall sucked a bit because i didnt write it down imideatily.

What i can recall though is walking through a marsh. On my way somewhere important. I recall looking down and seeing the water/mud soaked grass and ground... Then all of the sudden i was like... wait a minute im dreaming.. I dont know what triggerd the dream though.. In the end i kept walking on my merry way. I came to a lake and said a phrase that i dont recall and a platform rose out of the like with a sword. I remember thinking again. I must be dreaming and i felt all exited.. I took the sword from the platform and for some reason it fell apart... I started putting it back together and then woke up..

    3. First Lucid Dream after joining Dream Views

      by , 08-03-2010 at 11:25 AM
So yesterday I decided to try and have a lucid dream. I was very tired so I knew I couldn't generate a WILD so I was aiming for a DILD. Either way I traid MILD untill falling asleep. Unfortunatelly, as predicted, my tiredness overtook me and nothing was acomplished, I felt asleep immediatly with no change of aweareness in my dreams.

Only in the morning, I started having more clear and longer dreams. I didn't realize I was dreaming, yet this awareness was starting to grow, from dream to dream. Can't remember very well how it actually worked, but when one of the dreams finished I remembered last nights research in this forum and decided to put it to practice. I didn't open my eyes, I just felt myself laying on the bed and decided to resume my previous dream. Immediatly I remembered to imagine myself spinning, I read that somewhere and was eager to try. It didn't take long until I was again in a dream scenario yet aware and consicous. I could feel myself waking up and so I insisted in the spinning... it was then that all happened.

I woke up standing on top of my bed. Everything looked real and my main concearn was to check up the alarm clock to see the time - 13h00. I walked around amased in my room, feeling everything so fresh and real as if awakened, even my vision was a normal first person view. I could see my hands but they were blurry. Quickly I started to awake the lucid dream, switching to a brief regular dream. The experience took only a few seconds.

Now, I right this journal still in bed. It isn't 13h00 but 11h08. Only now I realize how wrong the room was, with the bed in the wrong direction and I don't even have an alarm clock. So, I was lucidly knowing I was dreaming but couldn't catch those dream signs.

all in all, it was a wonderful experience, specially the sensation of chainning the dreams together...

    4. Event at summer house

      by , 08-03-2010 at 11:24 AM
Recently my sleeping pattern has changed for some reason. Before, I was never tired before 3 am and I would often not get tired until as late as 5 or 6. When I slept I often woke up after a dream, letting me write it down to remember it. This could happen several times a night. Now however I get tired at 11 or 12 pm and I get to sleep about 1-2 hours later. I don't wake up after dreams anymore but the last three or four days I have been waking up at ~9 am, remembering dreams but too lazy to get up or write them down. Then I fall asleep again after quite a long time. About one or two hours after this I get up.

      Last nights dream:
I was bathing in nydala with some friends. I can't really recall how many we were but Fred was there at least. Suddenly, Kim showed up, lol. I don't know how she appeared. We all got surprised and asked her to join us for some event that was being held at my family's summer house. We swam there and we talked about a swimming technique that consisted of lying on the back while wriggling like a snake kinda. xD It was extremely fast but you could easily lose control and be forced below the surface. We all tried to use it and eventually we got to the summerhouse.

The event was some kind of gathering of random people that did planned stuff. Like some arranged party or something. Most of the people were foreigners. Kim proposed that we all should play some ball game, then she said something to a random dude in fluent german, lol. Everybody (maybe 15 people) lined up for the game in two separate rows facing each other. I think the goal of the game was to throw the ball to each other i between the rows or something.

Before the game started, a arabic looking man came out from the summer house. He was the chef and requested that three volunteers would go and help him prepare the dinner. No one seemed keen to do it because everyone wanted to play the ball game. Then he decided that he should pick three randomly. I knew before that he was going to pick me and I felt a bit disappointed because of it. He did indeed pick me and I went with him to the front porch along with two other randoms that also were unlucky.

We sat down around a table for four people and started to eat dinner (what happened with preparing it? xD). I remember that my friends were all seated at other tables and I wanted to join them, but I was not allowed to. Instead I spoke a bit with the chef guy who looked arabic. The only thing I remember from the conversation is that I asked him what country he came from. Apparently he came from the country "hentai", lol. I recall that I noticed that he expected me to laugh or something, but I didn't because I knew that hentai was also a country and the guy was somewhat impressed that I knew that.
    5. One Weird Dream

by , 08-03-2010 at 10:43 AM (Purple Trees and Zombies: Trippy Dreams of an Artist/Writer)
I was in my house, but there was a robot in the kitchen, one of those probe-types that would go into uncharted territory. Something is wrong with it, acting funny. A bunch of DC's are there trying to figure out what is the problem. There seems something sinister about it. My cat keeps wanting to go in the garage and lick this weird substance in there. I keep taking her away from it, but she keeps finding ways to go back.

