I had this crazy idea last night while lying in bed, thinking of things to do in a lucid dream. Now, I'm very skeptic about everything but I also try not to shrug anything off as impossible. I only half believe in this theory I have but I figure it would be interesting to try it out anyways and I would like to see if anyone else has ever thought or tried this before.

As anyone's probably noticed already, our dreams sometimes take place in familiar surroundings and at other times in very unfamiliar ones. Both sets are however often filled with unfamiliar faces. These strangers look just as realistic as anyone else. The same thing goes for unfamiliar locations, they are often just as realistic as any real place you might go back to in your dreams. What's more, at least in my case, is that many of these unknown locations and people are revisited many times. I know the most likely explanation is that the human brain sees no difference in recreating places and people than it has creating new ones from scratch but what if, just what if, in our dream state we either participate in someone else's dream or someone else participates in ours.

Here is where my crazy idea comes in ; What if after becoming lucid, we were to go up to one of these strangers and try to get them to LD up? Like "Hey you, this is a dream". What would happen beyond this is pure speculation. Of course if they are a figment of the imagination, our subconscious could very well make them react in any number of real ways. One way to verify the authenticity of the being in front of us would be to ask them their name and phone number, email or even reffering them to this site. The problem with the latter is that a non LD regular would most likely not be able to retain much clear information in the transition from the dream to the real world, let alone recall the dream. This also brings us to another possibility, that the person (most likely not a regular LDer) would dissapear in front of us as a result of him/her waking up. Wheter this could then be attributed to our subconscious mind thinking this would happen or the person actually waking up because he/she realised he/she was dreaming is a question difficult to answer.

In any case, this is something I will try in my next lucid dream. I don't really expect anything of it but it will be interesting to see what my subconscious comes up with when I do and perhaps will I even come in contact with a real person (if not, that would be one freaky phone call though "hello, are you the person I met in this dream we had" )
