    1. Flying With the...Leavanny?

      by , 08-13-2012 at 08:30 AM
Something odd happened last night. I don't know whether it counted as a 'ludic' or not, mainly because it happened the second I fell asleep. I remember tossing and turning a lot because it was a hot night, but once I settled down, this dream popped into my brain immediately.

I was standing on a cliff overlooking some sort of tropical forest, and I saw a few creatures in front of me.

I immediately recognised them as Leavanny, and I became certain that I was dreaming. Sure enough, I actually tried the poke-through-the-palm and it went straight through with no pain or sensation at all!
The Pokemon started attaching large leaves onto their forearms and jumping off the cliff, using them as wings (incidentally, this is not something that Leavanny can normally do!) I decided that I wanted to try doing this too, so I grabbed a pair of enormous leaves and held them...somehow...to my arms.

I think I jumped off the cliff, I'm not sure. In any case, I didn't get the chance to see if I could fly. The dream crashed and I sunk into a relatively dreamless and completely non-lucid sleep for the rest of the night.
    2. Adventures with Deformed Baby and Gharial Raven/The Fight Runner, Vampire Edition

      by , 08-12-2012 at 12:53 PM
Going to start using images in this journal to explain some of the odder visions that work their way into my dreams

I had a couple of extremely brief dream fragments before I woke up for the first time this morning. The first was another dream where I was a baby, the second had something to do with a football match (if anything, the latter one was scarier since I have no love for the sport at all!)

Adventures with Deformed Baby and Gharial Raven
Somewhere in middle of those two odd dream fragments, though, I had something much more vivid. I was in a maze, I'm pretty sure that it was that one from the old Windows screensaver.
I was stumbling through it randomly, just cruising on autpilot, when I came upon something in the way. It was a baby, but it was deformed. All of its features were sunken into its face and its body was just a small, puffy mass with no limbs sticking out. It reminded me a little bit of C.H.A.D. from Super Meat Boy.
Spoiler for Somewhat squicky cartoon image:

Somehow, I transitioned to the conservatory-cum-dining room at the back of my house. It was twilight on a pretty balmy evening, and the sky was a sort of black-and-copper colour - a hue which somehow seemed to transfer itself onto the rest of the environment.
I was sitting with my family, but my Mum and Dad weren't really the focus of my attention - it was the deformed baby, who was still there. I remember being absolutely convinced by this point that it was my younger sister (who in reality, is sixteen years old). I also remember having absolutely no problem with her appearance. I think I was feeding her in a highchair.
I became aware that two pigeons were resting on the wall light. They were mirroring the actions of me and my sister, in a way - sharing something and showing displays of affection.
I hate pigeons with a vengeance and chase them away whenever they're even in the back garden, so having them in the house filled me with an unspeakable rage. I got up and flapped my hands, shooing them away. They scattered, flying out of the back door and into the garden.
As I turned, I saw an large, black raven waiting for them, crouching low with a strange, long beak that looked like a pair of pliers. It snapped at the pigeons, and then its beak grew into a pair of gharial jaws.
Lastly and most inexplicably, a strange, bark-like substance encircled the wounded pigeons and the gharial-raven so that it they were all tied up together in one great big cylinder of wood.
The dream crashed there, and I'm not sure whether I woke up immediately or not. All that I know for certain is that I wrote down the previous dreams on my pad at about 6am and then went back to bed, where I had the following dream...

      The Fight Runner, Vampire Edition
I became aware that I was in a crowd of people. A lot of them were anime characters. I would guess that that initial scene probably came from this:
(Pretty sure they weren't all Naruto characcters, though.)

I became aware that we were all fighting each other, and so I ended up joining in, throwing punches everywhere. I can still feel a tingle in the back of my knuckles remembering that, the sensation of punching was probably the most vivid part of the entire dream.
At length, the fight progressed through a variety of different terrain. At first we were fighting on the Team Fortress 2 map, Upward.
Then we progressed to a gloomy hallway, with a strong theme of red and black. People were runnning continuously along it, hurling projectiles back and forth occasionally. After a travelling in this manner, letting out a few more punches for good measure in the process, I came upon a hallway. There was a woman lying there, gasping for breath and surrounded by some of the other fighters who were tending to her. There was a pink, glowing symbol on her neck that looked like a set of fangs.
For some reason, though, I knew better and I was convinced that this woman was up to no good. So I punched her in the face, too, and continued whizzing along.
Suddenly, I was in a section of the hall that formed a T-junction. Nobody else was seened to be here and it was deathly quiet. I was convinced, though, that I was about to be attacked. Perhaps I even willed it to happen, on some level. I flattened my back agains the wall and looked ahead, left and right at regular intervals, trying to make sure that there was no way that I could be taken by surprise.
Then I looked up. I caught a short glimpse of this:
      Spoiler for Large image:

And then time stood still. The dream crashed there, and I woke up. The thing is, I wasn't particularly frightened by it, more thrilled that I had experienced something that exciting.

    3. Carracosta rides a Food-Laser into my childhood

      by , 08-11-2012 at 07:36 AM
I only remembered snippets of my dreams last night. I get the impression that there was a bit more happening while I dreamt but, perhaps that didn't pass into my conscious mind

First, I just remember there being a large pokemon (Carracosta), standing on the common near my house. In itself, this isn't particularly surprising, since Carracosta is one of the pokemon I'm using in my current game.
Only it was massive, way bigger than that thing is normally supposed to be. It would have dwarfed the biggest oak tree nearby, if I had been imagining it (I think there was just the idea of the common, none of the fine details of it.)

Viewing in the third person, as if a spectator, I remember a large book being held up against the enormous creature. It was bound in navy-blue. I'm not sure whether it was me holding it up, and I was having an out-of-body-experience, whether it was someone else or even if the book was just floating there of its own accord.

Then, what I can only describe as a gigantic, food-based laser (actually kind of looked like brown vomit ) came out of the book and went through Carracosta. If the Pokemon reacted to this strange attack, I don't remember it. I assume the dream 'crashed' after that.

Later, I remember being a child version of myself, playing with a toy train set. I get the impression that the there was something good inside the carriages but I have no idea now what it was, or even whether I did know back then. I remember my mum sitting nearby with another woman, presumably a friend of hers. They were discussing dreams - I think some of the dialogue might have been borrowed from the IRC chat last night. My mum was saying over and over that dreams were important, but that you should alwayshave a methods to escape from them.

Man, this dream stuff is just chock-full of 'if's and 'whether's!