Either the robot goes into the garage, or my cat, not sure. But it licks the green goo on the floor and starts mutating. I lock the door and hurry outside. There is a kiddie pool there with people (same people?) swimming in it. I shout the robot is mutating (cat?). They look back and start screaming. There are tentacles coming from the garage window, sliding down the side of the house, but they are striped like a candy cane (wtf?) I hop the fence and start running through the neighbors yards, and a blond girl is with me. We seek refuge in some guy's house, who's home, and turns out to be a weirdo who makes ritual sacrifices. I remember the interior of his home was in all red carpet and gold accents. He catches the blond girl, but not me. I run and hitch a ride on the roof of a moving RV . The guy inside is talking to a bill collector saying he doesn't have the money for his vehicle. He hangs up and it breaks down. I'm standing there, and one of the people from earlier come over and say it's okay, the robot/cat isn't hurting anyone. The transformation is over.

I go back inside my house, living room, and there is a odd dog there, a cross between a dog and a platypus. It's very playful. Apparently - one person explains - the tentacles were from a cocoon, and it was only defending itself. I keep petting the dog thing and it licks me.

      I wake up.

    8. First Induced LD{WILD}

by , 08-03-2010 at 09:28 AM (Lunar Chronicles)
I had my first LD on friday =D
So my sleeping arrangment was weird. I woke up at my dad's house at about 5:45 and went to my gran's house at about 6:00 and tried to WILD in her spare bed at about 6:30. After a while of WILD and after a bit of HI I lost the HI and decided to fall asleep normally. I only shifted my position.

So this wasn't a dream but a third person dream scene. I knew it wasn't real/ or a full dream. It was like this: I went to a recording studio where a singer was recording a CD, the studio was in an extremely high treehouse. I was on the edge of the platform with some friends. M was trying to push me off the edge and i was trying to push him. I told him that i had stopped pushing him so he should stop. He then stopped. After he stopped i still felt a pull and i fell off the platform. The dream scene became first person and i thought "I should control this before i fall" and i stared at my hand which instantly became vivid. Then i woke up (false awakening). I thought i was really awake and i got up and saw i had broken the glass table in my sleep. I considered doing a reality check but i thought everything was too vivid. There was a PC behind my gran's couch (which i woke from) playing heavy AC/DC. Then i heard a man (possibly my cousin) talking to my gran. I realised my gran was coming and the door was open so i tried to 'fake sleep' which put me in a stupid position. My gran walked past and never realised. When she passed i tried to put the glass together on the table to fix it - i fixed it perfectly and heard my gran coming again so i fell on the couch again. When i got up it hit me - I didn't fall sleep on the couch that morning; the AC/DC was very loud but only i could hear it; my gran didn't have a PC; i knew there was only my gran in the house and the glass table fixed itself. So i realised i was lucid. Everything was extremely vivid and i could feel these 'dream eyes' were not my real eyes and i completely forgot to stabalize the dream and i woke up.

    9. I am a Daydreamer

      by , 08-03-2010 at 08:57 AM
I thought that lucid dreaming was something far out of my reach. I thought that being lucid meant having complete and total control of your dreams, your thoughts, manipulating everything down to the deepest most secret wants of your subconscious.

But I read many of the information about the mental processes of Lucid Dreaming, and all the different techniques that are used. I even read a little about people's experiences with daydreams. It came to my astonishment that not only is lucid dreaming much easier than I thought, but I had been doing it all my life. O:

Ever Since I was young I've had a problem with paying attention in class, a curse that has followed me up to this very day. I like to believe that I have some sort of chronic narcolepsy that only occurs when I'm bored, that would make it a lot easier to explain why I always seem to fall asleep in classrooms. Or it could even be some sort of side effect of my over active imagination, ADD and my ADHD. But whatever the case it gave me the curse of sleep, but the gift of dreams.

