    Lucid #244: Headphone Cornucopia

I’m in some kind of big apartment with Wife, who sends me to the other side of the place to take care of some task. I stop in a hallway with a wall mirror, noticing that hey, I have a pair of headphones on my head and music’s playing! I stand there, just appreciating the music, enjoying myself and completely slacking on my assigned task.

Eventually I start feeling guilty that I’ve been loafing around while Wife waits for me, so I take the headphones off and throw them on the floor. But somehow the music keeps playing and I still have headphones on! Okay,
this must be a dream! I take off this pair of headphones and toss them, amusing myself that fresh headphones keep appearing on my head. I do this 5 or 6 more times before finally deciding to move on. I decide that the tune was only “pretty good” so I don’t get too obsessed with bringing it back to waking life.

I walk down through a doorway and turn to my left to find myself in a large, rectangular hallways with a floor of red industrial carpet. What were my tasks? Ah right, to play a musical instrument that doesn’t exist in waking life. I walk through to the end of the hall and find myself in a large movie theater facing the screen. I turn to my left to look out over the audience. There’s a good crowd for the show, but fortunately the theater is so huge that it’s not exceedingly crowded.

I look out over the crowd, deciding that Dreamer will be seated somewhere in this theater. I point at the crowd, sweeping my finger left and saying, “There you are, Dreamer!” Yep, there she is! She’s seated in the middle of a long row further back, maybe 30 feet away. She’s blond rather than purple-haired and her hair is pulled back into a bun. She’s sitting with her feet on the chair, her knees pulled up to her chest. She grins when I point her out.

I float up, stepping lightly from the back of one chair to the other. I say, “[Dreamer], you’ve got an instrument for me!” Her grin bends into a knowing smile and she sits up in her chair, her right hand reaching across her body toward some unseen object on her left side. I keep hopping along, but I don’t quite reach her before
    the dream ends.

That was a close call for the bonus task

It is funny when you are dreaming with the wife and just turn lucid and just quit from whatever you were doing.... i have done it a few times and my "wife" was like WTH??? Lol.

Ha ha, very true! This was especially hard for me to get past when I was a new lucid dreamer. I almost blew one of my early lucid dreams because my wife wanted me to help her put away groceries when I wanted to fly off to explore the Cretaceous oceans.

Come to think of it, Ophelia and RareCola mentioned my struggle with this in one of the podcasts back in the day!

She looked quite annoyed and hurt... it was hard to just leave without helping, ha ha! Fortunately her DC has become much less resistant to my lucid unhelpfulness over time.

I once had one, where my wife was pissed off at me (in the dream) and trying to make an argument (I never get involved into arguments in waking) and like i turned lucid out of the horrible energy my wife had. I then just gave her my back and walked out the door to take off flying. She would even scream louder and demanded what the hell I was doing... and then, fly away... so fun lol.

Another perfect Dreamer summon and you were so close to the bonus task! I'm super curious what you musical experience will be.

Congrats on the lucid! I like the way that you became lucid here with the music continuing sans headphones. I have been so absent lately so we will have to catch up.

Thanks, Nyx! I'm really curious to see what the dream gives me on this one, too! It's fun to let the dreamind mind to create the basic experience and let our lucidity be what lets us explore it more thoroughly and remember it better.

Thank you, fogelbise! I've had a lot of music lately in my lucids, which has been a nice experience! It's also nice not to have to pay for all of the headphones I was going through.

For sure! I need to make sure that I haven't missed any of your recent LDs!

Lots of music in your lucids lately must be very cool! Have you found a way to promote the music showing up? I haven't posted any DJs since the big catch up dream journal a week or so ago but have a couple to post when I get the chance.

Good question! I really don't know whether there's an easy way to make music show up more frequently... perhaps just having it on the brain! One thing that made a difference for me was spending a fair amount of waking life time thinking about music and playing with music. The video game we're writing got its (we think) final cuts of music and when I was spending time getting them playing in-game, I started having more musical content in my dreams.

Oh! And the October Bonus Task of the Month is musical (to play a song on an instrument that doesn't exist IWL.) I'd bet that had an influence as well!

That is great! I want more music in all my dreams. Also great that we have an entrepreneur among us!
