If you are looking for some supernatural explanation for shared dreaming, I doubt you will find it. If you are really looking for shared dreams, you need to look within the bounds of reality. Look for ways you can share dreams. Look for two people who share in waking life, and they will often share in dream life also.
You can not discount a fantastic experience just because it has a practical explanation.
Lets look to metaphors for a minute:
I recently wrote an article on sea monsters. Here is the skinny of it. Sea monsters are real. There are monsters in the sea. There are all kinds of horrifying murderous creatures living in the sea. Just because we have names for them - shark - giant squid - sperm whale - pelican eel, does not mean they cease being monsters.
Sea monsters are real. The vikings believed in the Kraken. The kraken was a giant ocopus. Giant octopus are real. The kraken was also a phenomenon that happened in the sea. When volcanic activity occurred in the open ocean, fish would flee the area, and make for awesome fishing. Put the two together, and you have a human reality made of facts, experiences, and beliefs. You have the kraken.
When people believe something, and they believe it for a reason, it is real.