Let me see if I can explain my crackpot theory on why I believe I go to sleep when I get bored during class. I believe that when I become bored my mind retreats from reality to cure my boredom and begins to daydream, like anyone would, but what I think is different is that my mind somehow triggers a REM cycle despite my being fully awake. Once I'm in a bored state of mind, all it takes is for me to let my mind wander until I begin to daydream and focus on a single theme or story. At first it starts out like any other daydream, I see the images in the back of my head while still listening to the lesson being held, but once the daydream has solidified itself I begin to become extremely tired almost immediately, my vision fades and becomes blurry, my eyelids droop, the noises from reality start to dither off and fade away, and my body begins to feel heavy. My daydream plays itself out the entire time, now taking full control of my attention though, it no longer requires my input at all, events and occurrences play themselves out without any help from me. I would say that I started a LD by crafting the scene and starting objects and custom fitting the dream to be however I want it to be, but then letting it go and just watching it grow. My daydreams usually follow a storyline of some sort and eventually end, allowing me to open my eyes and return to reality, but what I think differs my experience with others is that I am able to create my entire daydream world, and use it as a gate into a lucid dream, then back through the gate into waking. My body never falls asleep and I think I skip a few steps in the process of lucid dreaming. I also don't know if it's normal but I'm also instantly wide awake again after the daydream ends, it's as if I never even dreampt.

But there are some downsides too: I can be brought out of these states very easily, like any daydream but not deep sleep. (which I think is weird because I'm a heavy sleeper so being in the same state of mind I would think it'd be hard to wake me up)
It does not help me feel rested in any way, even though I'm sure that I'm entering a REM cycle and a dream state.
Sleep paralysis does not always activate itself, or it does not hold up throughout the entire dream, I often flail my arms or kick my legs out when returning to reality. (but that could also just be me, although I've never done that when I'm asleep at home.)
Having boredom as my trigger is not very good because I cannot help but to fall asleep, and it takes a lot of mental effort to pull myself back from the brink of sleep, plus it usually only buys me a few more minutes of consciousness before I totally succumb to the feeling.
A lot of times a chance for a LD is missed because if I start to daydream without thinking about anything, I just have a waking dream. (again, might just be me though.)
Since I'm sitting down in an upright position the entire class session without moving I often have achy joints or numbness and sleep paralysis in my legs.

But of course these are only my assumptions about what I think is happening, feel free to shoot down my ideas with facts if you want to.
But I know for a fact that in cases of extreme boredom I am able to Lucid Dream while daydreaming.

    10. Tornadoes and Trucks

      by , 08-03-2010 at 07:59 AM
Well, this was a rather interesting dream. For the second night in a row, I was driving in a vehicle. The dream started off on some sort of downwards sloped, dry grassy hill. At this point, I either hopped into, or was placed into (I can't remember which) some sort of short, yellow, semi-fortified vehicle, which reminded me of a smaller, flatter tractor. Once inside, however, it just felt like a normal car. At this point, I started driving up a dirt road, which then led onto a highway, with cars going both directions (i.e., up the hill, and down the hill). It wasn't a winding hill, as such, it was a hill that went straight up, and then followed around a bend. The road for the main part of the hill was a bitchumen road, and the dirt road I was driving on continued upwards, splitting from the bitchumen road, but staying next to it (only difference being that it was rising). At this point, I chose the bitchumen path, which was a wise decision, as tornadoes started to come down the dirt road, from higher up the hill. The majority of them passed by me with little effect, though some of them started to pull on my car quite strongly. I think I recall one of them nearly pulling the car off the road, though I'm not entirely sure. My memory is blank until the next event:

This is a bit vague, but I recall being back on the original grassy hill again. My cousin was there, and I think there was some sort of watchtower. He was also in a vehicle, though the seemed much smaller now - kind of like vehicles that you could wear around your waist, but still drive. I don't recall much more, except that there was a third person there, and my cousin was at one point significantly taller than I was (in his vehicle), and there were spiders dropping off him and onto the ground, and onto me - possibly biting me, but I'm not sure. It was at this point that the mild panic and fear caused me to wake up in quite a groggy state.

This put the following idea into my mind - breathing based Reality Checks. Breathing is obviously one of those muscles that are both involuntary, or voluntarily controlled. This led me to think, if you're in a dream, chances are, you aren't thinking about your breathing, therefore it's involuntarily controlled, and most likely synced to your real breathing. I thought, perhaps as part of my regular Reality Checks, I could incorporate breathing into it, and think "Is the type of breathing I'm doing about right for the situation I'm in?", with the thought that if I have an adrenaline fuelled dream like this again (tornadoes would be quite scary in real life), that in my dream I may think - "Hey, there's Tornadoes, maybe I should be breathing a little bit quicker?", in the hope of realising I'm dreaming, and then turning lucid.

