Memorable Dreams
I haven't updated my online dream journal in ages. I've been keeping a fairly consistent paper one, recalling at least a single dream on most nights. This one, however, was rather interesting. I wasn't quite myself; it was as if I was playing a character, a role. I was the son and sole heir to a rich and prestigious family. This seemed to be set in a time before electricity at the very least. However, there was a strange circumstance; for the inheritance of the family to be passed onto the heir and not entailed, it must be given to the daughter of the family (who never did exist). As a result, I, as the son, had to dress as a woman. I recall a very tidy blue dress with a white pinafore, and attempts to make my medium-length hair look more convincing. In any case, this seemed to continue on for some time; cut ahead to a scene of chasing the father around a garden, passing by some decorative tiles in the garden which struck me with their beauty, and eventually, meeting someone. This is the part I remember best. A very, very tall and fairly broad man with unusual features. His face was deformed somehow, noticeably asymmetrical. He had a short but shaggy beard, glasses and possibly a lazy eye. I'm unsure if his features were distorted as a result of being an unclear dream character, but I have never seen anyone like him. I was rather drawn to him; in spite of his possibly frightening appearance, he was very kind and rather intelligent. Unfortunately, he was of a lower social standing. In spite of that, I disregarded societal norms and sought his interest, to be rewarded with it in turn. It was quite interesting to me. It seems to play a lot on gender identity and overlooking outward appearances (or first impressions) of other people to see what lies inside. It was certainly memorable.
This one comes from a few nights ago as well. You'll see that something bizarre happens; if it's happened to anybody else, please share your experience! This is one of many dream fragments I recall from this particular night. I was at a nice restaurant with white tablecloths and elegant dishware and crystal with my mom. She seemed older than she is now, which made me assume that I, too, had aged to a degree. We were discussing something that I can't remember, when I suddenly realized I was dreaming... Perhaps the dream sign was the age difference - it seemed like a relatively unprovoked awareness of dreaming. This is where it gets weird. In the middle of our conversation, I take from my lap beneath the tablecloth a dream diary that greatly resembled the one I use in the waking world, and began to write everything down. When my mother questioned me, I stated "I'm writing everything down so I'll remember it when I wake up!" More events occurred after, and I did document what I could recall, but this is really the most interesting point in my dream. Has this happened to anyone else? Notes: - I was unsure whether I had actually written anything down upon waking up. I thought I had at first, but checked my diary and found nothing. I then proceeded to scribble down what I could. - My distinction between waking-reality and dream-reality was blurred upon waking. I read a text message from my friend on my phone, and I didn't know if it was real; it turns out that it was. My response was a little funny; in it, I told my friend I wasn't sure if I was dreaming.
I've been neglecting this dream journal as of late; I'd like to add this entry from a few nights ago, as something interesting happened to me. This was towards the end of my span of sleep, and I had awakened once earlier in the morning. Returning to sleep often brings me vivid dreams, even though it isn't a typical WBTB as I don't focus on dreaming in any way as I fall asleep. Regardless, I was preparing food for a fancy party, and had been told to use a rosé wine in a dish. To be sure that it tasted good, I splashed it onto my face, Neutrogena advertisement-style. The odd thing was, I could taste it so well! It tasted refreshing, light and fruity, and its flavour was every bit as rose-pink as it looked. ...I then proceeded to add the entire bottle to a bowl of scrambled eggs, saying to myself "What a waste!". Notes: - Typically, I don't taste things in my dream. That is, I don't ingest things, so tasting generally isn't an option. Even in brief lucid periods, I don't eat or drink anything more than water. - The vividness of the wine's taste was remarkable, and it didn't taste alcoholic at all (nor have I ever had rosé wine).
It began with a visit to my family (which also happened in a dream from the night before). It seemed to be around Christmas time, and I was at my grandparents' old house. After spending some time there (it seemed to pass very quickly within the dream), I packed my bags. I noticed a lamp/chandelier in my suitcase, and my grandmother said it was a present. It was melting/oozing a sap-like substance, and I asked, "Do I have to take it with me? It's kind of messy." I'm not sure what happened after that, but I believe I got on a bus to return home. I do remember getting off of that bus in the middle of a field, but it didn't seem to be winter outside; more like Fall (strange, given that it was Christmas not long before). I bumped into a familiar character from the television show Charmed (which I was watching before bed), and she seemed scared. Eventually, we encountered a demon that preys on people by showing them their worst fears. He demanded some sort of potion, and he chased us until we reached the manor from the show. I managed to trap him in one of the rooms and used time-freezing powers to stop him temporarily (that part was cool). Only one of the sisters from the show was in the house, and she said we needed to contact the other two to make the potion, so I put my hands to my head and concentrated... And then concluded, "Wait, I don't have summoning powers". Oddly, a jeep pulled up in front of the house with the other two sisters in it... I guess I could summon in that dream after all. They came inside, and the fear demon broke out of the room. He demanded the potion, so I gave him a green liquid in a glass (something else from the day before). He drank it, said something about his powers expanding, and tried to show me my worst fears. I seemed to know something he didn't (even though I wasn't sure what it was), and as he created the illusions, I could only laugh, as I saw cats dancing on their hind legs as music played. He was defeated by his failure to kill us with our fears, and the day was saved. I spoke with the other dream characters a bit before waking up... And I noticed my speech getting slurred. This was a little strange, and I apologized for it. Shortly after this, I woke up and noticed that my mouth was very dry. I guess that explains that! A few notes: - This dream seems to have a few residues from the day before, most notably the green beverage (it was actually a Greens+ supplement in water), the characters from Charmed (as I watched it before bed), and especially the fear demon, since he was in an episode I watched. - I seemed to have more powers than usual in this dream. I sometimes take enough control in a dream to utilize powers I like, but it seemed encouraged by the setting in this dream, since it was based on a TV show involving magic. Stopping time is especially relevant to the show. Summoning is just a common occurrence for me in dreams. - I've visited my family in dreams two nights in a row, now (though in the previous dream I ended up hiding in a secluded cottage from them.) - The dry mouth/swollen in-dream tongue thing was an interesting interaction between waking-world and dream-world.