    11. Driving Around

      by , 08-03-2010 at 07:57 AM
I was in my house (well, the house was mine in the dream, but not the same as mine in real life). There was one lowered section, where I was, and one raised section, where all the sleeping people were (Mum and Dad specifically). I think it was about 2am. I decided to drive to go eat some pie. I snuck out the house, and went for the drive. It was the first dream I recall having at night time, so that was quite interesting. I drove down the road near my house with the speed bumps, but there were too many people turning left onto the main road, so I went back around the block, and turned left at a different location. I turned in front of a large truck, and had to accelerate quite quickly to avoid it. I don't recall if I ever made it to the pie shop, because the next thing I knew I was back inside, and my Mum was scolding me about needing to book the car in some sort of online form and seek prior permission before taking it out at night. I was being scolded by a post-it-note, rather than in person.

*May recall something about driving near my old school at this point, but don't know specifically*

      Emotions Felt:
      • Fear (at being caught)
      • Excitement (about the pie)
      • Frustration (upon waking, at not recognising the weirdness of the dream, and then turning lucid)

    12. First dream recalled in a long time

      by , 08-03-2010 at 07:53 AM
Some of my day themes crept into my dream last night. I dreamt that my VPS provider, Linode, had started offering smaller plans for lesser cost (including 78MB of RAM as the smallest). I decided to go for a walk to find their main office, and sign up there (somehow signing up on the web wasn't an option in the dream). I went for a walk, and as it turned out, they had multiple offices along the street - the street was like one out of a "Rocky" movie, where all the houses are kind of similar to apartments, and have stairs going up to their doors. The first office I went into had 3 people lying down on green, flat, dentist chairs. They were being injected with a liquid that put them into a sleep, slowed their perception of reality down by 70 times, and allowed them to recognise that they were dreaming. Effectively, because they were put under for 1 hour, they were being given 70 hour lucid dreams. Once they fell asleep, they had some sort of goggles put over their eyes to increase their visualisation ability. After I saw this, I walked out the building and continued down the street to try and find their main office. I don't think I ever found it. When I walked back past the other building, there were people coming out of it throwing up, presumably as a side effect of the injection. This is all I remember.

      Emotions
      • None

      Setting/Scenario/Atmosphere

      • Autumn
      • Cool/warm wind (as an emotional feeling/knowing, rather than directly feeling)
      • Leaves blowing
      • Quiet street
      • Mid arvo/early evening (low soft sun)

      NON-DREAM DREAM LUCID

Not an amazing night. I went to bed thinking in my professional situation and I did not focus a lot on dreams. Three last night. Mostly fragmented:

      Third:

A lot happened here, but I cannot remember, only the last piece of the dream.

I was talking with a female DC about something I cannot recall. I was looking for WakingNomad to go together to the moon. I walking with this DC to a place where we found a white rocket that would allow me to go to the moon
(I flew tons of times to the moon... I do no need a rocket... why I dreamed that? Go figure... I was not lucid) I did not said to the DC that I was planning to meet WakingNomad. We got inside the rocket. It had several buttons with a lot of lights. I touched a couple of buttons and I heard a very loud alarm. The rocket started to shake.

I finally told the DC that we were going to the Moon to meet with WakingNomad. I told her that we had food and also we had a table with food and 10 full days worth of oxygen. I was unsure about how to return. I woke feeling happy.

      Missed Dream Signs:
      - Inside a rocket.

What I would have done if lucid:
      - Go to the moon and have a Dream Sharing experience with WakingNomad & company (without the rocket though, I fly very easily in my lucids)

      Second:

      - I was indoors.
      - There was a woman that needed surgery.
      - The doctor would put her against the wall, but in the next room. The he grabbed a trumped and placed it on the wall. He blew very had and made a very loud noise. I wondered if the insane sound would know the patient off. I opened the door and I saw the patient knocked out by another wall. I realized that the waves pushed her to the back wall. She hit her head and got knocked out. I realized that it was a dangerous way to do it. She started moving so I witnessed it was not a good idea.

This dream was very long, but I lost it. Rarely happens to me, but it did.

      Missed Dream Signs:
      - The way the doctor trying to induce anesthesia on the patient.
